What are you snobby about?

I'm feeling very GTKY lately. What are you snobbish about? What do you place high standards about when you would normally be "meh" about other things?

Totally random, but I am a snob about lunch meat. I will only eat Boar's Head - none of this store brand garbage. Its funny because I'm typically a pretty frugal person!

  • On the topic of food, I'm also snobby about no name/store brand vs brand name foods Ketchup has to be Heintz, soup has to be Campbell's. Mayo (yes mayo) has to be Kraft Miracle Whip. Mustard you can't really screw up so I'll eat store brand mustard.

I'm also snobby about yoga pants. Has to be lululemon (despite the owner's most recent comments).

  • I love myself some Boars Head!! When I was driving while pregnant there was a boars head truck next to me and I actually was contemplating ways to high jack it;)

For me it's cars...but only for myself. it doesnt matter what you drive or even what MH drives...I will ride in anything...but for me I like having a nice car...even if its a bit older...

  • I'm feeling very snobbish because I'm relating to most of these :-S Especially toilet paper! The only new one I can add is music. I totally judge people based on what they listen to and (generally speaking) feel like my taste in music is superior ;)
I think it is an acceptable base to judge on though. lol

  • For me it's jewerly. I used to love any kind of jewerly as long as it went with my outfit. However, it would break down and discolor and be useless to me. I wear the same jewerly on a daily basis now. My wedding ring, solitaire earrings, and a solitaire necklace. They go just fine with everything. If I ever want to spruce up an outfit I'll pull out some of my old jewerly that looks okay but will not buy new unless my DH surprises me with something.
  • Anything hair related, but that comes with the territory...

A random one - baseball fans. DH and I can not stand people who try to act like they know more than us or bandwagon fans who can't even hold a conversation.

  • Im snobbish about jeans. I will only buy them from Kohls.

Im also snobbish about toilet paper, shampoo and conditioner, soap, deodorant, perfume, and feminine products.
  • Toilet paper. I went to three different stores once because the first two were sold out of the particular brand we use.

Also, soda.  The little I drink-I'm a Coke/Diet Coke/Dr. Pepper girl through and through.  No store brands and no Pepsi.

*prepares for onslaught of Pepsi lovers*  b-(

Miracle Whip is *not* mayo. Ick. Ick to mayo too, while I'm at it, but I'll eat it in tuna. But only if it's actually mayo.

I'm only snobby about some brand name things (and apparently mayo vs MW) like Cheez-its and Cheerios. Other things I just buy what's cheap. It depends on how good the generic is.

I won't buy store brand plastic wrap.

What? What the heck is miracle whip then? Lol. I've always called it and heard it referred to as mayo.

  • Make up and nail polish. I only use MAC, OPI and Essie and I tend to look down on drugstore cosmetics if its not mascara. Cheap nail polish irks me when it chips.

I'm not a big makeup person, but I'd have to say makeup too. Growing up, my aunt always gave my sister and I her free gifts from Lancome and Clinique, so we grew up with that instead of the cheap stuff. I can't use drug store makeup! I'm ruined for life!

  • Another vote for ketchup = Heinz only. And only Always or Tampax, no store brand. I feel kind of hypocritical about that since I use store brand diapers for the kids.

And beer. My in laws all drink Michelob Golden Light. Ish. Gimme a Blue Moon please.

  • clothes and not necessarily brands but I can't do used clothes. I know they are perfectly fine and I would save a TON of money (self admitted shop a holic) but thinking about other people wearing the clothes I am wearning gives me the heebie jeebies. I even grab clothes from the very back of the rack at stores thinking that they haven't even been tried on

I might as well piggy back on my own post and say anything used. dishes, silverware, shoes, furniture, etc.

  • Shoes and purses,  I would rather buy a quality purse like Micahel Kors for $300+ that lasts awhile rather than buying a purse for $30 that only lasts a few months. Same goes for shoes.

  • Beer- I love craft brews and fun seasonals. Purses :\"> I love high end purses and shoes. However, I won't usually buy designer things that aren't statement pieces (coats, bags or shoes). Those are investments ;)

  • Meat and dairy. I will only buy organic. Also, I only go to fast food places once a year if that. I live around the corner from a McDonald's and I only went once and that was for coffee.
  • Paper towels. It's Viva or nothing.
  • Paper towels. It's Viva or nothing.
At the hospital, they had these amazing, soft, fragrance/soap free wipes. They told us that Viva towels were very close to their texture etc when wet. So, we buy some every now and then to assist us with the bio hazard cleanup on a particularly explosive poop.
  • Is it snobby to only like Costco toilet paper? Generic brands are too thin, name brands are too thick; Costco is the only place that gets the balance right, and that alone makes the membership worth it (well, and the diapers too)!
I'll admit to being a Coke snob (which is weird because before I got pregnant, I didn't like dark soda of any kind). Also, after working in a deli, I'm a bit of a lunch meat and cheese snob, especially with Provolone cheese.
With everything else, though, I am a total cheapskate.

I don't know why I haven't thought of that before! What a great idea!

I agree about the lunch meat thing. That nasty pre-packaged stuff is full of nitrates and crap anyway. I don't know what nitrates are, but I'm pretty sure they're bad!

I am super picky about jeans. Like I will be wearing head to toe Target apparel, but designer jeans. All day errry day. What can I say? They make my ass look good.

  • @phill027 I wish you lived close to me because I'm a huge foodie. I went to this sausage place the other night that has alligator, duck, rattlesnake, & deer sausages.

I'd be less snobby about wine if bad wine didn't give me such a raging headache.
Oky, that's not true -- my parents collect wine and I took a "wine tutorial" in college where I learned all about it (growing, making, drinking), and now I'm sort of obsessed.  For a wedding gift, my parents bought us a gift subscription to the Wall Street Journal wine club -- 18 beautiful bottles every 3 months... and I got pregnant about half way through the subscription, so right now I have like 75 gorgeous bottles of expensive wine (more expnesive than I'd ever buy) in my house, just waiting to be tasted!

Although for white wine, I usually just stick to Bota Box pinot grigio... I'm talking about red wine.

  • I don't care about brands of much. I'll use mayo or miracle whip to keep from having a dry sandwich. Heinz 57 for steak. I prefer pepsi, don't buy full fat meats, and also don't like velveeta. Not picky about clothes or household stuff at all.

  • I'm a snob about jeans. I'd much rather invest in a couple of really nice pairs that fit well than to buy a ton of cheap pairs that start to sag in the ass.

My $32 dollar purse is going on two years old, but it's seen better days and will need to retire very soon. I'm seconding the pop snobberies. I need it to be diet coke. Diet Pepsi is not comparable. However, I will go for a diet mtn dew any day which is a Pepsi product. I'm also a grocery store girl. You will not see me doing my grocery shopping at a super target or walmart despite my love affair with target and Archer farms products.

  • Coffee
    Beer
Ranch dressing (hidden valley only, and regular, not this low fat crap)
Miracle Whip is gross; it's way too sweet.
I prefer Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke but will drink either.
