It's really going to depend in the weight of your baby. If I recall correctly, newborn goes up to 9lbs. And 0-3 is 9-12lbs. I could be way off, it's been 4 years since I've had a newborn. My first DD was 9lbs at birth, she skipped right over newborn sizes. My second DD was 6.5lbs, she wore newborn clothes home.
I ordered this last week when we found out she's a girl. It was supposed to be her coming home outfit but a new baby store just opened down the street from me and wow do they have some beautiful clothes.

That outfit is adorable, but ridiculouly expensive. @-)

I know - It will be my one and only intentional splurge (it has to be or DH will lose it).
But to add to Crazy's first world problems post, this outfit does not come with the matching hat. Why meeeeeeeee!!!!!?????
You don't. Or at least I didn't. I thought I was playing it safe by bringing NB and 0-3 month for DD. I had to send my mom and sister to buy some preemie sized clothes when she ended up being only 5 lbs and was floating in the other things! I suspect if I had an ultrasound later in the pregnancy I may have had a better indication. But then I would have worried about why she was so small!
My MIL made these booties/hat for another granddaughter but that SIL didn't want them I think. So im gonna partner the carter dress with these handmade cuties! (sry for the bad quality of picture.. my lighting sucked I guess!) She also made a sweater for that set but I might just skip that piece for coming home.
Nothing yet. I found something cute on etsy, but we need to name the baby before I can order it and that has been a struggle. I will eventually get something, name or not.
We'll pick something new for DD2. DD1 wore a little purple and grey striped onesie with purple pants. Haven't found that "perfect" set yet for #2. I'm sure I'll find something by April when we start getting closer.
This is the outfit we picked for LO. Depends on the weather if we'll use the cardigan or not. I bought 3 month size as first DD was almost nine pounds!
I would also like to wish some of you good luck on getting a floppy newborn into a car seat wearing those elaborate numbers.
Ha. I say this everytime someone posts a ridiculous dress or some shit to bring their 2-3 day old home in. Honestly. First you have to dress the kid in it (hard enough) especially those Carters onsie dresses they are such a pain, then you have to strap him or her into a five point haness which will squish said dress up around the belly and croch. Then drive home and probably remove it for a diaper change. So useless.
Honestly, get something else. These dresses are the biggest pain to get on a kid. I have no clue why. The first time we tried one was around 3 weeks and it was so so difficult. I could not imagine trying to put it on a new-newborn.
For his coming home outfit, I got these baseball themed overalls on sale on Zulily, along with this cap and sock set- which may go well with the onesie above.
Both in 0-3 as our first DS was born close to 9lb and never fit in Newborn clothes. We tried some on him for fun and it was like 'fat man in a little coat', Chris Farley style.

There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children.

For reals. Pick an adorable sleeper or onesie with pants.
Though I can understand where you ladies are coming from when it comes to dresses...makes sense and all and I do see how some dresses could be annoying.. but I do have personal experience with carter dresses also and I dont find them that difficult.
The crotch unbuttons, which makes changing the diaper the same as changing a diaper from a regular onsie. The material is so thin that folding/crunching it up into the carseat is no problem at all. Sliding her into the onsie(which it pretty much is a onsie, with just an extra piece of material connected to the middle to make it a dress) feet first is also not a problem, ive dressed newborns this way before with no issue. Of course I also see where a side buttoned sleeper or feeties would be easier but its just a personal preference I guess. For me its just a keepsake item that will be eventually put in a big shadowbox on a wall, most her clothes are normal onsies and sleepers. Plus it cost me almost nothing to buy on black friday ^.^
I was thinking this. I don't know if that is too little clothes though? Mid May in FL?
Definitely not too little. We brought dd home in an outfit like that. We lived in SC at the time and it was like 86 degrees out. Plus it's super easy to put on and take off!
We brought my son home in an embroidered romper. He was only in it a few hours but we are sentimental people and it was worth it. It's also not that hard to buckle them in when wearing nice outfits.
I think we're gonna keep it simple with a few sleep suits in different sizes. She already has a bigger wardrobe than me, but were only 10 mins away from the hospital and aren't expecting a welcome committee. We can always put her in something more fancy when we get visitors.

I like to get each kid a special coming home outfit because I know I take a lot of pictures on that day. We've been going through a lot of old family photos over the past few years and I've watched my family members have a difficult time remembering which infant is in the photo. I figure if I get each baby a special outfit for that day it'll help me tell them apart when my memory gets even crappier than it already is.
My MIL gave me my DH's outfit he wore home from the hospital, but it's 3-6 months. LOL he was a really big baby apparently. I also have my FIL's baby hat he wore home. I purchased a blue Petit Ami gown for my LO to come home in. If he's really big, I'll go with the 3-6 month outfit though. My DH thinks it's ridiculous I bought a gown.. he thinks it's a dress. I don't care. I love it!
Just picked this up at Target today. Love the little half sleeve w/ the cuff and button ... Though, when I got it home, I realized how big the "newborn" sized onesie was. Cherokee seems to run big. I may have to have a back-up just in case LO ends up swimming in it.

I fell inlove with this dress from carters, I got matching leggings for it since I dont want her legs to be cold.
