OMG. I just finished reading an article about how teaching your very young children that they can never say no to you (the "authority") can lead to them not saying no to other adults who want them to do things that they should not be doing. (Scary, scary abuse stuff.) They need to learn how to say no and how to express what they are comfortable with.

My mom is a psych nurse who works in an eating disorders unit - these kids will likely be her patients someday! This situation would make her FURIOUS, and she has no trouble giving it to parents in group therapy about how their actions have contributed to their child's eating disorders.

Omg I can't! I read the first two pages and the last page. Had to stop because I just want to find her and "spank" her!

My parents made me eat all the food on my plate or I wasn't allowed to leave the table. I've had years of food issues because I mentally cannot leave anything on my plate. I don't blame my parents, they were raised in poor post WWII Russia, so while I don't agree with it, I have forgiven them. I will never do this to my child.

I was also spanked as a child, only when I did super terrible things. I always thought I would spank my children as well, if the need arose. However, now that Jacob is here, one look in his eyes and I know I would never lay my hand on him, no matter how angry he will get me or how old he is. Spanking a 6 month old is just plain crazy!!!!

Next thing you know she'll be saying "My child won't eat what I want him to so I strike him to show dominance, but now I hit him because he hits his peers at school - I just don't understand what has gotten into him, thinking it's ok to hit people to get what you want!!!!" Obnoxious!!! Had to leave that page ASAP.

Holy crap. Well, I will say this...we have a rule that our kids must try a bite of everything on their plate. I will fight them to the death on it (and by fight them to the death I mean hold firm and bribe with a cookie for dessert). Once they try one bite, if they don't like it, they don't have to have any more. 9 times out of 10 they do like it and will eat it next time.

So my children aren't picky eaters either...no spanking required.

Seriously, WTF? Who the heck spanks a 2 yr old for not eating something?

INSANITY! I feel sorry for the teachers that will have her children someday as they will have to deal with self righteous, demanding parents and students who are emotionally disturbed and potentially behavior problems in the classroom.

ETA: How can you actually believe that your very young children are sinners? They're kids who are learning, not purposely doing something wrong. Makes me so annoyed when people think that kids just "get" things. No, they have to be taught and have to figure things out on their own.

I have never ever said this about anyone, but I really do feel terrible for her kids. I was raised in a house like that. I have chosen not to have a relationship with my father sperm donor, but I certainly have a whole lot of issues because of him. I doubt she'll see the error of her ways until it's too late to take any of it back.

I wonder if her interpretation of the Bible is literal. If so, if she doesn't segregate herself from all people, especially men, for the 7 days she is "unclean," then she has no right to talk. And yes, I know the correct verse to site this. Just sayin', you can't just pick and choose what fits your deluded mind.

Sounds like Lauren_Elaine goes to the same church my parents went to when I was a kid.... A church they ended up leaving after several women tried pushing my mom to do that kind of abusive 'training' because, apparently, my siblings and I were too strong willed and needed to be taught who was really in charge.

Btw: all six of us have grown up to be well adjusted adults who are not picky eaters

A little bit of a spin off: we have this woman who comes in my library. She has 5 kids 8 and younger. The youngest is 1. She is constantly saying how bad the 1 year old is. I have observed her/her kids many times. Every time she refers to the baby being bad it is a defense maneuver by the baby in response to something an older sibling did! Example: her 8 year old was shoving a teddy bear into the babys face while the mom was trying to put a jacket on the baby. The baby could not turn her head/get away from the older child and was struggling because of feeling suffocated. The bear was literally smashed agaunst the babys face! What did the mom do? Rolled the baby over and spanked it...HARD. As I stood there mouth agape, she said to me "see what I mean? She just such a bad kid!" Um mm, no! She was fighting to be able to breath, you idiot!

Dang from reading what PP said, It's really sad at such a young age to be spanked.. SO and his siblings were spanked too for not wanting to eat when they were kids and they have some picky eating issues now as grown adults. Luckily SO is in the culinary field where he got exposed to a kinds of food and built his palate, but the rest of his family refuses to eat anything new other than their mom's cooking.
