More on weight gain

During my appt this weekend, my
midwife was like, "Wow! Your weight shot up. What are you even eating?!"

I'm 25 weeks, four days, and I've gained about 35 lbs. I'm eating well, I don't have any crazy cravings I'm indulging in, and I walk about two miles per day. I'm measuring normal, and she's not worried so I'm not worried about what this means for my pregnancy, I just wish my body would, I guess, be nicer to me.

I don't feel like I look like I'm up to 172 lbs, but I am rocking a double chin and a major increase in boobies.

I guess I'm just the type of woman who has a heavy pregnancy? Is that even a thing?

All of this is to say, I wish my midwife had just kept her mouth shut if there isn't something wrong with me.

Re: More on weight gain

  • Hell, I wouldn't worry about if they are not! Every ounce of that 35lbs is worth it for your healthy little one. Water retention, boob mass increase, blood mass increase, the baby gaining a little weight- who freaking knows... You'll have plenty of time to worry about taking it off come april!!

35lbs @ almost 26 weeks does seem like a lot to me (just my opinion). I think that is what is recommended for the whole pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about it if they haven't said anything to you about it. I personally have gained 18lbs.

I guess everyone is different. My mom gained only 8lbs total while she was pregnant with me (I was 6lbs9oz). DH's mom gained 75lbs while she was pregnant with him (almost 9lb baby at birth). Personally my goal is to stay under 200lbs. I started at 155.

ETA: I forgot to mention.. if you started out under weight you are expected to put on more weight than someone like me who started out about 10lbs over weight should gain less. I am not sure how much you weighed to begin with.

  • @FarmBoysWife It's not anything other than me posting something I felt like posting.
  • Op I didn't take this as a comparative weight post. Your mw wasn't being very tactful! If you are being healthy eating and working out then just let your body do what it has to do. Pics have gained a good but in the past two weeks which is ironic since I was cleared for working out about 3 weeks ago and stepped up my workouts 2 weeks ago...and when I work out I tend to eat healthier to avoid canceling it out! So it's apparently just time to gain a bit more. And yes some people gain more than others. A good friend of mine gained 11 with her 1 st and 15 with her 2nd. She was 'normal' weight to start. It was just what her body needed to do.

You're pregnant. You are probably going to gain weight. You might gain more than others. You might gain less than others.

    End of story.
You're suppose to gain weight while pregnant?!? uhhhh... bummer.

I gained 5 lbs with DS ending my pregnancy at 175lbs and have gained -15 lbs this pregnancy. Anyone who gains more than that needs to diet yo. Cause my weight should set the bar with ALL women who are pregnant and posting on the bump. Fo' sura' \m/
I've gained 7 so far, but I have two in there, am I still hitting the bar?!?! #:-S

  • Geez, you ladies are real cunts and you're ruining a nice resource with your shitty attitudes. Thanks to those who gave actual responses.

    Wowee that escalated quickly!
  • My guess is if your weight shot up quickly, she could be worried about gestational diabetes, pre-e...or any other things that could attribute to a quick weight gain.

I think it's out of our hands at this point in time. I'm eating the same as before, when I was losing weight, but I've been packing it on for the last couple visits.

ETA: holy shit! I totally didn't read past the OPs post! Bahahahahaha...

Ya...I didn't see cunt thrown out there until after I responded (nicely I might add)

The C word was not necessary I swear all the time but I hate the C word! That's not cool @icecreamsocialite Fwiw your 172 mark actually pisses me off. I've gained about 7-10 lbs and I'm at 175. So am I having a "heavy pregnancy"? Nope I'm right on effing track So really your doc was an ass for saying what she said but it's something to pay attention to as pp have said due to GD etc Edited to add: weight posts really irk me
  • In the Caribbean you call someone a mothersc***. It all flows together so statesiders probably would have no idea what was said. It's a HUGE insult.

The c word is my fave. When I moved to canada I struggled to stop saying it. In New Zealand, you can be a "drunk c***" or a "good c***" or any kind if c*** really. It's never been offensive to me (but obviously was meant to be offensive in this thread). There's actually a song called "you can't say c*** in canada". Beside the point, but just thought I'd throw it out there...

    That's funny Laura!

I'm gonna use that, thanks Babylimas. I might even use it on TB ;)

Just for accuracy's sake make sure you say it more like muda sc***.
  • Vent away, sorry you had a crappy appointment!!

  • Chillin' like a villain. =))

OP, I was going to say something like "dude, that sucks that your MW made you uncomfortable."

But then you called everyone the c-word which just ain't classy. [-X

It's to much!! You're going to give your babies some major birth defect from so much weight gain. Two or not! Diet diet diet!!! :-bd
Your advice might also be the cure to OP's sudden snoring problem:  Diet, diet, diet!

Two birds, one stone, I like it.

  • I posted a similar thread last week-more posting to vent about my doc. If they could at least phrase it 'you're tracking high but everything looks great....just watch ur empty calories" I would've been great. Instead she just said "um you've gained as much weight as we'd recommend for your entire pregnancy....sssoooo"

This whole body changing thing is still nerve racking. I get why, but sometimes i can't help but be sensitive, too!
  • I have gained 3. I deserve a prize. Cookie perhaps?

Or maybe I'm having a heavy pregnancy because I started above 176? Then lost 10 lbs from m/s and stress and drama from two huge losses in my family? But must be a heifer at my 177+++ current weight.

    I'm still having that cookie.

  • My doctor told me that ideal weight gain range is 25-35 lbs. if you are thin to begin with.  If you are overweight, you should gain less.  This is just a range.  I gained 43 lbs. with my first and I'm on pace to only gain around 27 lbs. this time.  I haven't done anything different.   I think you are supposed to gain around 1 lb. per week from here on out so you are looking at about a 50 lb. gain total.  That is obviously above average so they were prob just concerned about Gest. Diabetes etc. If you feel fine and are eating healthy, I wouldn't worry.   You should be taking your Glucose Tolerance Test soon.
  • I'm with FBW on the weight gain thing. I've gained two pounds back since losing 16 in the first tri.
I guess i can keep track on how big LO is! Haha

  • I don't keep track of my weight but I think I've gained about 11 lbs. With DS3 the doctor told me that it was nbd, just more to lose later.

wow a call out of cunts bc of a reaction based on your often repeated weight gain post... nice

I have seen OP around before and recognize her. I don't think post is remotely a how much have you gained post. She had a shitty appointment and vented about it. And honestly, she is on the upper end of weight gain at this point. I love you ladies but I think you're reeeeally hoping drama will come. Plus I think this is just one of y'all's weird arbitrary rules, like the intro obsession.

Yup, I read this as "my midwife just made me feel really shitty. Please support."

  • too funny, I never participate, but my SIL gained 70 pounds with her first and almost as much with her second, and now weighs less than she did to start and is in fantastic shape. My mom only gained 15 lbs with both of us, and had a lot of trouble ever getting her figure back. I gave up letting this stuff stress me out a long time ago.

It is typically almost impossible for me to lose weight. But now, I am eating worse than I did before and more and I am up about 2-3 lbs. DH force feeds me avacado... but im taking my PNVs and walking when it isn't iced over. Women say awful things to each other about everything from breastfeeding to sleeping arrangements. Do you, say what you are thinking to your docs and move on.
