I never intended to shake a bees nest, I thought the intention behind this thread was to get to know everyone a little bit better not completely slam individuals. I understand everyone is entitled to their own opinions and feelings. To answer a few questions that were asked, I am planning on homeschooling, so no your child won't be in school with mine. And yes I actually prayed about it, my faith and belief in Jesus is how I make all major and ethical decisions. I follow the convictions placed on my heart. It's not like I don't struggle with fear occasionally from all the decisions I make in my life and my children's lives. But I trust my God ultimately is in control and I have peace with that. I understand my choice is not a popular one, never thought it would be. My outlook like I stated before is I respect parents decisions for their children and family, we all just are trying to do what we as individuals feel is best.
No one is slamming YOU. But you are making a choice that puts other people at risk--and other people's children, other people's newborn babies, so you can't be surprised that people are going to disapprove of that choice.
I don't know, I think God gave us the intelligence to create modern medicine so that suffering could be prevented. I don't think He would want to see babies and children die needlessly of terrible diseases. I thought Jesus was about healing the sick, and I'm pretty sure there is nothing in the Bible arguing against vaccines. That's just me though. I am all about respecting other people's religious beliefs unless they infringe on my own family's rights and well-being, or those of other people. And in this case, your belief does exactly that.

I want to make sure I get my opinion out there since I guess everyone is calling out the people who are not vaccinating their children. We have chosen not to vaccinate our children based on moral/ religious convictions. There are a number of vaccines that were started by using aborted babies, and this for starters is a big red flag for me. Not to mention the list of chemicals that are in the vaccines. Yes I have educated myself, done research, talked to multiple doctors who are pro vaccine, read many things from the cdc. It ultimately came down to my husband and I praying about it, and feeling convicted about risking our children's life. Yes the chances of a horrible reaction to a vaccine are not huge but like my pro vaccine doctor told me " I can't guarantee your child won't be the one in a million, so every parent must make the difficult choice with out pressure from a medical professional or society" . I think putting people down for having an unpopular opinion for such a tough subject is low, I believe all of us would say we want to do the best thing possible for our children. I believe we should all respect one another choices as parents, even if we don't always agree!
Could you please enlighten us as to which vaccinations were 'started' by using aborted babies?

Did anyone forsee this thread actually going well?
I suppose it's possible- we could be the first BMB in history to have a civil duscussion about the hot button topics.
Nope. But I still think it's worth the effort.
Well chances are these discussions were going to come out eventually.
And actually I'm pleasantly surprised, this could be going a lot worse.

So you're going to risk MY child's life???????? FFS. I'm really sorry I came back to this thread this morning because now I'm pissed. You want to pray about it? You want to leave it to GOD to protect your kid?!?! Great. Knock yourself out. But please ask yourself this question:
How fucking MORAL is it to put not only your child's life, but the lives of all the children around him/her at risk or serious illness or death from something that CAN BE PREVENTED?!?!
This 100%. I think there are great times to finds answers by pray but deciding not to vaccinate because you prayed about it?! C'mon. And great that you're homeschooling......but will you never take your kid to the park, a play date, out for dinner, to the library??
The vaccines to which I was referring to contain MRC-5 and WI-35 , these include MMR, hep A, rabies, varicella, there are a few more on this list from the cdc here is the link
https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/excipient-table-2.pdf
And for the record i wanted to give my children the DTaP vaccine infanrix brand, unfortunately they are not making that one right now, however if it does become available I will be giving that to my child. That specific vaccine has the least amount of ingredients I'm opposed to.
Again, I fail to understand the logic in refusing to use vaccines made from two or three aborted fetuses decades ago, and therefore putting at risk the lives of countless children and unborn babies alive right now, today. The vaccines grown from those cell lines have prevented far more child deaths, miscarriages and abortions than the two fetal deaths they were derived from, and neither fetus was aborted for the purpose of making a vaccine. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bathwater (pun intended).
Even the Vatican says that it is better to use those vaccines than put children's lives at risk. And you can't get much more anti-abortion than them.

It simply comes down to my conscience and my convictions, I'm not catholic so the Vatican has no influence on my life. I can't in good conscience stand behind something that was started using aborted babies, regardless of how long ago it was done.

I really hope your conscience has something to say about the fact that your stance on vaccinations could end another child's life.
I promise you if an unvaccinated child infected my daughter and she died I would spend the rest of my life until I had no breath left in my body fighting for that child's parents to be convincted of manslaughter if not murder.

Exactly what I was going to say.
@bethanyharvel I'm sorry but your decision not to vaccinate is reckless and completely immoral. Do you have no moral compass of your own?? If not I'm so sorry for you, because the Bible has so many conflicting doctrines it must be exhausting to try to figure out the "right" one. I don't pray but if I did, I would pray that God grace you with a mind of your own.
P.S. I'm not talking to all religious people. Just the ones who follow scripture blindly, pick and choose what to follow, and then blame their bad decisions on God.

I'm not saying you should follow the Vatican for religious reasons. But when one of the world's greatest crusaders against abortion says it costs too many human lives to refuse vaccines even when they originated with aborted fetal tissue, then maybe that is something worth considering again.
Sorry but I don't think your stance is about protecting the lives of the unborn at all. Because if that was really your concern, then you'd get your kids vaccinated. Rubella harmed hundreds of unborn babies every year in the US before the vaccine was introduced. In 1963-1964 alone, 20,000 babies were born sick with congenital rubella disease, over 6000 babies were miscarried due to rubella, and another 5000 aborted because of it. Tens of thousands of babies were stillborn in the 1960s due to rubella. The only reason that no longer happens today is because of vaccines. You are potentially contributing to more abortions and fetal deaths occurring by refusing vaccines. With all due respect, that is not pro-life.

Well let's just all hope there isn't a MMR outbreak in your community. Otherwise you will be praying to god you child recovers/stays uninfected. (And to be clear I don't wish this on anyone) I just think it is very foolish not to vaccinate. More than foolish, I think you are neglecting your responsibility to keep your child safe and his or her best interest in mind. That's my own personal opinion.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable 2. Med free or Epi? Repeat c-section, so Epi and morphine 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Pink/blue, I am too much of planner to not know.
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? I think yes but we won't really decide until we know boy or girl 6. Vaccines? Yes Yes Yes 7. Baby wearing? some 8. Bed sharing? probably some 9. Breastfeeding? Yes 10. Pacifier? I hope not, my DD didn't so I am hoping this one won't. I just don't want to deal with the weaning. But if it saves my life then yes. I am mostly all about what makes life the easiest and makes for a happy baby and family especially when I am sleep deprived.

There was a measles outbreak this summer here in the DFW area that was brought to a local church by someone who was a missionary visiting from another country. They had the measles and spread it to people in the church. All of the children who caught the measles were unvaccinated, homeschooled children.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? I use cloth most of the time with DS and I will again with this baby.
2. Med free or Epi? I guess I'll see how it goes, but I think an epi. I had planned natural the last time, but changed my mind.
3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital. With DS, I got a high fever and needed antibiotics, they needed to use forceps since he didn't want to budge, and I had velamentious (sp?) cord insertion so there could have been issues. The one that happened was that the placenta detached from the cord after delivery, broke into three pieces, and had to be removed manually.
4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Team green again
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? DS was circumcised. My husband has a friend who was born outside the U.S. who was not circumcised at birth who elected to have the procedure done as an adult. It was apparently as painful as we all think it would be.
6. Vaccines? Definitely.
7. Baby wearing? I used a Moby with DS and probably will more with this baby since I'll have DS to take care of
8. Bed sharing? I'm not planning on it. I got DS used to his crib pretty early on and haven't had too many sleep issues.
I'm not trying persuade anyone of anything here, and I'm not going to post on this thread because it's just gonna end in us going around in circles. It's obvious we don't agree and I'm fine with leaving it at that
I am amazed as a second time mom how many things I am undecided about.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Both 2. Med free or Epi? C section so definitely mess. 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Undecided
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? No, but I will share the sofa 9. Breastfeeding? Yes 10. Pacifier? Undecided
1. Cloth 2. Whatever works 3. Hospital 4. Team Pink/Blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision - no idea! 6. Vaccines - absolutely 7. Baby wearing - yes, but I have bad feet so not as much as I'd like 8. Bed sharing - not for us 9. Breastfeeding - yes 10. Pacifier - DD didn't use one but not opposed to them.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Hopefully both! 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Pink/blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? NO WAY! 9. Breastfeeding? Yes 10. Pacifier? Yes
Without taking sides here I just want to point out that we DID ask for people's opinions so it's not really fair to ask and then condemn someone for their answer. Healthy debate yes, but not outright shaming. IMO.
I didn't want to get into this, but I'm starting to get pissed off. My mom is a polio survivor. She caught the disease one year before the vaccine was developed. Her leg is paralyzed and she gets weaker every year from post polio syndrome, and is now wheelchair bound. She used to go to support groups, and she's now one of the few survivors in her group. So I'm sorry, I will not just "agree to disagree." Not vaccinating is irresponsible. I wouldn't wish what my mom had gone through on my worst enemy.
Man this thread is much calmer than I would have expected.
I will say though that people who don't vaccinate are idiots. Yes idiots and I won't retract that statement. Did you go to medical school? Did you study vaccines? No? Okay then how about you stop making medical decision based off your google searches. Get your kid vaccinated.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Cloth 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? We will find out as soon as possible. I am a control freak and like to plan ahead. I hear there's a blood test now that takes the place of the triple scan and that you can find out gender at that point, too, early on, like 10 weeks? If I can find out then, I will.
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Oh, hell yes. 7. Baby wearing? Sometimes 8. Bed sharing? Oh, hell no. 9. Breastfeeding? Yes, but OK with supplementing with formula if we need to. BF-ing does not have to be an all or nothing choice, IMO. We did a combo with DS and I nursed him til he was 1, supplementing since around 3 months for my sanity. 10. Pacifier? Yes
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable 2. Med free or Epi? Epi all the way 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital we don't have birth centers here 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue?Team green
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision?no 6. Vaccines? yes 7. Baby wearing?sometimes 8. Bed sharing?no 9. Breastfeeding?yes 10. Pacifier?yes
his or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Cloth again 2. Med free or Epi? Probably Epi. Most did not progress until I got it 30 something hours in last time. 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital is my only option. I'm jut hoping for the base hospital and not the Italian one. 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Pink/blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Probably not 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? Would like to avoid. We'll see 9. Breastfeeding? Yes again 10. Pacifier? Undecided DD didn't get one but found her thumb at 9 weeks and never wanted a paci after.
Without taking sides here I just want to point out that we DID ask for people's opinions so it's not really fair to ask and then condemn someone for their answer. Healthy debate yes, but not outright shaming. IMO.
Apparently you can't participate in all threads anymore unless you agree with everyone. ::shrugs::
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital, esp since DS was taken to the NICU, I could see him when I wanted 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Team Pink/Blue... its a surprise if you find out at 5 months or at birth.
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? yes 6. Vaccines? yes 7. Baby wearing? eh, didn't do it as much the first pregnancy 8. Bed sharing? no 9. Breastfeeding? tried it, wasn't for us 10. Pacifier? DS took one maybe for 2 weeks. Otherwise he refused it.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Both...hospital has birthing center 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? pink/blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? yes 6. Vaccines? yes 7. Baby wearing? um...i guess...didn't get this one 8. Bed sharing? no 9. Breastfeeding? if i can (my mom didn't produce any milk with me...not sure if it's a genetic thing or not but boobs are huge and they hurt....) 10. Pacifier?
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable, we tried cloth but it didn't work for me. I'll try again with #2 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Birthing center 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? pink/blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Very strong NO but I'm not preachy. I don't care what other people do with their kids. For me, it's never something I would do to my kid. 6. Vaccines? Yes. This is the one topic that I do care what people do with their kids. 7. Baby wearing? Yes, I still wear by 2 1/2 year old 8. Bed sharing? Yes, it's fantastic for breastfeeding moms. On the other hand, we just moved our daughter out of our bed and it's pretty nice to have a good nights sleep! 9.
Breastfeeding? Yes, if you can. It hurts at first for most but it's easy and great. 10. Pacifier? No
1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable. I do not have the time for cloth diapers, and there are no services here. 2. Med free or Epi? Med free, first because I have back trouble enough already, second because I look at childbirth as another mountain to climb. Some of it is going to suck and suck hard, but the accomplishment is worth it. 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital is the only option in my neck of the woods. I live close though, so I plan to labor at home until the last possible moment. 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Team I wanna know but don't care which I get.
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? I'd sleep on the poor sprout, so no. 9. Breastfeeding? yes 10. Pacifier? yes
Just curious where you stand so I can figure out who to be nice to.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable 2. Med free or Epi? Med Free 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Pink/Blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Undecided 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? When convienient 8. Bed sharing? No 9. Breastfeeding? Yes 10. Pacifier? Yes

WRT to the whole aborted fetal cells thing. Yes, this is true, sort of. The rubella vaccine is grown using cells from a fetus that was aborted for medical reasons in the 1960s. The pregnancy was terminated because the baby was infected with rubella, which could cause serious birth defects and health problems, and the virus was isolated from that baby's cells in order to make the vaccine. Let's be clear here, that vaccine is made to keep unborn babies healthy, to prevent today's babies from getting sick the way that baby in the 1960s was. It seems insane to me to put today's babies at risk of brain damage and other serious health problems just because you have a problem with a medically indicated abortion that took place 50 years ago. Whether you agree or not with that abortion, it is done. It happened. You can't bring that baby back. But you can take steps to protect the life and health of babies today by getting kids vaccinated against rubella. That's the more "pro-life" choice in my opinion.
If you don't vaccinate your children and you don't have a medical reason, no I am not obligated to respect that choice. I do not respect that choice. You are putting your children and other members of society, including newborn babies, kids and adults with cancer, pregnant women and many others at risk for serious illness. I do not respect that.
Iris, I could NOT have said this better. Thank you so much.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Mostly cloth, disposable for travel. 2. Med free or Epi? Would love to go med free, will try as hard as I can. Got an epi with DS after 40 hrs, but now that I've been through it I have a better idea of how to manage and get through it 3. Birth Center or Hospital? I only have 1 hospital as an option with my current health clinic, and it's where DS was born and I didn't love it. Oh, well. 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Finding out.
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? No way. 6. Vaccines? Yes. I find it very hard to understand how anyone thinks not vaccinating is a good idea (unless there's a compelling medical reason not to). 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? Yes, in a co-sleeper. DS never had a crib, went from co-sleeper to his twin bed. LOVED having him close for nighttime nursing. 9. Breastfeeding? Absolutely. Just weaned DS a couple weeks ago! PS Totally agree with PP who said it's not all or nothing. When DS started daycare my supply fell a little short, so we supplemented with formula. Baby's gotta eat! 10. Pacifier? Sure. It's a great tool for soothing. DS had no trouble giving it up just before 2nd birthday.
Everyone has pretty much said anything I'd want to say regarding vaccines. I'm pretty much live and let live, but not when a decision potentially has such a devastating impact on other children/families. Not vaccinating is incredibly irresponsible.

10. Pacifier? I hope not, my DD didn't so I am hoping this one won't. I just don't want to deal with the weaning. But if it saves my life then yes. I am mostly all about what makes life the easiest and makes for a happy baby and family especially when I am sleep deprived.
9. Breastfeeding? Yes, I'm still breastfeeding DS

Yes
6. Vaccines? Oh, hell yes.
7. Baby wearing? Sometimes
10. Pacifier? Yes
1. Cloth or Disposable? Cloth again
2. Med free or Epi? Probably Epi. Most did not progress until I got it 30 something hours in last time.

This thread ASKED for opinions, not a pissing war.
Apparently you can't participate in all threads anymore unless you agree with everyone. ::shrugs::
1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable
2. Med free or Epi? Epi
3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital, esp since DS was taken to the NICU, I could see him when I wanted

10. Pacifier?
1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable, we tried cloth but it didn't work for me. I'll try again with #2
2. Med free or Epi? Epi
3. Birth Center or Hospital? Birthing center
Yes, I still wear by 2 1/2 year old
8. Bed sharing? Yes, it's fantastic for breastfeeding moms. On the other hand, we just moved our daughter out of our bed and it's pretty nice to have a good nights sleep!
9. Breastfeeding? Yes, if you can. It hurts at first for most but it's easy and great.
10. Pacifier? No
Yes
6. Vaccines? Yes
7. Baby wearing? Yes
8. Bed sharing? I'd sleep on the poor sprout, so no.
9. Breastfeeding? yes
10. Pacifier? yes
1. Cloth or Disposable? Mostly cloth, disposable for travel.
2. Med free or Epi? Would love to go med free, will try as hard as I can. Got an epi with DS after 40 hrs, but now that I've been through it I have a better idea of how to manage and get through it
Yes
