The leavings of a mouse...

In my effng downstairs closet! It's where we keep the dog food, fish food and random kitchen appliances (I don't like extra things on my counters). I'm so entirely grossed out and I spent 2 hours taking everything out, vacuuming and scrubbing all the shelves. I'm so freaking tired that I actually cried tears while doing this. I never cry. Then... I got a package in the mail. I open it and it's a book from a client for Haddock. The title... count to 10 with a mouse.

I laughed hysterically.

Haddock is in his swing and the vacuum is running. I'm going to invent a vacuum with soft, medium, and loud noise variations... specifically for babies.

I'm so mean I called my SO and blamed the mouse situation on him. I told him it's his fault for not fixing the dryer vent. Now I feel guilty because he's on his way to a funeral...I'm such a bitch.

I opening a bottle of wine because at least if I have a glass or 2 it'll be more fun trying to entertain a very pissed off baby.

No real point to this aside from the fact that I don't do much complaining on here and I'm freaking tired and I want someone else to understand.

Thank you...I'm finished now 8-X

  • I'm so sorry.  This was me cleaning out my office a few weeks ago after I had a visit from a mouse.  I still won't put anything that has to do with pumping or milk storage on the floor or touching the desk if I can help it.  I would be even more grossed out if it happened in my house.  Glad you got out the wine!

I'm sorry you're having a shitty day!  That SUCKS.  I don't mind mice but not amongst my stuff!  Enjoy your wine!

Exactly. I don't mind them either just not in my house :( thanks for letting me vent ladies!
  • @citrusfamily I'm sorry that's a way shittier day than mine :(
  • Gah!! I HATE mice. They get into our garage in the winter and terrorize the shit out of me. Although I had to LOL at the book you got. Of all days...

If it makes you feel better I've had days where my job makes me stabby and I've walked into the kitchen to take a swig of wine. In the middle of the afternoon. Sorry not sorry.

  • Yuck. Sorry to hear that. We tried peppermint oil and then eventually called an exterminator! They LOVE dog food.
  • Ugh I hate mice. I found one in my bathroom sink in our old house while DH was out to sea. It was the scariest moment of my life to date. I subsequently emailed H and blamed him for not taking care of it before he left. Enjoy your wine- hope your day gets better!

  • Wait, they were eating one another? What? I'd have taken them to the vet but I also wanted to take a baby chicken to the vet because something was wrong with it's eye... So... But still? How did they live with bleeding limbs?
  • I feel you on  the mice thing...we had a bad fall with them one year.  they were in and on everything.  I lost count after 10.  In the stove, in the cupboards, in the dishwasher (not the part where dishes go...under the top) all over the house...it sucked.  Finally doused the house in peppermint oil and havent seen them since!  And I think the local cats finally came back.  Hope the wine helped!!
  • Ewwww... It feels like such a violation to find an uninvited furry creatures poop. It would make anyone's day "shitty..." So sorry! Thinking about you and sending hugs and more wine :)

I'm not sure if it is true. In my experience if a vet doesn't know about an animal, they will learn. Exotic vet that is. No clue about illegal pets.

  • @elyse05 ick! And it stole an orchid? Not the whole plant, right? That'd be a huge rat, lol.
  • @mamasighs LOL at illegal cannibal hamsters.  I died.  But poor ICHs. :(

I was wondering why this thread all of a sudden had so many views/responses.  Ugh.

Their breed was illegal to own in several states and because they are considered rodents the vet would not see them. I think it is wonderful you love your Chinchillas but please understand I did everything I could for as long as I could and I will never buy them again, I feel bad about what I did, but there wasn't much else I could do. We used to let them play out there while cleaning out their cage so it wasn't as if they had never been there before, and we left them food and water, but they were both infected from biting/eating each other (I even tried to put Neosporin on their war wounds) and didn't know what else to do.

    Dude vets see pocket pets.

There was a ton else you could do- mainly don't leave an animal outside to die.

Here's the thing and I am saying this and I know maybe people will think it sounds like something straight out of @mrsohearts playbook, but I swear its real and will find photo evidence if need be lol but I had a hampster when I was younger- I bought it and the little hoe had babies a few days after I got her- 13 mother effing translucent babies- who gets sold a knocked up hampster!?

Anyway I call the pet shop, they say if you can't find owners we will take them back and sell them here. I researched- called a vet (because yes they do see pocket pets!) to find out how to tell the sex of them when they got a little older and guess what? I seperated them into boy cages and girl cages, so I had like 5 different hamster cages, one for mom, males and females, I didn't want them to be overcrowded, fight or get sick and die .

When they were big enough I gave them away! Point being: the responsible thing for you to have done was to separate them if they were fighting! Also, you say they were illegal but you bought them from petsmart- pretty sure it is also Illegal for them to sell an illegal species but don't quote me on that..... I don't know how I missed this last night...

  • I am not even touching the illegal cannibal hamster part of this thread.

@Ashbromle, I feel your pain on the mouse thing! Where I grew up on Long Island, you didn't get rodents in your home unless you were filthy, so imagine my shock when I moved to NJ and discovered its extremely commonplace to get them, especially if you live near woods. We had a mouse issue about two months after buying our house five years ago and I was horrified; seeing little poo balls every morning grossed me the eff out, especially since I am anal about the house being clean. I finally figured out where they were getting in and sealed the space, but that blew!

    Also, a funny mouse story:

When I was three months pregnant with Corri, we had a random mouse in our wall that was trying to eat its way into our house via an air vent. DH, who is afraid of mice, flipped the eff out and jumped on the couch to cower. I called an emergency exterminator (because of course this happened in the evening) and then sat my pregnant ass on the floor in front of the air vent, armed with a can of Lysol and a flashlight for the next two hours. Every time that little fucker stuck his head out of the hole he made, I squirted him with Lysol and shined the flashlight in his face to make him retreat...the exterminator cracked up at the visual when he finally got there, lol!
  • Sorry you had such a shitty day! Sometimes you just need to drink the wine and let it all out!
    <Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker>
  • Perfect timing on the book! At least that brought a little cheer for you.

Those no see mouse traps are awesome, you don't have to look at the little effers after they are dead.
  • Ewwww mice.  Do you have a cat you can borrow??  My cat would eat that mouse in 5 minutes.
