Multiples

What books did you find helpful for after babies are born?

I feel like there isn't much info out there on how to handle multiples after birth. Even now, insurance sent me a pregnancy book for a singleton.  There is literally one line related to multiples and it was of no use.  Everything I've come across has really applied to a singleton and I would have to imagine that with 2 it is very different.

What did you guys find helpful?  How did you all prepare to tackle feedings, naps... everything really?

Re: What books did you find helpful for after babies are born?

  • Hi there! I had similar questions & read everything I could get my hands on when I was pregnant (I figured with 2 I'd better know what I was doing!!).
#1 My most favorite book, the one that has kept me from calling a shrink, having kids who STTN, and kept me (so far) from having kids that are in charge of the house is Bringing Up Bebe
    #2 Twinspiration
#3 I used some info from Babywise for developing a schedule (but i otherwise found to be too dogmatic)
#4--just for coping--the video version of Happiest Baby on the Block, available in most libraries.

    I hope this is helpful!! : )

  • I second Bringing up Bebe - a nice counterbalance to the (IMO) hysterical parenting/mothering culture in this country. Also recommend the Happiest Baby DVD. I would add:

Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense by Ellyn Satter
Solve your Child's Sleep Problems by Richard Ferber

Feeding your babies and sleeping will be all-consuming during the first year. These books are by far the most dog-eared in my library right now!

  • Sleep Lady book!

  • Healthy sleep habits, happy baby and the twins version. I liked the original first bc it goes into better depth than the twins version.
And Happiest Baby on the Block is a god send.
  • Um.  I don't have time to read books anymore, and the books that I read before having the twins have been thoroughly erased from my memory (like so many other things).  This forum and Google are all I ever really need.

  • Thanks all. Since I'm stuck at home on the couch, bookstore searches can get overwhelming. I will be checking out these suggestions!
