If by riding on coat tails you mean raising 4 babies on my own and working to afford that tuition than yeah, I deserve his degree as much as he does. It does define my life- every day a struggle, barely seeing my husband, and taking cAre of everything on my own. I'm not a single mom, their struggles are great but it darn well feels like it. No one to help with the babies, I take care of his mother....he makes sacrifices but so do I, and so does anyone who is married to a man in this field...or the military, etc. The sn is my state of mind, and my state of being. You have to be one strong woman to stick by a pre-med, physician, military man, or any other career choice that requires that level of dedication.
First of all, this is an insult to anyone who struggled through med school and residency, or any graduate school for that matter. And an insult to your husband too. Secondly, you sound like you think you deserve a medal for raising your kids. Well, you are not unique, your plight is the same as any woman on this board with working husbands. We all struggle and make sacrifices. And hey, guess what, im #marriedtoarealdoctor and I made it through without it being my entire identity. Im sorry that your husband's #futureifhepasses career is your life, perhaps you should get a hobby.

Who the fuck are you? Kanye West?#CVstyleLOLZ that your premed husband is equivalent to someone fighting for our country. L-O-FUCKING-L.
quoting you because i want to call you out hard core on this.
Whoa...let's all just calm down. @married2premed obviously worked hard earning her husband's degree, putting herself in the line of fire every. single. day.
Not a big deal this late in the thread but I wanted to clarify that my UO mentioned colored ICICLE lights, not just colored lights in general! Love me some colored lights, that's what's on my tree right now!

FWIW, no I don't think I know more than anyone because of hubby's major. I barely speak to him some days. The crib issue is relevant because I'm super paranoid of PPD, which I had with all prior 3 babies. It requires meds that do make bed sharing safe. My baby sleeps through the night, and has since about 3 weeks, but in my bed. I tried (unsuccessfully) to get her to use the crib. Also tried on my others once a I was advised for meds...but they wouldn't either so I skipped the meds back then since they hated cribs. I can't skip the meds if it happens this time.
Doesn't matter if anyone thinks he will get in to med school or not, he is in a 3 plus 4 program, so unless his GPA dropped he is guaranteed admission. We would prefer a different school, just because the tuition to his matched school is about twice the cost of other colleges in the state.
I do get stressed (who doesn't) but I am proud of my hubby. He is a first generation college student, and his family in the projects laughs at his pursuits all the time. We have no emotional support. So, it's not the first time I've heard he wouldn't make it/couldn't cut it. Regardless, if you get your baby to sleep in a crib, great. I can't seem to get it right, and tried everything. Perhaps one hour stretches in a crib is normal and I'm not doing it wrong. But if I put her in the bed with me, we go from 10pm to 7am, only waking once for a diaper change and a 10 minute nursing session.
Carry on
Jumping on the I hate stuffed animals bandwagon. They are just clutter and I hate that! If they talk, sing, etc something interesting that LO would like then fine. But the ordinary stuffed animal...boring!
Oh, and the military reference was regarding being away from your family, not putting your life on the line, ha! I know firsthand how military life can pull you away from family, sometimes forever. I have complete respect for our military
Wicked late, IDC. I know some stuff is going on with this thread while I interject. I didn't know about the Phil Robertson interview until today and if I were a Duck Dynasty fan, I no longer would be. Just like the band the lostprophets. I will now skip every and all songs that Pandora chooses to play for me because of what the lead singer, Ian Watkins, has committed (has no one heard this??) There's a UO in there, somewhere.
My ex-boyfriend who rode (pre-FFFC, i just wrote "rode" with a w) gave me a Thor (label) sweatshirt..does that make me a motorx athlete? please say yes...
I don't care if my son wants to play with dolls, barbies, princesses or if he even wants one. I will buy him what he likes.
I love Disney and my fav princess is Ariel, with Jasmine as a close second.
I've never watched Duck Dynasty and never will, and this Phil guy sounds like a twat.
My son sleeps in our bed, has never even looked at his crib and slept in his pnp for 2hrs before I missed him and brought him back to bed with us. And he sleeps through the night and has never had cereal.
I'm a Christmas light snob and grade people's houses as we drive by. As long as the lights look nice and the lines are straight, I don't care what color they are.
I'm probably missing something, so here's what my name would look like if I road the DH's coat tails.
@married2premed
PPD- post partum depression?? WTH does that have to do with crib sleeping??? Am I missing something?
And what about meds? I'm confused.
Babies do sleep better close to their mom-you're warm and they know your smell.
For those who advocate bed sharing, there are safer sleep practices. Being on anti anxiety and meds for depression is not considered safe to use while sleeping with your baby, so using a crib would be better.
@Married2PreMed then you should maybe reread your novel you wrote because you said your meds make bed sharing safe. I know this because I had to read it 4 times to make sure. #youshouldjustgiveupnow
None of my 4 babies have ever slept in a crib for more than 20 minutes. I personally don't know any mamas who have successfully used a crib for their babies. Even with tricks like the heating pad or a blankie that smells like mama......I think with rare exception, if you tell me your baby sleeps in a crib, I feel you must be practicing some form of CIO. How can your baby not be screaming their head off? Even if you go In there and comfort them every 5 minutes, they have to be screaming their little heads off. Or does everyone have magical babies who love cribs? Flame away, but I really don't believe your babies are sleeping in their cribs quietly and peacefully. Just admit you CIO, seriously! And RNP does not count as a crib. Flame away, or share your secrets....cause I'm just not buying it.
My baby has slept in his crib since 6 weeks. We don't CIO, I give him a bottle, he falls asleep, we transfer him into the crib and he sleeps. In fact, he sleeps 100x better in a crib in his own room then he ever did in our room in the RnP. If he stirs, I watch him on the moniter and go in and soothe if he cries. Most of the time, he just shifts around and falls right back to sleep. Obviously ever baby is different, and we are lucky it works for us.
WTF is going on with this thread???? I don't even understand why married to pre-med came out swinging and I really don't understand her backpedel post.
Screw the crib, no matter where I let my kid cry he still doesn't sleep

Andplusalso, I have a law degree. My husband was with me when was in law school. That sure as hell doesnt make him an attorney. Amiright @sleepy33?
My UO- I love stuffed animals. DS loves each of his (he has like 8 or 9) and he gives them all the sweetest hugs and is so cute when he plays with them, and sleeps with them all in his bed. I think it's preshy.

Yeah, I haven't brought up the lostprophets thing because it is horrifying and disgusting and makes me want to kill the sick bastard. And now I'm thinking about the charges and sick and horrified again and all kinds of angry.
Oh, and the military reference was regarding being away from your family, not putting your life on the line, ha! I know firsthand how military life can pull you away from family, sometimes forever. I have complete respect for our military
@married2premed Yeah. No. I would recant this statement before the milspouses get a hold of it. Until your children spend Christmas, birthdays, and any other milestone with their father via bad Skype connections at best, please do not compare being a student as being a member of the armed forces, I really hate the "my family has it worse" game, but that statement is just unfair to military children and spouses and invalidates the struggles they/we go through.
Amen! Having my husband deployed for 11 months sucked ass! I did EVERYTHING including having a baby by myself, moving because our landlord decided to sell, I had to buy a new car because two weeks before he left and while I was 8 months pregnant I totaled mine. My husband missed the birth of his daughter, both my older girls bdays, our 10th anniversary, thanksgiving, Christmas and valentines day and everything else in between. So your hard life with a husband as a student is nothing compared to what a spouse of a deployed service member deal with.

Well, I met my husband after I graduated and was working two jobs, one at a law firm and one as a cocktail waitress. I would say that makes him an honorary cocktail waitress, but I do not want to see him in tights and 2 inch heels.
My UO - I cannot stand seeing people on Facebook who give their kids (or their ELF gives their kids) a present every freaking day in December. Seriously? Even if you do have the money to buy 25 extra gifts along with Christmas presents, what is that teaching your kid? I did not know this was a "thing" until my news feed was flooded with pictures this month. Kids don't need that much stuff!!!
Side-note: I DO like when people do a different activity with their child every day in December, like watch a Christmas movie or help mom bake cookies. Spending time with your kids > spending money on them.
We got things like coloring books and crayons, craft kits, books, etc. for 12 days leading up to Christmas. My dad bought a bunch of little things at the dollar store, wrapped everything and put numbers on them. Then each day, we each got to draw a number from a hat, and got the corresponding gift. It gave us a little activity to keep us busy, and it was fun and exciting. He enjoyed giving presents, and this was a way to spread that out a little bit further than one big day. I think if it's done right, it doesn't "teach" anything bad. It's just a fun family tradition. Now, if they're gifts that cost more than a couple dollars each, then I agree, that's excessive.
And the years that we did this, we didn't get a ton of gifts on Christmas day. We got one or two toys, some clothes, etc.
No no, I'm talking people are giving their kids actual gifts - I have seen whole outfits, video games, Lego sets...every day of the month!
I teach 3rd grade and last year I had a kid who got new American Girl clothes every day from her Elf. This was also the same girl who asked me on the last day of school "what did you buy for us?"

Haha, that would be lyrical, but it was actually a casino. But in the interest of poetic license, yes.
