I just got home from a 3 hour appointment which included the a/s, meeting with the genetic counselor and extra blood work.
Baby measured fine in all areas except the nuchal fold. The doctor said it was thicker than normal which can be a sign of down syndrome. He had us meet with the genetic counselor who went over so much information. I asked how this could go undetected when my risk of downs came back negative in my 1st and 2nd trimester screenings and ultrasound. I guess that test is only 85% accurate. I could have fallen into the 15% "undetected" range.
My head is swimming with information and I'm terrified. DH broke down and cried right after the doctor left. I held it together until I got to the car. I opted out of the amnio because of the miscarriage rate but did the non-invasive blood work instead. It has a 99% accuracy rate of detecting down syndrome and trisomy 13/18, so I figured I can go without testing for all other genetic abnormalities. If the blood work comes back positive, I'll have to do the amnio to rule out a false positive. If the baby has trisomy 13 or 18, the survival rate beyond 1 year is less than 5%.
I'm so scared. I feel angry and and cheated out of a normal, happy pregnancy. I feel like I'm being punished for wanting another baby when we already have a great daughter. We've worked so hard to get to this point that I thought I could start to relax and now I don't think I will until the baby gets here. How am I going to survive the 10 day wait for my test results? And then what if they're bad? How will I get through Christmas?
I'm sorry to dump all of this on you, but I know this is a safe place. Thanks for listening.
Update: I have spoken with my RE and my OB about the results. My RE reassured me that there's nothing wrong with me to indicate a higher risk of DS (egg quality, diagnosis, etc.) Then, my OB's nurse said that they typically don't send patients to the doctor I saw because "he always finds something that scares a lot of our patients when it's nothing." I only went to him because I saw him with DD 5 years ago and didn't have a problem with him although I have read a lot of reviews that he always finds something and orders a LOT of extra tests, amnio, blood work, etc. My ob's office said that I could go get a second opinion. I think we will do this while we wait for the results. Thank you for the prayers!

04/13 - Off the Bench! 7.5 mg Femara + trigger + IUI #2 + estradiol + P4 = BFN
05/13 Clear HSG-5 mg Femara + Menopur + trigger + IUI #3 + P4 = BFP ectopic (MTX 07/03 & 07/11)
07/23 emergency lap to remove ectopic mass and left tube

Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN. After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.
August 16, 2013: BFP our first month of "not trying!" Still in shock. Beta #1 (14dpo): 183. Beta #2 (17dpo): 611. Ultrasound 8/30/13: baby measured 6 weeks, 1 day, heart rate of 118 bpm!
Ultrasound 9/13/13: 8 weeks, heart rate of 176!
Baby is due 4/26/14
IUI#4 1/23/13 on 75iu x9 Follistim = BFP then chem preg m/c (Feb 2013)

| Married since 2008 | DH and I: Both 30 | Me: Endometriosis and Carrier of an X-Linked Dominant Genetic Disorder | DH: Low Morph | Planning IVF with PGD and PGS in 2013 | Freeze-All IVF #1: March 2013 ER 3/26. 29R, 12M, 11F. 4 5AA frozen blasts. Freeze-All IVF#2: May 2013 ER 5/15. 31R, 21M, 20F. 6 5AA frozen blasts. Our PGD probe was completed in late June (total of 20 weeks to develop). PGD and PGS Results came on 6/19: 3 healthy embryos (normal chromosomes and unaffected by my family's genetic disorder). FET #1: July 2013 Natural Cycle - Cancelled due to insufficient lining (only got to 7.5mm). FET #1.2: August 2013 - Medicated Cycle with Lupron & Estrogen Patches to build up lining. Single embryo transfer was 8/23. Beta #1: 240! Beta #2: 578! U/S on 9/19 at 6w4d: We saw the heart beating at 131bpm. Second U/S on 10/4 at 8w5d: We saw the heart beating at 178bpm. EDD 5/11/2014

Hugs... I never intro here during my pregnancy because I was too scared too, but I had to comment... I hope it's ok...We also had a nuchal fold measurement that indicated downs along with an echogenic bowel... Turns out he did not have Downs... Hang in there!
