NO need to play the Mega Millions

because I've got the golden ticket!

Did you play?  What would you do with $636 million dollars?

And now I'm singing Jimmy Buffet's "If I had a million dollars" over and over...

For serious though, that's too much money for one person to have, so let's all promise to share, mmkay?

Re: NO need to play the Mega Millions

  • I'd probably buy a house, two new cars, donate to local charities, military charities, and St. Jude's, then help some family out and put away for my girls/LO.  And shop shop shop til I drop!

  • I'd share once said Facebook group was established. Too many crazies and crazies-yet to come for me to share my wealth! ;)

  • Seriously though, I'd invest most of it and live off the interest. I'd give money for college for all my most recent students. LOVED that group of kids. Plus a castle...with a moat.

  • Office has 43 tickets. I would be happy just to get my $2 back but would LOVE to have the big bucks.

Ditto the bolded. Also, I'd kiss my job goodbye and start working my way through the travel bucket list.

    This.

Plus, build our dream house and barn, and upgrade the cars.

  • My husband is very sensible about money, so he doesn't buy lottery tickets.  I, on the other hand, happened to have a dollar so there's a lotto ticket in my pocket.  I feel like it's an admit one to some happy daydreams.

The only things I know for sure that I would do with a pile of money is pay off my sister's college loans and buy a house.  And maybe an apartment complex, so we can live off the rent it generates.  :)

    Obvi. ;)

We could go together, since you know, we are sharing and all. :P

  • Invest, set up trust funds for our kids, start a foundation to handle charitable giving. Build our dream house, pay off our debt, quit our jobs and travel.

DH would buy a big share of a pro sports team.

You're from NE, right? Would you build here or elsewhere? Which team?

So we're sharing the jackpot? Coolz!

There's SO much we would do! Build our dream home, buy a vacation home, RETIRE!!!, do stuff for family and friends.

And I didn't know Jimmy Buffett did that song? I thought it was Barenaked Ladies.

I'm pretty sure Buffet did it first and BL covered it, I do prefer the BL version though.

Eta: I'm wrong Barenaked Ladies wrote it, but Buffet covered it.

actually the Barenaked Ladies....love them!  We did play, but after going to the casino this weekend and losing way too much money, I can bet that we don't have a winning ticket.  I would definitely donate a lot of it to my school and the families in it.  I would build my family members a house wherever they wanted, but probably in Florida cause that's where they all want to be for some reason.  We would build a house and be a family for a few years, then hop on a plane and travel!  I would invest a good portion of it for a rainy day!

  • @camrynnsmommy

We would probably build on land outside of, but very close to Omaha (Gretna or Elkhorn). Eventually we would want a vacation home somewhere to be determined by our travels.

I asked DH what team and he's a fan of the underdog so he'd pick a garbage, smaller market baseball team. He thinks he's an expert and would easily rebuild it...

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • I bought 5 quick picks tonight! I can't fathom that much money!!

First, I'd buy my mom the house of her dreams and get her out of debt! I'd pay for my sons, nieces & nephews to go to college and live for free as long as grades stay up.

My DS, DH and I would get our favorite cars. I'd build my dream houses in the mountains, at the beach and one somewhere else fun to vacation. I'd get many assistants!

I'd research charities to find the most honest and give them a ton!

    Then I would SHOP!
  • Also I'd hire a surrogate and have more children.
I would do this, too. I want more than one kid, but my body just can't handle being pregnant.
Yupp I thought maybe a second pregnancy would be better, nope.

  • For charities, we tend to support those that help military service members and military families; animals; local food pantries.

I'd set up my sisters for life, make sure their kids go to any college they want. Buy my parents a new home, cars. We'd also set up most of it in investments to preserve it and so we can do more with it. We'd also do some of these things slowly. I think our state requires winners to be made public, but we'd try to not draw any attention to what we're doing, changing, etc.

But before all this, and the other things I mentioned, we'd upgrade the alarm system in our home to mad crazy secure, and then do the same when we build a new house. I'd also add/upgrade alarm systems in the homes of our parents and my sisters.

If I won the lottery I would 1) go to law school and 2) start a non profit that helped consumers. Like help them fund individual lawsuits when there's a no class action clause or help them pay for the cost of arbitration. And lobby for arbitration fairness.

eta: and I'd help any M14 mommy with their legal stuff, pro bono :)

We would probably head to Hawaii as well. I never got a new passport with my married name and DD doesn't have one either so we'd be limited to the US!

Ugh, that's exactly what I wouldn't want! I'll find many ways to help people, but I do not want to be solicited, especially not like that. So we're adding Change All Phone Numbers and Un-publish Them to the list!

oh- and i'd get that freaking sakura bloom wrap i've been eying, a crap ton of adorable little moccs, and whatever else i wanted because, well, i'm rich! muahhahahahah.

I think the last time there was a huge lottery winning, at least one of the winners didn't come forward for a month or two because they were setting up their privacy walls.  (I've heard the big winners sometimes get people who trespass and try to get hurt on your property so they can sue you.)  Maybe if you go Ken Jennings and publicly donate a big chunk so everyone knows you don't have the big pile of money, then people won't hassle you for being lucky at lottery.
