My UO: I think solids poop is much easier to clean up than breast milk or formula poop. That shit goes everywhere! At least solids poop stays mostly in one area...
wanna come clean up our poop? I think S has crazier poops now that she's eating!
I think people take their sports way too seriously. I live in CO and while I think the Broncos are a great team (even though I'm a Seahawks fan all they way), it's ridiculous how 3 losses over the entire season is oh so devastating and everyone is getting on Manning's case, etc etc. Get over it people, it's a GAME!
Yup. In Boston, Tom Brady's injury a few years ago was a devastating tragedy. The media covered it as if a major political figure had been assassinated. Last night, the local news showed a clip of him talking about Christmas shopping. Yeah.
Give me college sports any day!
It's ridiculous. They spent an entire week talking about Manning's ankle sprain. They talk about what day of the week he actually practices. I DON'T CARE!!!

I find that hard to believe! Your LO is so tiny and adorable how could she possibly make a mess. Seriously, though, I picture her to be so little and cute I just want to pick her up and squeeze her. Is that weird?
I'm pretty sure she thinks she has to make up for her small stature with gigantic messes haha. and nope, not weird at all, I do that to her all the time! I really want to take a picture of her next to other babies her age just as a comparison sometimes...
I was recently at Walmart (I don't go there very often) and saw what I now realize was a display of Duck Dynasty crap. At the time, I thought, "what in the hell is that!?" I've still never seen the show and I don't even know what this guy said or who he said it to. But I gather he said some offensive anti-gay remarks and for that I think he absolutely should have been fired. I could get fired for making similar remarks at work, why shouldn't he be?
I don't like The Grinch-the story or the character.
Whoa...whaaa?! I can see the character maybe...but the story? It's about people who have all of their material things taken away and are still happy and celebrating together. You just broke my little grinchy heart.
I didn't know about any of this Duck Dynasty stuff until this UO but I agree with A&E firing him and I am pleasantly surprised that they did. It surprises me that they didn't pull the "free speech" card.
While he is entitled to his beliefs, I don't think it's ever OK to say disrespectful things about homosexuals. By firing him, A&E is saying "this is not OK." Go A&E!
I know freedom of speech is a right that we have and should be proud to have, but sometimes people need to stand up and say "this is wrong."
Freedom of speech is the reason the Westboro Baptist Church gets away with all their bullshit and it pisses me off.
I guess what irks me about the situation is that people can bash Christians all they want and no one comes down on them. A&E has the right to do what they think is best for their network but I still think its bogus.

Agreed. People don't get fired for making anti-God statements. I realize he said more than scripture. I wouldn't have said what he said in the way he did. But my feelings have not changed.
My thoughts on the Duck Dynasty situation is that if the network had such problems with the comment they should have edited it out and had discussions about it not being OK to say instead of airing it and then getting backlash. I don't think his comments were appropriate but getting fired may be too much.
I think Kanye West should have been fired from his label and every other endorsement for saying his job is like that of a military person or police officer. Biggest.Douche.Ever. Get.Over.Yourself.

Oh, this was aired on the channel? I thought it was just comments in a GQ interview. I guess I really don't know anything about it at all so I probably shouldn't be commenting.

So I should get fired for saying I don't believe God is real? Wow

Is that what I said? Um no. People don't get fired for anti God statements. So they shouldn't get fired for stating the opposite beliefs either.
He didn't get fired for saying God is real or making pro-God statements. He got fired for spouting a load of bullshit that massively offended a bunch of people.
Edited to add words
God is a belief. I can not believe in God. But homosexuality is real, and bashing it is disgusting.
A lot of people, like myself, would say God is real. And yes, bashing homosexuals is wrong. But he's still entitled to his opinon and freedom of speech. I'm not big on debates but I dont think he should have been fired.
I think this is one of those moments when we have to agree to disagree. The Bible says that homosexuality is wrong. If you don't believe what the Bible teaches, you're not going to agree with what it says.

------ I'm not being snarky - but go back and re-read someone's comments above in response to 2010Bride's original UO. His freedom of speech should extend to his civil rights. Not to his employment rights. As such, he has not been fined or arrested; he has been fired.

Here's what I don't get though... He didn't bash gay people, he said it's biblically wrong and sinful. If you don't believe in God anyway, then why does it matter if his personal belief is that homosexuality is a sin ? The Bible doesn't say we should hate gay people, it says it's a sin.
To me, putting it in the same category as bestiality is bashing it.
I can definitely see why that would anger people. I think the point he was making is that according to the Bible all sins are bad and sinning in one way leads to sinning in other ways.

You BELIEVE God is real. I can show you two men or two women. You can't show me God.
Just like he BELIEVES homosexuality is wrong. And that's his right.

I really hate reality TV and it's "stars."
Yes I understand and it's a good point. I just don't think he should have been fired either.
I don't think this has been mentioned yet...but if you are a public figure, you have a responsibility to use that power wisely. If he wants ti believe homosexuality is a sin, that is perfectly reasonable conversation for his bible study group or around his family dinner table. It is not okay to marginalize or put down an entire group of people in an interview for widely read publication.
Of course I agree with the whole freedom of speech doesn't excuse one from consequences, but I'm also wondering. . .I have always thought of it as a great right that allows people the safe means of rising up AGAINST various types of oppression, not a means to perpetuate it.
Sorry but your faith doesn't disappear because you have an audience. I read the entire interview and if others did as well they would see the portion where he says they don't judge anyone, they love them, tell them about Jesus and let The Lord sort them out. That didn't make the cut in most liberal media reports though.
ETA: again I'll say that A&E has the right to do what they want as a network. I don't have to agree with it though. Clearly this is an UO which is why pnutg posted it.
Weeeeellll. I was going to stay out of this but I will say this:
If I said those statements, in the course of my job, I would probably be fired too. At the very very least I would get 'time on the beach'. It is against EEO laws to make statements like those in the course of your job. His job is reality television and the GQ article was in the course of his job being a reality celebrity.
If they did not fire him they would be subject to EEO suits by any homosexual that worked at A&E. You cannot condone statements like that in a workplace.

What about discrimination based on religious beliefs?
Title seven protects against religious discrimination in the work place, that's why I brought it up.
I'm going to make a final point because we could argue this forever: if someone at A&E said that they thought Christians were bigots and/or hateful I would be absolutely stunned if their job came under fire.
Again... He wasn't fired for his religious beliefs. He was fired for voicing them publicly, and offending people. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If those opinions can be offensive to other people, then one shouldn't voice them in the "workplace," which, as @oohgurl points out, in this case, is an interview and/or on the show itself. He should have had enough common sense to know that lumping homosexuals in with people who practice beastiality would offend people.
The media is so liberal in *most* cases that I dont care to watch much news anymore. So many things are twisted and edited and left out. It infuriates me how they attack some people and not others.

Exactly. Freedom of religion means you are free to believe what you want, not necessarily voice it. If I voiced religious stuff in my job as a teacher, I'd be fired. And I should. It is not my job to spout my beliefs to children. My issue is that it's basically bigoted hate speech disguised as "religious beliefs." Comparing someone's love to screwing livestock. That's pretty fucked up, even if the Bible says so. As well, as PP said, he said a lot more than just his Bible scripture.

I was going to say the same thing!!!! But I really feel like teachers are held to a much higher standard than a lot of other professions.
If one more idiot puts up "save Phil Robertson" post on Facebook I'm just going to start unfriending everyone. Your rights for free speech and freedom of religion are from the government. He didn't go to jail, lose property or be fined. No where in the constitution does it say that you can paraphrase a bible verse into a hate speech for GQ magazine and get to keep your reality tv show. Also, in Corinthians it says that a father is allowed to have sex with his daughter as long as she isn't a child, a wife is property of her husband BUT it does say that only God has the right to pass judgement on others (thank you catholic school). Maybe he should of read more of that passage.
IMO he has used the "it's in the bible and part of my religion" excuse to defend his "opinion".
Maybe this is why I'm not part of any sort of religion and think it's all bogus. (I am aloud to have this opinion yes?? maybe I will get banished for it). People seem to use religion as a tool to get their way when the masses don't agree with them.
It is one thing to say "yeah well I just don't agree with the homosexual way of life" and leave it at that. No he had to elaborate on that and it was very offensive to a very large group of people. Then he had to quote the bible to defend his stupid offensive opinion.
It is also funny how people are so upset that he lost his job and think he did nothing wrong because, after all, free speech. But it is not ok for an entire TV network to stand up for the gay community by not tolerating this stupid shit.
And also I'm pretty sure I would be fired from my job if I made such comments at work.....because it is just wrong.

Please point me to the verse regarding incest in Corinthians. Also, I know that in Corinthians it says that the body of the wife belongs to the husband and the body of the husband belongs to the wife.
Also, as I mentioned in a prior comment, Phil Robertson's interview stated that he doesn't judge anyone because that is The Lord's job. That wasn't highlighted by the media however.

Not to start a debate but I was curious on the Corinthians thing as well.

If he said that he hated gay people or used derogatory words regarding gay people that would be a totally different story.
I know A&E can do what they want but the hypocrisy of the whole situation is laughable.
I think it's pretty safe to say A&E knows he's a bible believing christian. And they hired him. Then fired him for quoting scripture.
End of story.
