My UO : I would LOVE for my MIL or my own mother to be as forthcoming with offers to watch LO as I see from ladies here. My mom actually tried to get out of coming to stay with us while H was gone hunting. And I also love when people (that I know. Not strangers) want to hold my baby. I'm with her 24/7. Please, hold my baby for 5 mins.

Dude i am right there with you.

  • My ILs are coming this weekend. MIL sent an e-mail telling me to "pump those tatas" so she can babysit and we can all go to the movies. Then said "I'm so excited for some alone time with my boy!!!!!!!". Ugh. I've only left the baby 3 times, and each time he was with DH. Three and a half months later, I'm not ready to leave him yet. Especially not to go to the movies JUST to give MIL alone time with the baby.

Could someone please explain to me the phenomenon of MILs wanting alone time with our LOs.  IT BLOWS MY MIND.  Seriously, why do you need alone time?
Pretty sure it's so they can feed them rice cereal and ice cream. ;-)

You might be trying to make a joke, but with my MIL I wouldn't doubt it.

"I just wanted to give him his first taste of ice cream!"

I have the MIL that actually did this. No shit. 8 weeks old and gave her ice cream. Yup I freaked and haven't seen them since.

If my kid does it, it's ok. But when my sister or an adult does it it drives me bonkers. Hungry..."ungy," just say the "H."
  • This is bad I know... Flame Away!!

MIL has had the flu for 2 weeks. I truly hate that she's sick and hope she gets better soon. BUT.... It sure has been peaceful on the homefront knowing that she's sick and can't come visit.

It's like your speaking a different language and I can't make out what you're saying :-t
I used the totally wrong word there... I'm not at peace that she's sick. Hmm... I'm just glad that she hasn't visited.

Back story... DH has been home with LO for 4 weeks and she couldn't wait until I went back to work so she could go over there all the time. I still havent forgiven the fact that she put LO in her Halloween outfit and took pictures before I had a chance to even see her in the outfit... Part of it my mother made. And when she asked me for my email so I could approve pics for FB. I gave her my email and she never sent any... She posted on FB without my approval. DH doesn't understand that she crosses the line which is why I'm glad she's unable to visit while I'm at work and can't be there to referee.

I only own 2 downloaded songs, and my DH bought them for me. All my other music is off of actual CDs I own. I still believe in "albums" and I believe that artists organize the music in a way, for a certain experience. With bands I love I want to have the "intended" experience. I have always loved listening to a full album for the first time.

DH has tons of downloaded music that I listen to all the time. I just still love the art involved in creating a group of songs, in a specific period of time to go together.

Since we moved to "the country" I feel like my friends have become really "white-bread". I love them and they are good people, but I miss my tattooed, pierced, punk, performance art, in a band, artistic, alternative, offbeat, bohemian lifestyle friends a lot. We live very far apart now and visits are few and far between. Facebook and Skype just aren't the same.

My MIL always offers to change LO because they get alone time. I don't get it. My mother never seeks alone time.

  • Since we are somewhat on the topic of sleep here's my confession: I have no intentions of putting E to bed before 9pm for a long time. I work 8-6, and by the time I get home and get my milk put away and everything unpacked it's almost 7. If I put him to bed at 7:30/8:00 the only interaction I'd get is when I'm feeding him and I couldn't do that. I need that time to be with my boy. It's hard enough when I get home and he naps until 7:30 :(

  • @HauntedRadio I trust my 16 year old niece to watch LO over MIL.

She doesn't smoke. Isn't constantly sick. Doesn't try to feed my LO water. Won't intrude in the closet. Let's baby sleep.

I beg for her to come over. Lol

I feel the same way about others holding my baby...it just gets under my skin when specifically my mil or sil take him out of my arms without asking. Everyone else asks to hold him or I ask if they want to. My mil came up to me and took my son while I was feeding him. I think next time I will just have to tell her off.

  • My FFFC- I get annoyed when my DH complains that he misses LO while he works. When he comes home he doesn't make an effort to hold her or take over the night time feeding on a regular basis. I have put her to bed every night this week. I feel like he needs to take advantage of the time he does see her and he doesn't.

  • DH has ordered both a PS 4 and an Xbox one. Today we had the "you can't play video games like you used to because you have a baby now" conversation. I get that he plays video games to unwind from his work but last night he was in tears because he doesn't feel like her spends enough time with us because of work but when he is home on the weekends all he does it play video games. LO doesn't want to watch you play, I don't want her watching you play and I don't want to watch you play! I may do everything I can to distract from him setting the systems up.

  • One of our cats, Shadow, thinks the refrigerator is her playground. She will hop in the second it's open. So when she did it this morning, I shut the door on her and sat at the table for 5 minutes.

Did it teach her a lesson like I hoped? Nope! So was hanging out with the yogurt. I had to poke her with a carrot to finally get her out.

Next time she'll get locked in there longer.

She's the weirdest cat you'll ever meet.

    Same

I have no choice. I have to be up with her at 4 am. I have to start doing her bed time ritual at 7:30 after getting in the door at 7:00. If I don't, she won't go to bed until 11:30 or midnight and I absolutely can not run on 4 hours. Especially if she wakes up during that time. Which is currently a 66% chance she will. I miss her like crazy during the week and I have serious mommy guilt since this is only my second week back at work,  but I have to do this in order to pay the bills and keep us housed.

  • And also when my MIL kept insisting that we use sugar to get rid of his hiccups. I will never admit to her that I use gripe water.

I would never for an infant or even a younger child but I would get a spoon full of sugar to get rid of hiccups when i was younger and it works and I'd use it myself occasionally when LO gets older if they were the bas hiccups that hurt and wont go away. I think peanut butter has the same effect but I don't like peanut butter.

  • DH has a ball python, Percy, that's been around since his college days. Percy currently resides in our laundry. Each time I go in and find him out of his hiding place a sunning himself on his heat rock I'm disappointed this wasn't the time he finally died.

I am so tired of having to take care of the damn thing.

Keep that heat rock under him and he *will* die. I worked exotic animal medicine for 6 years and I can't tell you how many snakes we had come in with severe burns on their undersides because of those MFing heat rocks. Warm the cage with a ceramic heat bumb.

Believe it or not the heat rock versus no isn't an opinion anyone in the reptile world can agree on.

He's had his heat rock for 15 years now and is still living. He goes his hot spot when he wants it and moves away from it when he's finished with it.

DH is pretty well educated when it comes to reptiles and is quite the hobbyist. At one point we had 2 snakes and 6 different lizards.

I call BS. If you'd seen the number of burn victims, snake, lizard, gecko, etc, that I have from those damn things, there is no "opinion" about yes/no on heat rocks.

Every reptile we've owned, short of the chameleon, had a heat rock. None of them ever got a burn.

I read three books on Bearded Dragons before buying one for DH. All three recommended a heat rock to create a hot spot.

The reptile store DH worked at in college? Recommended heat rocks.

The trade show he bought the red tail boa from? Recommended a heat rock.

We've absolutely met people who said they're the death of reptiles and all. And we've met people who recommend them. The opinion varies.

I don't doubt people fuck them up. Just like people stupidly put cats in refrigerators. That doesn't mean the opinion on their use doesn't vary. Stupid pet owners exist, we're no that, and Percy loves his heat rock.

    But, whatever.

WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?! I want to shake you so hard right now. How the fuck do you think it's ok to lock a cat in the fucking fridge? You could kill the cat that way. You are a fucking idiot.
YUP! I've had to treat a cat for hypothermia because their asshole owner left it in the fridge. Guess what doesn't have air holes? A fridge.

How about just be a good owner and take your cat out of the fridge when you open it, or does taking those 2 extra seconds really inconvenience you?
