Raspberry Tea

Anyone doing raspberry tea? I am 36 1/2 and my tea should be here in a few days. I wanted to wait till I was 37 wks.  I want to drink it as well after the baby is born.
You may like to drink raspberry leaf tea after your baby is born. It's thought to:
  • boost your immune system, because of the vitamins and minerals it contains
  • help your uterus to shrink back to its pre-pregnant shape
  • fight infection, because it has antibacterial qualities

Re: Raspberry Tea

  • I find it SO random you posted this as I just started drinking it yesterday and was literally googling if the raspberry tea caused my INTENSE abnormal cramping last night, and you posted this.

    Bah!

  • That part kind of scares me.
But my mom drank raspberry tea with one of once and she said her labor was really fast. As well, my cousin who weighed 90 pounds before pregnancy drank raspberry tea and had fast labor and didn't even tear.

However, I have read other people's reviews online and have posted that they went into labor the next week.  And like you some post that they had bad cramping.

I think I'll try one cup and if I have bad side effects, I just save the tea until after she is born.
  • Yeah, I have decided to not have any tonight and see what happens and try again tomorrow. Figure out if it was a fluke or the tea. :)

  • Hey, is your due date Dec 15?
Anyways, I think next time if you try the tea, make it weak and drink half cup. Because I read before to drink only one cup the first week. Then make your way up to 2 to 3 cups per day.
  • I'm drinking one cup a day and will move to 2 a day at 37 weeks. I am being optimistic and hoping it shortens labor to be less than 30 hours it was last time.

  • I asked my OB about drinking it and she said she would prefer I not. She admits she doesn't know anything about it so she would feel safer if I didn't. Not really sure how I feel about her answer.
  • Jamrosj, have you had any side affects from the tea yet?  Booby19 said she had cramping.
  • heheh booby. and yes Dec 15.
    My midwife encouraged drinking it.

  • I think its more the midwives that think its ok.  Just like how we are not suppose to drink herbal teas.

  • I've been drinking it since last week at 37 weeks. One cup at night. It is yummy. Hope it helps!
  • I have been drinking it since 36 week just one cup a night but I haven't had any side effects. I may up it to 2 cups a day soon. Baby is breech though so I'm not too worried about short labor since I'll most likely have a c-section.
  • Sorry about the spelling booty 19!
I am going to try it. I dont have a midwife but I believe in benefits of herbs.
It worked for my mom, my granny and other family members.
My due date is 15th, but I think she will be here sooner.
  • I drank it with my other two. I had short labor with both and no stitches. I believe it helps. I started drinking it at 35 weeks.
  • I read the other night a lot women drink raspberry tea, when not pregnant for their periods. Helps them with issues and cramping.  So I think perhaps I should always have raspberry tea in my house.

I haven't heard of this! I do like raspberries. Is it a special tea, or any kind of raspberry flavored? Would fresh raspberries have the same effect?

I heard of eating them while sick because it helps boost the immune system and stuff, and recently I bought some amazing fresh sweet raspberries at a local grocery store and costco... So maybe I should stock up on them?

  • See I read that too, that you should drink it at least by 36 weeks.  That you need like 4 weeks for it to kick in. But then I did not want to take the chance having a baby at 37 weeks.  So I am glad to read about Crgardner post.

  • its made of raspberry leaves i believe. doesn't taste like raspberry. more earthy . reminded me of the tea you get at a chinese restaurant.

  • I drank the shit out of last time and I don't think it really helped any. I think it tastes disgusting. I tastes like black licorice to me. Bleck.

  • Traditional Medicinals Caffeine Free Organic Herbal Tea, Raspberry Leaf 16 bags, is what I just order online from drugstore, for 3.99.  I do not know what it taste like but it had great reviews.  I think probably best would be the raspberry leaves.  As well, I just wanted straight raspberry tea, some add other herbs to it. Amazon has huge selection of raspberry teas.

Nope, I've had BH the same as last pregnancy without the tea

  • My neighbor used it with her son and she said it worked for her. But raspberry LEAF, not just raspberry. I'll probably pick some up my next time at the store, will be 37 weeks this Saturday.

Last week I picked up the Pregnancy Tea by Traditional Medicinals....it's basically red raspberry leaf tea with one or two other things in it good for pregnancy/prepping your uterus for labor. I only have 1 cup a day and no odd effects (as in weird cramping, etc). Once I get past 37 weeks I may up it to 2 or even the 3 recommended cups a day. I think it tastes pretty good (slightly minty)

  • My doctor told me to start drinking it at 36 weeks along with taking evening primrose oil. I believe she said the tea helps with toning the uterus and the epo with my cervix. I've been drinking 2 cups a day and will be upping it to 3 cups starting Friday. I do get cramps but I had them before drinking the tea and I don't get them every day.
  • It needs to be red raspberry leaf tea. I found it at Target but it is cheaper online.
  • That's the one I ordered, coming tomorrow. Vande did you like the tea?
  • I drank so much of it last time, and I didn't notice it doing anything. I still had a very long labor and I tore badly. I'm hoping it might be different this time. But who knows if it will be related to the tea drinking or simply a stm thing. I do rather like the taste. I'm also trying the Yogi brand pregnancy tea, and I like the taste much better. I noticed some braxton-hicks when I tried it, though, so I'm holding off on that one until 37 weeks.

  • I have been drinking a homemade pregnancy tea that includes rrl since mid second tri. It is supposed to tone your uterus to help handle contractions. I drank it starting at 37 weeks last pregnancy and I am not sure if it was just coincidence but I didn't even feel contractions until I was in transition.
  • I'm 37 weeks and have been drinking it since 34 weeks. 4cups a day. Think I had one contraction 2 days after I started drinking it but nothing since. I had my checkup today and I'm not dilated at all yet. I'll still continue to drink it though!

I think the tea tastes fine. I think it has an earthy taste. It is not my favorite tea but it doesn't bother me. I have mixed it up with other teas like chamomile or cinnamon just to change it up.

  • That's what I have in the picture posted. There's no taste in my opinion.
  • I had read to start drinking it at 34 weeks (and told by my midwife SIL) to tone the uterus and did. Noticed some cramping started about that time and mentioned it to my OB. She told me to hold off until 37 weeks because it can bring about contractions in some.

I can't handle the taste of black licorice at all and really like the rrl tea. I ordered mine off Amazon, the brand is Buddha something.

  • I am sooo tempted to get some now. But I'm almost 37wks already. I don't think I want to order it online and wait for it to get here and end up already in labor haha. If I end up in a target or find it somewhere else in store, I think i'll go for it.

  • I read about one lady who made a thermos full of raspberry tea to take with her to hospital when she went into labor.  I don't think I'll do that, but I think I might have a extra cup of tea before I head to the hospital.   My mom said her labor went so fast that she didnt think she would have time enough to take her pants off when she got to the hospital. But then again my mom give birth 7 times, that explains a lot. lol

I read you have be careful with primrose oil. I guess some women take primrose oil to bring on labor.  The other day I saw on the baby story on TV, the woman took raspberry tea and the day she went into labor she drank castor oil.   She was a first time mom, give birth in tub at the hospital and it was super fast. That is one thing I will not take is castor oil. lol

I just picked up some evening primrose oil pills but I'm waiting until my appt today to ask my dr if it's ok to take. I read if you take one pill a day starting at 36 weeks it will slowly soften your cervix and help you dilate over the next few weeks. Supposedly after 38 weeks if you insert a capsule into your vag it quickly softens/dilates you (brings on labor) and is supposed to help so you don't tear as badly.

My friend just gave birth to her DS2 a couple weeks ago. She told me to try castor oil when I'm full-term -- she took some, went into labor shortly after and popped him out in 3 hrs....and he was 9lbs 10oz. Sounds slightly tempting, but I really don't think even the prospect of being late could make me choke down that stuff...I will stick to the tea and maybe try EPO after 38 weeks! Castor oil side effects sound REALLY nasty, by all accounts.
