My great-great grandparents rode the boat over here from Bulgaria. Yes we are all from immigrants.
No I don't think it's right to send back a mother who had her children here. The children get to stay but the mother has to go. That's cruel.
But land and resources are not infinite. Just an idea, but maybe if there weren't so many "undocumented workers" to do the "undesirable" jobs, maybe those employers would have to pay more in wages. Instead, there is a butt load of cash going out, and no income tax coming in. There is a huge meat processing plant in the vicinity of where I work. The facility looks like a high security prison, only it's meant to keep people out. That way when INS comes they can hide all of the undocumented workers by the time INS makes there way in.
This is why we are in desperate need of immigration reform. All of the illegals are already here living off of our resources, so why not give them the opportunity to become legal citizens? I'm sure that the vast majority of them would pay taxes in order to not have to worry about being found and deported.
Wish I could love all of your points on this multiple times.
I get really irritated when I hear someone be all "Learn English, this is 'Merica". Just accept the fact that our country is becoming bilingual. Nobody is forcing you to learn Spanish, and there are plenty of bilingual people around to communicate with those who don't speak English. And FFS, stop trying to build the fence!
Totally agree. And accept that we're ALL from immigrants here. If you really want all immigrants out then we should be giving the country back to the native americans.
I agree to this... to an extent. I think expecting everyone to know English who lives here is a little much, however, expecting every office to cater to your language needs is equally as rediculous. some countries require all of their citizens to be bilingual and start that training in elementary school and follow through with it and have two official languages. the USA only has ONE OFFICIAL language so if you walk into a governmental or state operated building, you cannot EXPECT that we will be able to converse with you in your native tongue. Don't get me wrong, I am a first generation American and my grandmother lived here since I was born until she died and never learned English, and I don't have a problem with that and only kept her native tongue (urdu). However, she never expected the social security office to speak with her in Urdu and always brought a translator with her (usually my dad or me).
Yeah, that's what I don't get.. I live in a community where there are just as many Hispanics as there are Caucasian (maybe even more).. And there have been multiple times when I've been in the town's various government buildings and an individual is there YELLING at the clerk/receptionist/etc in Spanish and the poor government worker is asking if they need a translator because they don't understand them.
I'm all for promoting a bilingual society, it would do our country wonders if we started teaching our children other languages and started incorporating it more into our day to day... but unfortunately at the moment it's not that way, and English is the primary language of the US, you can't go into a building and demand that the people there should know what you're saying.
I hate the sun and summer. I hate being outside. I get sunburned and hot. Lying on a beach is my personal idea of hell. Once it hits 80 I'd rather be inside, thanks.
Me too! I hate summer and I hate being hot. Which is why I love Michigan, it's typically winter or at least cooler temps 6 months out of the year. The 3 months of summer make me want to die.
Yes - it's high of 40-something in Michigan today and I love it. Give me boots and sweaters over flip flops and dresses any day. I want my summer to be high of low-mid 70s with a cool breeze and nights in the 50s. No warmer.
I love small dogs! And big ones too. But big ones are so much work. Plus when you have to carry around a two pound poop bag that's kind of gross. And when they are acting up or being naughty on a walk you can just pick them up! We spend a small fortune on my 20lb dogs food every month I can't imagine how expensive a large breed would be to feed! Plus small dogs live longer which is an added bonus.
Dog food doesn't have to be expensive. I spend about $40 a month on food for my 90 lb dog that eats around 6 cups a day. I also shop a feed stores and not chain stores so that might make difference. I've compared what I get to other more expensive "name brands" and its just about the same ingredients wise and nutrition wise.

My UO is that polygamy is not inherently bad or dangerous and should be legal.
piggybacking off of this, I've been learning a lot about Mormonism lately because of a very ..infamous.. client of ours (can't say whom, take your guesses) and the persecution and stereotyping against Mormons is really disgusting. Most of what we're led to believe about them is horribly false and ignorant. Thanks media.
oh! I'm so glad to hear this! I'm a practicing Mormon (although I'm sure as heck not perfect, I still have a problem with swearing! As well as some other little things)... But I can't tell you how many times in my life people ask me stupid questions like "how many mom's do you have?" or "Do you have any 'sister wives' "? Ugh. I sound like a broken record every time I have to explain that we don't practice polygamy and haven't since it became illegal in the 1800's...
FLDS is who we're representing, so they do have multiple wives, but I don't even care because it's not what most people make it out to be. My boss's old partner is Mormon so I've gotten a pretty good dose of what the difference is. Sorry people bother you with those questions!
I don't care as long as it's not at the expense of marrying off underage girls. While this hopefully doesn't happen often, it does happen and, religion or not, I'm not down with it.

See, I just can't imagine picking a dog up and carrying it. Dogs are not meant to be carried. Or wear clothes and bows and live in purses or carriers, they're dogs, they like to roll in mud and poop and hunt for squirrels and rabbits. They eat anything and everything.
Granted, I do let my big dog sleep on our bed because DH is gone all the time for work and he snuggles on the couch with me, but he eats out of his bowl on the floor and walks everywhere. I grew up with a purebred Doberman though who slept with me. We have a strong breed, 85lb, dog and use a prong collar for walks. My 3-year old niece can walk our dog without an issue. She probably couldn't carry the poop bag though
As for feeding a big dog, I spend $45/month on food, one big bag is all it takes. My dog eats 2 cups, twice a day. Not bad.

I love all dogs, but I HATE HATE HATE people that carry around little dogs all the time. They're still dogs and they want to walk! There's a lady on my street that walks a stroller up and down everyday. It took me weeks to realize there was a DOG in there and not a baby! Just let that damned dog walk! Our dog, who is medium sized, loves walks more than anything!
I have no issue with the stretch marks appearing on my body. Every time someone posts something about how they can avoid them, I just don't understand. To me, they feel like medals of honor that this little baby is growing big and strong. This doesn't mean I'm not having other body issues, but stretch marks are certainly not part of them.
PREACH! My belly may now look like an old man's face got mauled by a tiger thanks to DS and genetics, but I wear these suckers like a badge of honor. And if anyone needs to ask about them, it gives me an excuse to talk about my kiddo. Works for me!
I think you should have a license to breed and sell dogs.
That's not a requirement?
Unfortunately in most places its not, which is why you have back yard breeders that can sell in news papers and on the side of the road.
My BIL does this. The female he breeds is old and in poor health and the male he breeds her with is her son, also not in great health. He wants to get as many puppies out of her as he can before he switches to breeding the male with the sister-daughter he kept. Reason #126785 I hate his ignorant ass.
I also hate beach vacations. I would take a ski vacation over a beach vacation in a hot second.

Nowhere did I say my dog is carried around like an accessory.
@AprilMay9, no and I don't think you do, or at least I wasn't implying you do. But plenty of people with small dogs do treat them like accessories.
I still don't agree with picking up a dog and carrying it anywhere unless the pup is at an age where they have issues saying getting up the stairs or something, which eventually happens.

I think immigration reform is an excellent idea and I 100% agree with that. It should not be a costly process either. But you said stop building the fence, and I disagree with that because it perpetuates the problem.

Yes. My husband totally didn't believe me when I said it was a dog not a baby in there until we walked passed her walking the dog one day. I think he still doesn't want to believe it lol.
My biggest issue with small dogs is owners who don't feel the need to train them.
I completely agree with this. I do have a small dog (a cairn terrier), but went through extensive training with her. My in-laws think training their small dog is a waste of time. It was a nightmare when I was dog-sitting for 2 weeks. I spent so much time just trying to teach their dog basic manners.

I completely agree but marrying off underage girls is already illegal. There is no reason to make polygamy illegal just because some polygamists have done this....polygamy isn't the crime, taking advantage of underage girls is the crime.

IDK, I think there are a lot of bilingual people here, so it is pretty likely that someone who doesn't speak English can find someone to help them. In my experience, I also find that people frequently do have translators with them (usually their children) or can speak enough broken English to get their point across. I don't think it's standard that people stomp into buildings demanding to have someone who speaks their language because they refuse to learn English.
You'd be surprised how many people become irate when we tell them there are no spanish speakers in our office. that they need to go literally next office over and get a translator

I agree - I just meant I don't like when those few people in power use religion as their justification card for taking advantage of underage girls. There are plenty of people that practice their religion without breaking those laws. And though I'm not going to begin to pretend to understand polygamy or wanting to be a part of it, to each their own as long as everybody's in it voluntarily and old enough to make those decisions.
And on the dog tip, I prefer Mutts! Adopted mutts! They also live longer and there are too many pups that need good homes out there.
We have an adopted mutt, they are the best.
Is that your mutt in your siggy? Looks like a Boxer mix? I love love love Boxers. I totally want a Boxer or Boxer mix one day.
Yup! He's a boxer/bullmastiff mix according to the foster mom we got him from. He came from Georgia (we drove all the way down to pick him up when he was sick with parvo) and bring him home. We think he definitely has hound or ridgeback in him (he's a hunter/sniffer), lab and likely some pit. He's such a mix of personalities and great.
Boxer mixes are great! Huge loves

I've owned big and small dogs, and I don't have a problem with either. I currently have a smaller dog and it bothers me when people automatically assume she is yappy and spoiled. Not all small dogs are like that, especially if they have an owner who is willing to train them. I don't like when people lump certain kinds of dogs together (all small dogs are yappy, all pit bulls are mean, etc.)
Irresponsible owners are horrible people. I hate going to the dog park and seeing the way some owners treat their dogs. One man couldn't control his very large dog who was barking and pulling and he literally started beating him. Other owners yelled at him for doing it, but of course he was all "It's my dog! You can't tell me how to treat MY dog!" And then there was the small dog owner who kept his dog in his lap the entire time. That dog was so unbelievably spoiled it barked at any other dog that came within three feet.
I LOVE pets and wish everyone could own one because of the benefits. But some people should NOT be allowed to own animals.
Don't want to add a giant quote tree, so I'll just start talking and rambling.
I also dislike the small yippers. I have a dachshund (a super cool rescue I might add) and most other dachshunds I've been around are awful barking jumping messes. I hate when other people think we're dog friends just because we have a same dog breed. I don't give a shit about your dog and I hate small dogs. I got lucky and snapped this dog up because he's cool and acts like a big dog.
This is all so true for me too! My dog thinks she's a big dog and gets along best with the retrievers, boxers, and Great Danes. It's so funny watching all 14 pounds of her play with those big dogs, but she never thinks twice about it. Oh, and she's not a barker either. Definitely an atypical small dog.

You will LOVE New Zealand! We went there on our Honeymoon, it was amazing! I can't even explain how awesomely beautiful it is! Have so much fun! I'm jealous
I can't fathom not liking the beach. Sitting in the sun (or shade), reading a great book, the sound of the waves, the sand under your feet....ahhhh....heaven.
That said, if we do a beach vacation, it's less than 2 hours away at our favorite shore town. Certain caribbean vacations appeal, but if I'm spending $$$ and flying, I'll go to lots of other places first.
THIS!! I love vacations where I do nothing but relax (or walk/hike) and lots of reading. I could do it in the mountains in the snow, or on a beach. I just don't want to be rushing around trying to squeeze in 8 million museums while standing in line with a bunch of tourists. The only way I like to visit cities is with people who are locals, so I get a little bit of tourist stuff in, but mostly am living their life.
My dream vacation is to go to the Caribbean (somewhere quiet and private, I don't like resorts), but I also wouldn't spend the money on it. Our first big vacation sans kids in 5 years we have decided is going to be to New Zealand. A little sun, a little beach, some wine country, and some hiking.

Oh man, I'd be that geek that would want to do the LOTR tour of New Zealand. SUCH beautiful country, andplusalso THE SHIRE IS REAL and I want to see it in person.
My UO today is that while I love all big dogs, I hate cats and small dogs. I won't even pet them. And I don't understand why someone would adopt or buy a "toy" breed anything.
I don't like toy breeds either. I heard them described by a comedian once as "kickin size" I don't trust them the way I do larger dogs. I enjoy cats though.
I love big dogs as well, much more than little dogs, but I do have a soft spot for black or chocolate toy poodles. They're just so dang sweet. Chihuahuas are just Mexican rats. They're not dogs. And they're not cute.
I love all dogs, but they do not belong in purses. They have legs, let them walk!
What ever!!! what does it matter to anyone at all!! surely we all just want to have a good pregnancy, deliver in what ever way possible means baby is here safe and sound, we are safe, and baby grows healthy and happy!!! I refuse to belong to categories apart from one,
I want my baby and I want us both happy and healthy at the end of the day!!!

I did a Contiki tour in NZ and this was one of the options. It was $200-$300 for an entire day, and all of the people who chose to go came back really disappointed. I think because it was more of a 'this was where xyz was filmed' and the only recognizable element was a tree, whereas the rest would have been CGI. But if you're a super fan, do it up! NZ is AMAZING though, even if the tour is balls, the scenery is beautiful.
I will admit that I haven't done the LOTR thing, mostly because I know most of it was CGI. Where Hobbiton was filmed in Matamata was mostly pulled down after the LOTR, but was rebuilt for the Hobbit, and it was part of their contract that they got to keep most of it up, so it would actually be better now. Personally I think its pretty over priced for what it is, but if you are into it, its pretty cool.

Yes - it's high of 40-something in Michigan today and I love it. Give me boots and sweaters over flip flops and dresses any day. I want my summer to be high of low-mid 70s with a cool breeze and nights in the 50s. No warmer.
We just became besties. That would be my perfect summer!

You guys need to move to Seattle or San Francisco. I love hot summers but for some reason choose to live in cities that hardly ever get hot.
I hate that so many people bleach their hair or dye their hair in a way that looks totally unnatural. If it looks like you have a skunk on your head you are not fooling anyone! I think most women look better with what god gave them or something at least close to their natural color.

Or San Diego - I was there for comic-con in mid-July and it never got higher than like 74 and breezy - it was awesome.
Re: UO!

Not bad.

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:
I still don't agree with picking up a dog and carrying it anywhere unless the pup is at an age where they have issues saying getting up the stairs or something, which eventually happens.

We have an elderly man in our neighborhood who has an older chocolate lab. He drives around the neighborhood on his electric scooter while his dog walks beside him. To me, this makes sense. Having the dog in the stroller, that's just plain crazy!

Huge loves

Chihuahuas are just Mexican rats. They're not dogs. And they're not cute.
I love all dogs, but they do not belong in purses. They have legs, let them walk!
