Deep breath.... T&Ps until I get some answers ***UPDATE***

Update.....

So apparently she is measuring in the 91st percentile but they aren't worried at this point. She said I will have another US later to see how she's progressing and if it will impact delivery. Thanks for all of your thoughts and help through the day. It really helped! Now I'm going to try to turn off all of the "why is she so big?" questions and relax.

------------------------------------------------

I've called both doctors offices handling my care and the one that did part two of my SS and A/S said my official A/S results have not come back and the other has not called back yet.

Here's the issue... I looked on my patient portal today since I haven't heard anything and it says:

Ordered Date: 12/11/13 (date of A/S FYI)
Uterine size date discrepancy, antepartum condition or complication

SEQUENTIAL 2
Result: Negative for Down syndrome, trisomy 18 and open spinal defects

Yay for negative sequential 2 results! But, my concern is the first part and everything leading up to "complication". I can only assume this is from the OB the day of and not the person preparing the official report. But what does it mean? The nurse at her office is obviously busy because she just told the receptionist to tell me the report isn't ready. Now I'm just waiting to hear from my regular OB who handles everything else pregnancy related.

I'm not freaking out, but my husband and family will so I'm just posting here to get this out there for me, because I have to tell someone and to see if anyone has seen this on a report. And I also want to add that I didn't have the greatest A/S experience...super fast with a mute tech (no this is the heart, femur, its a girl, etc... Just silence), even though the doc said on her quick glance things appeared ok. Thanks ladies. Y'all are always so helpful and supportive!

  • I also wouldn't worry too much. I'm glad that the sequential screen is negative. The first part doesn't read like results, but more like medical coding. It may just be a mistake or what they used to code for your A/S. Usually this coding is for when the uterus measures larger or smaller in correlation to how many weeks you are. If there was a problem with your A/S, your Dr's office would have called you by now to discuss it. I hope you get a call back soon to reassure you.

  • Typically they would call if there was an issue though right? I don't think they would post something serious without a warning...

Also, medical lingo ALWAYS sounds terrible--- even if its good!!!

    thinking of you!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it right now. If the dr didn't think to bring it up when you called it must not be a pressing matter. It sounds to me (disclaimer I'm not a dr or in the medical profession at all) that your ute is measuring either bigger or smaller than its currently "supposed" to and that could potentially cause a problem.    just wait until they are able to get back to you and then ask them about it

    This, ((hugs)).

  • Hugs! They shouldn't post stuff if they haven't called you - super annoying. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about - keep us updated.
  • No experience with that here, but I'm sorry they left you kinda hanging like that - and I agree with Rogue, that information shouldn't be posted where you can see it without someone talking to you about it first. Medical jargon is always scary to we lay people. If your doctors weren't concerned enough to contact you directly, then I would stick with "no news is good news".

  • Thanks everyone. I'm frustrated that this is available to me without any explanation too. I keep reminding myself that the doctor said things look good and that the diagnosis or whatever that is had to come from her if the official report isn't back. So I'm assuming she would have said something. It's just frustrating.

My regular OB's nurse called and said they would try to get more info for me from the other doctor. Waiting blows.

Ok I dont do sonography, but I am a radiographer so I know how requests are made.

When you go to a scan you have to have a reason for going, as in the Dr/OB/MW has to make a request so the sonographer knows what the scan is for. Drs are lazy and dont phrase these as questions, just a sentence.

The above sentence sounds like a request to check if there is "Uterine size date discrepancy, antepartum condition or complication "  basically if you put a question mark on the end of the sentence it makes more sense ie: Uterine size date discrepancy, antepartum condition or complication?  that the sonographer will now check for any of these abnormalities, and this is what the Radiologist will report on.

If this is all that is written there, it means your results are not back yet.

    I hope this helps!

  • This is "scary medical lingo" as you guys call it above. This post and explanation is written in a personal capacity and not as a medical professional and in no way should serve as a replacement for a doctors advice or guidance.

diagnostic and billing codes are preset and used the same across the country so that the same data is easily understandable/interpretable at whatever hospital or clinic your records end up at. This particular diagnostic code is: 649.63 - Uterine size date discrepancy, antepartum condition or complication

Pretty much, this means that the doctor's office used this as the reasoning for the testing to be covered or billed visit. Some codes can cover multiple conditions or reasons for being seen. in this case it means it could be one of the 2 things listed. you aren't antepartum so the antepartum condition or complication doesn't qualify. So they are billing the test due to uterine size discrepancy.

Uterine size can vary highly until you get later into 3rd trimester of pregnancy and isn't something to worry about unless your doctor tells you to be.

  • I called first thing, before I posted this and that was the most stressful part...that the offices don't have a report but there are "results". But it does sound like a medical code. That makes sense! My regular OB called and I missed the call. Crap!!

  • It's hard to know what's going on from a medical code that's not meant for public consumption, you know?  Sounds like it could be something as simple as your dates are off, which is probably no big deal.

  • @playingonadream - Antepartum is prebirth, postpartum is afterbirth. Ante- means before - like ante meridiem is AM, before noon. And partum means birth. Pregnancy is antepartum. OP - This sounds like a medical code that means there is any kind of medical reason at all for scan so insurance covers it. It's hard to know for sure without seeing it, but it sounds like it's the coded order for the a/s, that's all, and the results will show up underneath when they're written up. Just call your OB's office to check if you're nervous. The office staff would know their codes and should be able to explain!
you're right, stupid mistake. sorry. I don't work in maternity or with patients anymore and clearly I'm tired today. the billing code is broken out into multiple sections 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or general ante or post. I guess I need to go on holiday early as my brain clearly has already gone without me.
