So, our house caught on fire last night.

Everyone is fine but I've never been that scared in my life. Chimney flue was improperly installed when the old owners renovated 15 years ago and the studs in the wall caught on fire. Last thing I saw before running out the door clutching our cat was the bookshelves in our den orange with flames. I was sure the whole thing was going to burn down.

Turns out the fire breaks worked perfectly, firemen tore down several walls to put the fire out and make sure it hadn't spread, our basement is flooded, and there is an enormous mess to clean up. We did three hours worth of cleanup late last night, got the ash and fire extinguisher dust out of there, and the debris, but the house is livable if very, very, smelly.

My asthma started acting up (smoke, dust, who knows what else) so I'm seeing my PCP this morning to get checked out just to be sure, my OB's office is closed for the holiday and I really don't think this warrants a call to L&D. Baby's been kicking me, though baby was eerily still while I panicked all night last night. Freaked me right out, I can tell you that.

So that was our Thanksgiving. I guess we'll have a story to tell the kids and a real, true reason to be thankful it wasn't much, much worse.
