Honestly not trying to be a debbie downer, but 12 weeks is way too early to tell unless you had a CVS or some other DNA testing done. At this point it is still 50/50 chance it's a boy.
hmmmmm i wonder its still a little to early from what I've been told
try to ask your Dr again for another U/S in a month to just make sure.
No, she absolutely should not ask her doctor for another ultrasound just to see if her baby has a penis or a vagina. That's not what ultrasounds are for.

TTC since March 2013. BFP 4/13/13, blighted ovum discovered 6/6/13, m/c 6/8/13.
All babies have a visible "nub" at this point. They look about the same, but nubs that turn into boy parts point up (angle greater than 30 degrees), girl nubs (clitoris) point down. 99% accurate by 12 weeks, but your tech has to be up on the latest research and know what they're looking for. I can post the paper from the computer but I'm on mobile now.

Jeez people freak out over nothing. I'm sure she'll get another ultrasound at 20 weeks but way to ruin her happy moment.
Nobody freaked out. Also, anybody who has been reading posts on here would know that a sex reveal post isn't going to get "SQUEEEEEEEEE OMG!". Especially not at 12 weeks.
I'm not a first time mom...I have a son and a daughter We also received results from a blood test today. My u/s tech has also been doing this for 17 years so I trust her.
I'm sorry if you've yet to find out but don't rain on our parade

I will say I appreciate you moms who can enjoy my excitement. I have one of each so I could care less... All I want is a healthy baby! I am practical and even with blood test results I am not decorating until 20 weeks. I've had a few miscarriages so I'm cautious. I've had 4 ultrasounds at this point and I have tons of pics. Today's session we were surprised when the tech said do you wanna know what your having? I thought it'd be next month. I didn't post all of the pics because I didn't post because I had something to prove. Simply thought that was a great picture
I recently saw that they have new technology that can determine gender at 12-13 weeks so that wouldn't surprise me. Technology has developed so quickly over the last decade so I don't doubt that they've been able to. I do know that a lot of tests and ultrasounds have been wrong about not only gender, but multiples, diseases, etc so I take all of it with a sense of reality.
I'm sure you will get more definite results at 20 weeks but good for you! That's exciting and I wish you the best!

Boomshakalaka! Im excited for you girl! I have two boys too! (:
I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks 6 days and while we were looking at my baby I jokingly asked my doc "So you're going to tell me if it's a boy or girl right??" He laughed and found the genitals on the screen and said, "Well if you can tell what this is then you are a better doctor than me!" He said we will check again at my next appointment, which will make me 16 weeks. This was a regular ultrasound machine, not 3d. Exciting, but I might wait a little while to buy baby gear! Congrats on a cute ultrasound though!!

It's not about the strength of the machine, it's the fact that genitalia is just forming into a penis or vagina and clitoris. At 12 weeks they pretty much look the same.
I dont know, there are studies showing sex can be determined with a high level of accuracy at 12 weeks by measuring the angle of the genital tubercle. But I would still secodn guess how good the tech was or how good the machine's measurements were. So while I do think science says it is possible to tell the sex at 12 weeks from ultrasound, I wouldn't paint the nursery yet either.

Congrats, if you received results from a blood test that showed the chromosomes and it was a boy then you have a boy, don't even need an US for that.
All of PPs information is really good to have. I had no idea that boys and girls look similar at this point and that the angle can make a difference. Thanks for the edumacation guys!
