@ChuggingWater -- in all seriousness, I agree with this. I prefer a top shelf cocktail or good wine, rather than a cheap vodka and soda or something like that. It tastes better and doesn't cause as much pain the next day.
All things beauty related. Coloring and cutting my hair is done by me because I'm a cosmetologist so I refuse to pay other people to do mine but I'll buy expensive color. But haircare products and makeup and skincare I tend to splurge on. And jeans cause its hard to find any that fit me just right.
Shoes, purse, and a lot of the time, clothes. I would much rather have 1 really nice pair of jeans over a few pairs of meh jeans, for example. Shoes are my downfall though.
Me(32) + DH(32) TTC #1 since Dec 2011

- I love a fancy hair salon. I haven't dyed my hair in a year or two and it is driving me crazy a bit.
- I buy high quality makeup but don't wear it too often so it lasts a long time. DH just sent me this site: www.temptalia.com/makeup-dupe-list. Not sure if he is trying to tell me something.
- I need to travel. One international trip every two years.
- I buy way too many Indian outfits when I go to India. I don't have that many events to go to but they are so pretty... and so expensive.
Travel. DH and I like to spend money on travel, but when we do it is not about staying at luxurious hotels/spas. Often times we will stay in a flat for a couple days when visiting a city (which we find on sites like AirbNb). In most cases it is cheaper or similar as nice hotels, but you have so much more space and you do not have to eat out every meal.
I also splurge once a year on a shopping trip and buy a couple key pieces to add to my wardrobe. By splurge I mean shopping at Anthropologie or small boutiques and finding something unique. I can't bring myself to spend money on high end designers.
We also tend to spend money on outdoor gear for our hiking trips. The most expensive pair of shoes I've ever bought were my hiking boots...
Repeat of what a lot of others have already listed: Makeup, designer jeans and hair conditioners (just the condition, I don't mind using a slightly cheaper shampoo)
- Fav makeup: Make Up For Ever concealer and foundation, Lancome liquid liner, Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Mac eye shadows and makeup brushes - Fav jeans (pre-pregnancy): Joe's, 7s, True Religion, Hudson - Fav conditioners: Alterna Caviar and Pureology
My horse stuff. I expect my saddle, boots, helmet, whatever to hold up really well to wear and tear (with a lot of rough use and minimal cleaning) so I don't really mind spending a lot to get it (DH may not me so careless of the cost, though)
I love everything about this!! I'm the same way, although since I'm not showing anymore I have stopped myself from buying new stuff very often! My horse did just have a very very pretty vet bill I had to pay... DH knew not to say anything about it. I'll do anything for my 4 legged babies!!!
I use Mac make-up and Bumble & Bumble shampoo/conditioner, so those are definitely splurges. I also get my hair highlighted/colored every other month, so that's a splurge as well. And jeans. Not too many fit me right, so I like certain brands (mostly Joe's) b/c they just look better on me.
I'm with @megs12914 and @goldenB. I splurge on make up, usually Sephora or Mary Kay. I really like the MK cleansers, mostly because I grew up with them so my skin works well with it. But I love color products from Sephora!
I also will splurge on my hair. I don't get really expensive cuts, but I don't like them super cheap either. But I will spend a ton on products. DH has to supervise me so I don't spend "too much."
My current splurge has been stuff for our little girl. I adore shopping for her and can't wait til we can shop together!
@megs12914 & @goldenb I totally splurge on makeup too. Have either of you tried birchbox? You put in your preferences and they send makeup samples each month for like $10ish a month. I find it a fun and inexpensive way to try new stuff I wouldn't normally think of!
Never heard of it before, but thanks for the heads up.
This could get very expensive for my bank account - what if I like ALL the products?!

@Peanutmuse - Yeah, I wasn't kidding. Other than beer. I do like my Coors light, but by God, if I am going to drink wine or liquor, it will be better quality than what I drank in high school.

@Kc101212 I haven't but I will now! I haven't worn make-up in about a month since I've been here and I miss it. I need a good mascara.
@goldenB I can't go to either place with DH because he would flip out. The one time I did he was like, "How did you spend $200 on 5 things?!"
I said, "Umm easy. It could have been worse. A lot worse."
@megs12914, Chanel Mascara is amazing! I also splurge on makeup.
@iamkerryanne I usually wear Dior blackout show but this last time I tried the benefit and didn't love it. I'll try the Chanel I normally like their stuff!

Shoes, always shoes!! Then of course the staple pieces in your wardrobe; winter coat, a couple of nice pairs of trousers, a DVF wrap dress, some nice tops and the rest can be whatever you find. Also, anything tht touches my skin really; makeup, toiletries, TP. I'm not one for "cheap" things because I find that they never last long anyways. Might as well spend money on something classic that lasts (except mat clothes, I cheaper out there but they were short term).
My current splurge has been stuff for our little girl. I adore shopping for her and can't wait til we can shop together!

I have to agree with some of the PPs that I am usually super cheap and don't like to spend a lot on myself. My friend talked me into getting my makeup done a few years ago by someone at a MAC store and now I can't bring myself to buy anything else. If I didn't think it was worth it I wouldn't be able to buy it, but I look & feel so much better with the higher end makeup and it lasts forever so I think it's justified.
I haven't tried birchbox, but ipsy is another company that does the same thing. They send you a cute bag with products each month. I got myself a subscription when DD was born as a little treat for myself to look forward to every month. I loved it! I have heard from friends that have used both services that ipsy tends to give out more full-size products opposed to just small samples.
This year for Christmas I told anyone who asked what I wanted to get me an amazon gift card because there are some bigger ticket items I'd like. I'm just too embarrassed to tell everyone that what I really want is the new urban decay naked palette. I don't need the judgment!
Also, baby items. I get so many hand-me-downs and used items for great prices. Every once in a while I will splurge on something nice for the kids. I bought DD a pretty fancy convertible car seat, a video monitor (which I'm obsessed with), and plan on getting DS a nice plush blanket since basically everything else he will have for a while will be from DD.
Shoes. I really don't care about the brand, but quality and comfort are essential. I'm not going to wear any shoe that cuts away at my foot no matter how pretty and/or how cheap they are.
And food. I'll spend way more for good organic fruits and meats and find other ways to cut corners.
We think the same! All my heels and shoes are comfortable and if they are not..I return them.
Fo shiz. Shoes are my primary splurge. Then hair. Then bed sheets.
Big ticket items. I can't justify a lot of money for hair, clothes, make up and such when I'm a SAHM and spend most of my days chasing after my kid. Not that I don't take care of myself, but my DH would kill me if I spent 100+ on a hair cut or 50+ on eye shadow. If I was working, I'd be more willing to shell out the cash. But - I don't think I've ever owned an electronic that wasn't top of the line when it was purchased and we spent an embarrassing amount of money on our tempur pedic mattress.
I splurge on makeup and my hair too - although, I haven't been doing a lot of makeup since I found out I was pg. Not for any particular reason other than my skin has changed a little and I feel better with minimal to nothing on. I have however, been spending wayyyy too much on cloth diapers but as it is with money I bring in from extra violin gigs I take (and therefore mine), DH can't complain! He splurges on jewelry for me, of which I also have no complaints!
Since a lot of people said make-up I just wanna ask- what are some of you guys' fav brands? I'm never consistent when I buy make-up so I don't have any favorites. But Sephora just emailed me about my b-day gift so I thought I'd splurge a little.
I splurge on MAC makeup, Coach purses and American Eagle jeans. Can't wait to wear normal jeans again, will be sad to see if I don't fit any of my old jeans and have to buy all new ones.
