This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Cloth, though I do use disposables at night. By "I", mean DD. 2. Med free or Epi? Gimme the drugs! 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital.... with a MW, if that makes it sound crunchier... 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? We would like to know ahead of time, if baby cooperates.
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Yes. 7. Baby wearing? Yeah, until they are too heavy. Which is like... 6 months for me haha. 8. Bed sharing? Bedshared with DD from 3 to 7 months 9. Breastfeeding? I hope to be able to nurse LO2. DD has been breastfed for a year now. Plan on going until my supply ends with this pregnancy, or 18 months... whichever comes first. 10. Pacifier? DD uses one. I hope to avoid it with our next, simply because I am having a hard time figuring out how to wean DD of it.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Team Pink/Blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? Maybe? 8. Bed sharing? Yes 9. Breastfeeding? Yes 10. Pacifier? No
@cyndelgrace
Fair enough, that was a little harsh of me to write initially.
Thanks for saying that. I think it's important for families to make an educated choice and clearly we can agree on that at least. I do understand the logic from both sides and work with families on both sides of the fence and the ones straddling the damn thing just trying to do what they think is best.
This is why I prefer an alternate schedule. I believe in vaccination. I believe in herd immunity. But, my son has reactions to vaccines so I've chosen to make sure that he doesn't get more than one vaccine at once. He was given the most critical vaccinations first (from the standpoint of his health and the health of other infants) At this point he is fully vax'd and I feel good that we did the best we could to fulfill our community obligation and protect him. Obviously this isn't for everyone but it was a good solution for us.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Team pink/blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes with DS. On the fence about it if this baby is a boy. 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? Yes 9. Breastfeeding? Yes 10. Pacifier? Depends on whether he/she wants a paci.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable for me personally, but I don't give a shit what others do. 2. Med free or Epi? I had a c/s, and I loved it. I don't have a strong opinion about birth methods. Just get the child out of you. 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital for me personally. 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Green is awesome, I just don't have it in me to wait that long. We found out last time, and we'll find out this time as well.
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Don't have an opinion 6. Vaccines? YES - Probably the only thing on this stupid list I have a strong opinion on. 7. Baby wearing? 24-7 baby wearing? Whatever, as long as it isn't me doing the wearing. I used my Ergo a lot, but I wouldn't classify it as baby wearing. 8. Bed sharing? Not for me, but I don't have an overall opinion on it. 9. Breastfeeding? I don't care what you feed your baby, just don't starve the thing, and make sure you're not feeding it crack. My daughter was given breast milk for 10 months. I don't really care one way or the other on this. 10. Pacifier? My daughter used one for 18 months. If it brings your baby comfort, I'm all for it. I personally believe that nipple confusion is a myth.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? A combo - cloth at home, disposable away 2. Med free or Epi? Today, I say med free, but being that I have no idea what I am getting myself in to, I'm not anti epi. 3. Birth Center or Hospital?Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Green all the way!!
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? I really haven't researched this yet, so I am not sure 6. Vaccines? Unless medically indicated not to (we have a genetic condition in our family where the immune system does not work properly. My brother got measles, polio and such FROM the vaccines. We will likely be doing an altered schedule and no live vaccines due to this. This is what was done with me to prevent me from getting all the illnesses that they are "protecting" babies from.) 7. Baby wearing? To some extent, but not obsessively 8. Bed sharing?I vote no. But who knows what will happen 9. Breastfeeding? That's the plan! I hope to 10. Pacifier? Depends on the kid
@Cyndelgrace I completely disagree with you but I do respect you for defending your POV. I was wondering if anyone would, or just slink quietly out of the thread after learning they were in the minority on this issue.
Side note, there's nobody here who still thinks vaccines are linked to autism, is there? Because as someone who has worked in the special needs field I can tell you that has been debunked.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? cloth 2. Med free or Epi? want to try med-free but will do epi if I need to or decide I just can't go on 3. Birth Center or Hospital? hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Judging by other posters I've concluded that this means finding out gender... so Team Pink/Blue but I don't like either color
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? For sure, maybe delayed schedule 7. Baby wearing? yes 8. Bed sharing? no 9. Breastfeeding? yes 10. Pacifier? yes
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Cloth at home and sposies if needed for travel or DC. 2. Med free or Epi? Repeat C-section here, but otherwise I don't care. 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital. I had the most amazing nurses. 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Pink/Blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? You're damn tootin. (I will add, I have a friend who's son had a liver transplant who is not able to be vaccinated so he relies on the vaccination of others to stay healthy) 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? It works for us. I'm going to need a bigger bed though! 9. Breastfeeding? Yes, it's free, readily available and already warm! 10. Pacifier? Only if baby needs it for soothing. DD used it for 18 months then we got rid of it so as to not disfigure her teeth.
I too cannot believe how many people have said they will not vaccinate their children. Except for a few exceptions, I find it highly irresponsible to not vaccinate. Everything else on this list I would be fine with yes or no, but no to vaccines??
This or that's...
1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable
2. Med free or Epi? Spinal.....c-section
3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital
4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Pink or blue
Yes or no's...
5. Circumcision? Yes
6. Vaccines? Absolutely
7. Baby wearing? If needed
8. Bed sharing? Not for us
9. Breastfeeding? Will try again....unsuccessful with two so far
10. Pacifier? If needed.
Disposables
Epi
Hospital
Definitely finding out
Both boys are circ'ed, so yes
Yes to vaccines
Didn't wear ds1 at all, did with ds2 occasionally when out, prob will do about the same with this one--just when convenient
No bed sharing, may do rnp for a couple weeks, or straight to crib
I've bf both boys through their first year, and plan to do the same
Neither ds has taken a pack, but I'm not against using one for sleep only for a couple of months. I think too many people use them as a crutch when their baby is crying instead of trying to soothe them or figure out what's wrong. I know not everyone does this, but I hate to see it.
1. Cloth or Disposable? Cloth, I can't afford disposables. I have lots of learning to do. 2. Med free or Epi? Med free. 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Green!
5. Circumcision? I say absolutely not , S/O wants matching penis' for some reason. 6. Vaccines? Yes!!! 7. Baby wearing? Yes 8. Bed sharing? Yes and maybe use one of those co sleepers. 9. Breastfeeding? I hope, I can't afford formula. 10. Pacifier? I didn't know pacifiers were such a big deal ?! Babies suckle, give them a bink! Jeez...
IF YOU DO NOT VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN YOU ARE A MORON.

TTC since March 2013. BFP 4/13/13, blighted ovum discovered 6/6/13, m/c 6/8/13.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? Cloth at home or when grandmas are watching them, disposable when at daycare or church 2. Med free or Epi? Med free. 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Birthing center inside a really great hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Hoping for green but I'm already impatient to know so we'll see when the time comes )
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Probably but unsure still. 6. Vaccines? Haven't done any research yet but probably 7. Baby wearing? Yes! 8. Bed sharing? No 9. Breastfeeding? Yes! I'm all about it. 10. Pacifier? I don't see why not but they'll be weaned off of it by 2 or 3
I want to make sure I get my opinion out there since I guess everyone is calling out the people who are not vaccinating their children. We have chosen not to vaccinate our children based on moral/ religious convictions. There are a number of vaccines that were started by using aborted babies, and this for starters is a big red flag for me. Not to mention the list of chemicals that are in the vaccines. Yes I have educated myself, done research, talked to multiple doctors who are pro vaccine, read many things from the cdc. It ultimately came down to my husband and I praying about it, and feeling convicted about risking our children's life. Yes the chances of a horrible reaction to a vaccine are not huge but like my pro vaccine doctor told me " I can't guarantee your child won't be the one in a million, so every parent must make the difficult choice with out pressure from a medical professional or society" . I think putting people down for having an unpopular opinion for such a tough subject is low, I believe all of us would say we want to do the best thing possible for our children. I believe we should all respect one another choices as parents, even if we don't always agree!

No one would care what your choice is.... Except your choice to not vaccinate puts my kids at risk. So yes, I have a hard time respecting that choice.

I'll probably leave it up to DH if necessary. 6. Vaccines? Yes, on the recommended schedule. 7. Baby wearing? Yes, though DD didn't like it. Hoping baby #2 will be more into it? 8. Bed sharing? No, though I'm somewhat more open to it this time around. I think there are safe ways to do it, but I also think I'm too nervous of a person to ever get any sleep with an infant in my bed. 9. Breastfeeding? As much as possible. I had a rough time with supply the first time around. 10. Pacifier? DD didn't like the pacifier much so it was never an issue. I think it's fine and even useful for babies, but I would want to break the habit by 6 months- 1 year.

You realize that you're saying your odds are 1 in a million that something will go wrong with the vaccine, but your odds are BETTER that your children will get one of the viruses that vaccines prevent?
2012 there were 48,277 cases of whopping cough.
Your logic and decision making process is flawed and wrong, and puts my child at risk.

So you're going to risk MY child's life???????? FFS. I'm really sorry I came back to this thread this morning because now I'm pissed. You want to pray about it? You want to leave it to GOD to protect your kid?!?! Great. Knock yourself out. But please ask yourself this question:
How fucking MORAL is it to put not only your child's life, but the lives of all the children around him/her at risk or serious illness or death from something that CAN BE PREVENTED?!?!

While it's definitely true that we are all trying to do the best for our children, this is definitely a topic that is not the same as breast feeding/formula feeding or bed sharing/not. As many many PPs have already said, your choice to not vax can directly affect the choices the rest of us have made about how to parent our children. Will you be sending your child to daycare or school? Because at that point, your decision has become one that is not the best thing possible for our children. Your religious freedom has now infringed on everyone else's freedoms.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? We do both. Cloth during the day and disposable at night. 2. Med free or Epi? Epi 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Team Pink/Blue
Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? Sure 8. Bed sharing? No 9. Breastfeeding? Yes 10. Pacifier? Our DS never took one. We will have to see how the new LO does. I am not against them but I won't introduce until after we have established BFing.

WRT to the whole aborted fetal cells thing. Yes, this is true, sort of. The rubella vaccine is grown using cells from a fetus that was aborted for medical reasons in the 1960s. The pregnancy was terminated because the baby was infected with rubella, which could cause serious birth defects and health problems, and the virus was isolated from that baby's cells in order to make the vaccine. Let's be clear here, that vaccine is made to keep unborn babies healthy, to prevent today's babies from getting sick the way that baby in the 1960s was. It seems insane to me to put today's babies at risk of brain damage and other serious health problems just because you have a problem with a medically indicated abortion that took place 50 years ago. Whether you agree or not with that abortion, it is done. It happened. You can't bring that baby back. But you can take steps to protect the life and health of babies today by getting kids vaccinated against rubella. That's the more "pro-life" choice in my opinion.
If you don't vaccinate your children and you don't have a medical reason, no I am not obligated to respect that choice. I do not respect that choice. You are putting your children and other members of society, including newborn babies, kids and adults with cancer, pregnant women and many others at risk for serious illness. I do not respect that.

The only way I would respect non-vaxing is if they all decided to go live in a compound together, isolated from "vaxing society". That way, your decision wouldn't affect my children, and I wouldn't give a crap what you did.
The only reason you can even make the choice not to vax is because the majority of us do. So be careful how convincing your arguments are, ladies. If you sway too many of us, we're all screwed.

Yep. This is one of the things that annoys me most about people who don't vax (to be clear, I am not talking about people with medical reasons not to vaccinate). The only reason you can make the argument that the risks of vaccines outweigh the chance of your child catching those diseases is because the rest of us vaccinate our kids. Parents who don't vax think vaccines are too dangerous for their precious, but rely on the rest of us to keep exposing our children to the alleged harms of vaccines to keep their own kids safe. It means reaping the benefits of herd immunity without contributing in turn. IMO that is completely selfish.

@bethanyharvel I honestly want to know if you prayed about the risk you would be putting on other children. I am Catholic and as pro life as it gets but as Iris said, the fetus was already aborted. They did not abort the fetus with the purpose of making the vaccine. What's the issue? Oh that's right, there isn't one.
Next up, your doctor. Biglewzer covered that well. 1 in a million something will go wrong with the vaccine vs. the very real possibility of your child or another child catching the whooping cough or worse.
The only way I would respect non-vaxing is if they all decided to go live in a compound together, isolated from "vaxing society". That way, your decision wouldn't affect my children, and I wouldn't give a crap what you did.

YES YES YES 100X YES. That's why that Blossom lady never speaks out against vaccines. She wants her kids protected by herd immunity. Jenny McCarthy is just an idiot.
This or that's... 1. Cloth or Disposable? I can really go either way, may do both. 2. Med free or Epi? If this is anything like my DD epi it is!! 3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital, no birth centers around that I know of. 4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? All of the above! As long as they are cute. Yes or no's... 5. Circumcision? Yes 6. Vaccines? Yes 7. Baby wearing? I am not sure really, this is a new concept for me. 8. Bed sharing? Yes! 9. Breastfeeding? I will give it a good shot again, DD didn't ever take to it. 10. Pacifier? If it is soothing yes but I won't make them take it if it's not doing any good.
Did anyone forsee this thread actually going well?
I suppose it's possible- we could be the first BMB in history to have a civil duscussion about the hot button topics.

Oh I never answered the questions. Here, you all can decide if you still want to talk to me:
1. Cloth or Disposable? I'm probably still going to have a toddler in diapers and I don't know if we'll have our own washing machine when this little is born, so I'm pretty sure we will do disposables. I still have all our old cloth diapers though.
2. Med free or Epi? I've done it both ways. I would like to try and go med-free again but I'm going to wait and see how my labor goes and decide then. But my new hospital allows water births, even for VBAC, so that's a plus.
3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital
4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Team Show Me Your Junk Baby. I don't want a surprise.
5. Circumcision? No
6. Vaccines? F*ck yeah, in case you couldn't tell from my other responses here
7. Baby wearing? Yes, baby wearing worked really well with my other kids, and since I will have two older ones to deal with, it will be nice to have my hands free.
8. Bed sharing? Yes, I'm lazy. Bring the kid to bed, pop a boob in its mouth, fall asleep. Voila!
9. Breastfeeding? Yes, I breastfed my other too (actually um my 2 year old still nurses, need to work on that) so I plan to do it with this one too.
10. Pacifier? We'll see. Both my other kids rejected pacis so I'm not hopeful for this one.

THIS. 1000 times this. Not vaccinating your child is a completely selfish self serving thing to do. And the ONLY reason you can make this decision is because the rest of us are responsible enough to do the right thing.
IMO I don't care what your religious or ethical beliefs are: go live in a non vaccinating colony. Have one good outbreak of measels or mumps decimate your children and you'll be clamoring for a vaccine.
The reason I am so passionate about this is because my dad nearly died twice first from measels then from mumps. Mumps took his hearing in one ear. The vaccine was released shortly after. You ask him if he'd have any of his children or grandchildren go unvaccinated. No he never would. But people are so spoiled by the responsibility of the last few generations they have no clue what the real ramifications of these diseases are.

@bethanyharvel What do you think about this article? This couple is being charged in the death of their second child (8 month old with pneumonia) who died because they believe in the power of prayer over medical care. Personally, I think as a US Citizen you have a right to your religion up until it infringes upon someone else's rights. I'm not a legal expert any way you look at it, but I think that the baby's rights were violated.
So I feel like your decision infringes upon my rights and I'm (rightfully, I think) pissed about it.
Did anyone forsee this thread actually going well?
I suppose it's possible- we could be the first BMB in history to have a civil duscussion about the hot button topics.

8. Bed sharing? Bedshared with DD from 3 to 7 months
9. Breastfeeding? I hope to be able to nurse LO2. DD has been breastfed for a year now. Plan on going until my supply ends with this pregnancy, or 18 months... whichever comes first.

1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable

6. Vaccines? Yes
7. Baby wearing? Yes
8. Bed sharing? Yes
9. Breastfeeding? Yes

1. Cloth or Disposable? Disposable for me personally, but I don't give a shit what others do.

3. Birth Center or Hospital? Hospital for me personally.
4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Green is awesome, I just don't have it in me to wait that long. We found out last time, and we'll find out this time as well.
Yes or no's...
5. Circumcision? Don't have an opinion
1. Cloth or Disposable? A combo - cloth at home, disposable away
2. Med free or Epi? Today, I say med free, but being that I have no idea what I am getting myself in to, I'm not anti epi.

4. Team Green or Team Pink/Blue? Green all the way!!
Yes or no's...
5. Circumcision? I really haven't researched this yet, so I am not sure
6. Vaccines? Unless medically indicated not to (we have a genetic condition in our family where the immune system does not work properly. My brother got measles, polio and such FROM the vaccines. We will likely be doing an altered schedule and no live vaccines due to this. This is what was done with me to prevent me from getting all the illnesses that they are "protecting" babies from.)
7. Baby wearing? To some extent, but not obsessively
8. Bed sharing? I vote no. But who knows what will happen
9. Breastfeeding? That's the plan! I hope to

5. Circumcision? Undecided. I can see both sides...
1. Cloth or Disposable? We do both. Cloth during the day and disposable at night.

Okay, that's settled. Get your kid vaccinated.
