Everyone but me is convinced I'm having a girl. I swear it's a boy.
That being said, we won't know for sure, but we like the idea of not going overly boy-ish or overly girl-ish in a nursery.
Boyfriend likes the idea of a two tone wall. I don't know how much I love it (unless there's a chair rail or something, not just a line of paint). We have agreed on colors: greige and aqua.
If it's a girl we'll add some pink accents (I love the idea of a monogram like the picture shows).
Well, I really loved DD's nursery, which we decorated to use for either sex. Minty green walls and PBK's lamb-themed bedding. We did pink accents when we found out it was a girl. Unfortunately we ended up moving and didn't get to enjoy the nursery as long as I would have liked to. We're in a rental right now so I'm totally uninspired. We're building a house that should be done before LO arrives (should is the operative word) so I highly doubt I'll have much time to decorate anything. Right now we're planning on reusing all of DD's stuff and I'm even contemplating using the exact same paint color that we used in our old house. I'm actually more excited about decorating a new room for DD!
DS's room is still in the same theme as when he was a baby. We did an ABC and animal theme, it doesn't really scream nursery. We went totally neutral which will work out well in case they have to share a room.
I don't like character themes like Winnie the Pooh, etc. I like simple color themes. For a girl I like teal and hot pink and for a boy, blue and chocolate brown.
Oh my gosh guys. I shouldn't have read all this. I'm about to go on a Pinterest binge while simultaneously creating a registry. If anyone has any ideas for a shared toddler baby room that would be great.
@TonyaCody06 I love the stripes in Reese's room. Was that hard? I did a stripe on either side of our fireplace and I had a rough time. I can't imagine more. However, I'd love to do an accent wall like that!
I don't even have a room to be a nursery. It'll probably just be a corner of my bedroom until we can figure out another bedroom. We haven't started to think about anything baby related yet.
We just extended our lease to July 2014. We plan to buy a house sometime before or after the baby comes. So, we will probably not have a baby nursery ready until the baby is a few months old. That hasn't stopped me from planning. In fact, I picked out the crib before I told my fiance I was pregnant. It is this one: We will probably wait to buy it until we have our house and will use a bedside co-sleeper of some kind the first 6 months or so.
I tend to like modern furniture with vintage accents. That is what I plan to do. I have been saving a Mother Goose book from when I was a kid to frame a few of the pages. It totally fits now because I am a school librarian. My fiance has an old metal firetruck he has saved from childhood, so we will be doing those sorts of accents. If it is a little girl I want to have a girly, small chandelier, but do not want to make it too princess-y.
I painted elaborate wall murals for my neices when they were born, but I think I will do something more simple--a few accents here and there, maybe paint an alphabet or something like that.
I picked out possible colors yesterday. Light pink, red, and mint green if it is a girl. Grey, blue and orange if it is a boy. Here are a few examples I was inspired by.
girl--substitute the bright blue-green with a mintier green:
We painted the room a bright almost lime green a few years ago and decided we wanted to do a bug theme. Cutesy bugs though like A Bug's Life. But that was a few years ago...it took us awhile to get pregnant.
Since then my mom gave me the curtains she made for my nursery. They are a bright almost cicrcusy animal print. I like the idea of using them since they were mine when I was a baby. But the colors/theme don't really go with what we planned before. I plan to find a way to incorporate them even if I just frame one and hang it somewhere.
We are also house hunting so that may change our plans.
This thread had me so excited I went on pinterest last night and found these adorable birch trees with birds we are going to put on the walls. Excited!
We opted for a cool grey color for the walls, dark (espresso) finished wood, and white bedding. The theme of the room is loosely based on Peter Pan in that we have a few framed quotes from the book that I did as well as one that I had made into a wall mural. The one that is a wall mural is this one: "You know that place between sleep and awake, that place where you still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you. That's where I'll be waiting." The wall mural is centered over his crib.
For this baby, I plan to move my son into the room next door after I redecorate it and keep the nursery as is for baby number two, barring a few color accent changes if it is a girl.
We are going to do a beach/ocean theme. My 5 yr old is in the room right now and that's what she planned for her "new" bedroom...now she's gets to share a room with hers sister. We already have things for the wall. White furniture, aqua color walls with bead board and purple/aqua paisley bedding.
We're in military housing so I'm kind of limited in what I can do to the walls. I would love to paint a gray and white striped wall, but I may stick to making some gray and white striped curtains instead. The dresser I have in there is white, so we'll probably do all white furniture. I think we might do some little turquoise accents but mainly stick to gray and white. I'm design challenged, so I'll be doing a lot of google image searches
We're not planning to find out the sex, so it's going to be as gender neutral as possible. Probably lots of yellow, cream, brown, grey. Ever since I got pregnant I've been obsessed with giraffes - it's like baby is telling me s/he like's giraffes, it's very strange because I've never thought twice about giraffes before. So that's definitely fits with keeping it gender neutral.

DS has a green and brown room with elephants and polka dots. His name is also on the wall. If this one is a boy, I think I'd like to do blue and maybe gray (eventually - for now s/he will be in our room for the foreseeable future because we have a 2 BR apartment). For a girl I'd like to go all out pink with some orange in there. My H has a gift for painting so he wants to paint a mural on the wall.
@Allytales, love your theme! Those bright colors will be so fun and whimsical for LO.
My H and I are big book folks, so we spent a long time trying to come up with the most fun book-themed nursery. We ultimately decided on Harry Potter for the nursery which, I know, I know, some of you will hate. It's not going to be over-the-top or tacky, and we're really excited about it. We've already gotten started, since it's totally gender neutral!
Right now, we're planning on having the door to the nursery be like Platform 9 3/4, with a sign and everything, and each thing inside labeled as a part of the world (the closet is Madam Malkin's, etc.). And the decor will be themed, but tastefully, so it's still a nursery and not a movie set
"And all the house elves came to help, and THAT was the day Voldemort was defeated!"
I hadn't thought for one second about nursery themes until yesterday...now I'm pretty sure that themes are the only thing I have been thinking about.
I think for a girl, we have decided on a pink and gray color scheme with a few chevron and polka dot accents, and elephant accents. For a boy, we would probably do a blue, green and gray color scheme with the same accents. Maybe throw some giraffes in for good measure, and because they are super cute.

This morning precisely, I lookedinto baby rooms. This is what I'll be doing (no carpet and no canopy over crib). i love Rest Hardware. We won't find out sex so this is pretty neutral.
We arent finding out the sex so we are going to do light gray walla with white panels on bottom or light gray on top, chair rail and darker on bottom. I am using the cribs wall to stencil a pattern either trellis or lattice. We are getting antique gray furniture and a gray glider/ rocker. Once baby comes, we want to throw in either blue, green or lavendar. I want it to be very modern and sleek. We already purchased this rug. Restoration baby and pinterest inspires me.
For a girl I love the owl themes. For a boy maybe something nautical or water related. I love the idea of soft gray walls and then painting the ceiling a pink or blue color. I've seen this many times on Pinterest and it looks so pretty.

This sounds pretty awesome to me...my baby will definitely have some Harry Potter inspired onesies that I've seen on pinterest, such as saying Muggle Born and Gryffindorable and I fully intend on doing a HP inspired photo shoot shortly after he is born, to this effect:
We're doing a beachy theme, to match the rest of our house. I'm thinking a soft/muted sea foam green with dark wood and a lot of white accents... navy blue thrown in if we are team blue, pink or coral if we are team pink.
I don't really like themes. We are still undecided if we will be Team Green or if we will find out. If we decide Team Green the nursery will be white and sherbet orange. If we decide to find out and baby is a girl, it will be grey, pink and white. Super girly. If it is a boy, H wants to do an aviation theme (he is in aviation). I am not sold on it. I want it to be grey, navy and red.
Our second room was our office but is now getting the baby makeover! It's sea foam green which will stay but we will have different accent colors depending on a boy (probably navy) and gold and coral for a girl. All white and/or birch furniture bc we live by the beach and everything in our house is white or light wood. And like many of you, I already have a secret Pinterest board going for my inspiration!!
