Thoughts on Some Girl Names?

We are team green (FTM) and desperately trying to get our brains wrapped around the process of naming a human! :-)

What do you think of the name Amelie? For a girl, in case some of you haven't heard the name or seem the movie. I pronounce it Ah-muh-lee, like Emily but with an "aw" up front. I am wondering about it primarily because Amelia is so popular that I worry that Amelie is going to follow suit, and secondarily because I wonder if people in the states are not going to know how to pronounce it. Do any of you know a little Amelie? Thoughts?

MN could be either Regina, Rose, Elizabeth, Anna, or Julene. All five are family names that I love. I'm also up for considering these MNs as FNs. Hmmmm...feedback?

Oh, and what about Magnolia ("Maggie") as a FN? Too out there?

  • Amelie is so pretty. Amelie Magnolia would be stunning.

  • Amelie is gorgeous, but I prefer the French pronunciation (I don't know how much of an issue that will be where you live). I adore Magnolia, so that gets my vote.

  • I love magnolia for a middle name option. DH vetoed all my fun middle name ideas lol

I like Amelie and far prefer it to Amelia.  Although, with the popularity of Amelia, I wouldn't be surprised if she got called Amelia a bit since the spellings are so similar.

This. Although I'd speculate it'd be more than a bit in the US

  • Anna magnolia is beautiful. I also like Elizabeth and Regina. Amelie is really pretty too but I'd worry it would get lost in the sea of Amelias.

  • I love Amelie! I wanted to name our LO that but I can't get DH on board. I think a single syllable middle name would be best.

  • I'm not a big fan of Amelia, but I do like Amelie.

    Magnolia is also adorable.

  • Love Amelie...  so pretty without being too frilly       I like Magnolia but not nearly as much
  • I like Amelie but, without the proper French pronounciation I think it would sound pretty butchered, and if you don't have a French heritage I don't really get choosing a very French name. Speaking as someone who speaks French and has lived in QC. My vote goes to Magnolia.

  • I actually really like Amelie, and I think enough people are familiar with the pronunciation that you wouldn't run into many issues.  That said, I also love Magnolia but don't care for the nn Maggie.  What about Amelie Magnolia?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Very helpful. As far as considering a very french name, I guess I see it the same as choosing a name like Genevieve, which would be pronounced John-vee-ev in French, but we pronounce it Jen-uh-veev in the US. I also don't mind the French pronunciation of Amelie, which is "Ah-may-lee" so it wouldn't bother me if it was pronounced in the french way, I guess.

Do any of you think this one is going to shoot up the charts and become much more popular, due to the raging popularity of Amelia?

I do really like Amelie Magnolia. It's pretty! I also like Amelie Rose or Amelie Elizabeth. So many choices...
