have you given your baby water/juice?

I'm just wondering because I haven't yet. If you have, what type should I look for?

Re: have you given your baby water/juice?

  • I gave her watered down apple juie today for the vitamin c. She has been fighting off a cold for a month and I'm grasping at straws now. She actually really liked it and I let her drink it from a cup which went over surprisingly well. I don't think I'd do it regularly but that's because we decided that out house would be pop and juice free until c is older.

  • Not yet. When I do, it will be water.

  • I gave LO an ounce or two of water when I was trying to get him to feed every three hours instead of every two.  He kinda of thought water was funny (he laughed at it) and we went back to feeding on demand.

  • We just started water with her sippy. I only put like half an oz - 1 oz and she rarely gets most of it.

  • Just an ounce of water here and there constipation. Other than that... nope.
  • We give her pear juice for constipation. There is baby juice usually in the baby section of stores. You want low sugar and no additives.
  • A little bit of water, she liked it

  • i actually asked our pedi about this and he said he doesn't want her drinking water until she's a year old because he doesn't want to fill her up with fluids that aren't nutritious. He also recommends no juice at all because of the sugar content. We're not going to start sippy cups until she's closer to 9 months since he said he wants her off bottles by the time she's a year old, but he said if we wanted to see what she does with a sippy cup, put milk or fomula in it.

  • We've done a teeny bit of water in a tiny shot glass. I put less than an ounce in, and she spills at least half of it, so that's how I know it's a teeny bit. We did not start until we started foods though. We were recommended it for digestion.

  • Yep. We're giving water with his food everyday and I gave him a little bit of prune juice when he was constipated. He not a bowel mover so the water is suppsed to help.
  • We've given an ounce to two of water in a sippy cup with his evening meal. He just chews on the cup though so he hasnt really gotten any yet.
  • We also got Apple only organic juice. To help with constipation.

  • DS has had water in his straw cup and loves it. I limit him to 2oz a day.

I didn't give juice to my DD until she was 20 months old. I was worried she would stop drinking milk if I gave her juice. I feel like juice is empty calories.

We do water in the sippy with solids, and M LOVES it.  Like, he'd rather chug from that dumb sippy than eat.

Obviously, a post about drinking water is an excellent opportunity for me to AW my son.

  • I give her 2 oz of water in a sippy cup to play with in her highchair. She gets a little bit of it, but she mostly just likes to play with the cup. I'm not planning on any juice any time soon.
