I am going to try pineapple, few days before my due date. Even if it doesn't work, it taste good and may give me an extra energy boost.

"Pineapple, mango, and kiwi contain en enzyme called bromelain that is supposed to work like a prostaglandin, ripening and softening the cervix. That enzyme is not present in canned pineapple, so you'll have to eat it fresh."

    Another story:
I ate pineapple and within a few minutes started feeling cramping. The next evening I ate a few more slices and my water broke that night and baby came quickly after arriving at hospital!

My doctor told me to start drinking it at 36 weeks along with taking evening primrose oil. I believe she said the tea helps with toning the uterus and the epo with my cervix. I've been drinking 2 cups a day and will be upping it to 3 cups starting Friday. I do get cramps but I had them before drinking the tea and I don't get them every day.

I read you have be careful with primrose oil. I guess some women take primrose oil to bring on labor.  The other day I saw on the baby story on TV, the woman took raspberry tea and the day she went into labor she drank castor oil.   She was a first time mom, give birth in tub at the hospital and it was super fast. That is one thing I will not take is castor oil. lol

My friend just gave birth to her DS2 a couple weeks ago. She told me to try castor oil when I'm full-term -- she took some, went into labor shortly after and popped him out in 3 hrs....and he was 9lbs 10oz. Sounds slightly tempting, but I really don't think even the prospect of being late could make me choke down that stuff...I will stick to the tea and maybe try EPO after 38 weeks! Castor oil side effects sound REALLY nasty, by all accounts.

    Hehehe..I read "pooped him out"

  • My MIL swears by it! She drank 2 cups a day through her entire pregnancy with all 3 of her kids and had 3 easy natural deliveries.  She even hiked 2 miles in the mountains the day she gave birth to my husband. Needless to say, I have started drinking it...and eating dates too.

I bought a huge, fresh pineapple the week before my due date and ate the whole thing by myself over a few days....nothing happened right away, but at least it tasted good! I'll probably do it again.

  • Neither evening primrose oil or red raspberry leaf will bring on labor.  They are said to help prep your uterus and cervix for labor.  Bromelain which is the enzyme found in pineapple core as mentioned above mimics the properties of prostaglandins which can cause contractions.  Bromelain is available in pill form and it is also a natural anti inflammatory.

I never heard of dates.  I just looked it up.

It says eat 6 dates per day, by 36 weeks. Suppose help to have a faster labor and they do this all around the world.

So I guess I better go out and buy dates.

As well, I am a second time mom.  So I am not as worried about trying new stuff.  I just want the labor be over fast, so I can take care of my 4year-old daughter, who still sleeps with me.
  • It's more beneficial if you start drinking it earlier but it's got quite a few health benefits. I started drinking it early on and have continued to do so post birth.

This is what my doctor said. That they (EPO and RRL tea) won't cause labor but help get my uterus and cervix ready.
  • I've been drinking it since second trimester hit. A cup a day...then when third tri hit, two cups a day. I'm supposed to be drinking more than that at this point...but I don't even like tea, so it's been an effort just to do it the days I have! I'm going to keep it up.

I'm a VBA2C hopeful over here - and not a single feeling of scar pain this entire pregnancy. It's supposed to help tone the muscle, and I've been feeling great, so hopefully that's it working all along and doing it's job!

It's also supposed to help contractions be more productive...who doesn't want that?! :)

  • Okay, I was wrong about the tea tasting like black licorice, that is the Mother's Milk tea I drank a ton of afterwards. I tried some of the Raspberry Leaf tea I had left over and it not too bad, FWIW, I don't think that it helped for me, but I don't think it hurt. I will drink some this time. I would be careful with the evening primrose oil and inserting it, I would only do it after 37 weeks because there has been some evidence showing a link between it and premature rupture of membrane. I think as long as you are following your Dr's or MW's directions it is safe, I wouldn't be jamming it up there all willy nilly though.

Had my first cup of raspberry tea today.  I made a big mug,  one tea bag, 14 oz water and honey.
I like the tea, taste like a weak cup of chamomile and peppermint mix together.  I have no problems drinking it.  Its been 5 hours and dont have no side effects yet.  Baby is moving a little more than normal, but thats about it to report.
  • I also just finished my very first cup of tea and I'm feeling more and more BH contractions! Baby is moving a lot. We shall see what happens.
  • I drank raspberry leaf tea from 32 weeks with my son. I don't know if it was because of the tea or just luck but I did have a very short second stage of labour (I only pushed 3 times and it was all over in less than 10 minutes). I haven't been able to get into town to buy any this time around though and at nearly 38 weeks I don't think there's much point now.

I guess if this labour is much longer then its my own fault for not getting hold of any!
