We live with one of our grandmas, generally it's a great situation for all of us, but at times it's frustrating to be so close. Lately, she's been obsessing over how much DS eats (we're doing BLW and he eats quite well). He also wakes up and cries every 2 hours at night, last night was actually a great night and he slept from 1am to 5am straight! But in the morning she says, "do you think he had a tummy ache?" No, I say, he wakes up like that every night. "But he just cries like his little heart is breaking" (she says this all the frickin time, agh). And then tonight, "Do you think he has hunger pains? I just want to make sure he's eating enough" And it doesn't matter how many times any of us explain that he's getting everything he needs from milk... It just goes on and on, my friends...

Why is he waking up crying so often?

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • My confession is that I am really boring.

    LOL

I seriously just read through this whole thing and have so little to contribute!

I agree with DublinMama and amaxwell1 about the whole "everyone makes the team" thing though I know not all children's groups are like that.

TV certainly is like that. When DD does start watching TV I am going to try to offer her some old school kids shows because I find that modern children's TV is so safe that it is bland.

Also, on the wine thing, DH and I stopped drinking wine while I was pregnant (I wasn't drinking even a glass and DH doesn't drink very much at a time so he just bought beer since its pre-packaged in single servings) and when we came back to it recently (I have a glass sometimes after DD goes to bed) we find that we can no longer drink wine without getting headaches! It's crazy! I love wine especially South American reds and French whites so I hope this isn't permanent.

We're making our own mead now and it should be ready by New Years <:-P SO EXCITED for it to turn out well. DH has been making kombucha for years and it is so good so I think the mead is in good hands.

I don't know! And I don't know what else to do! On a "good night" he'll put himself back to sleep within 3 minutes for the first half of the night. If he takes longer I just nurse him and put him back. We've done enough sleep training that I know he is capable of soothing himself and putting himself to sleep. And I'm pretty sure that he's eating enough during the day that he's not truly hungry (plus feeding him doesn't buy me any extra time until the next wake up).

Put me in the many wake ups group. Last night, E went down at 9, was up at 10, back down at 11, and up FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT at 1am. Seriously. He didn't dose off again until 5:30 and woke up when DH came home at 6.

You're not alone. See my sleep post from a few weeks ago. We're going to start sleep training again tonight now that DD2 has adjusted to the new house (we moved 1.5 weeks ago).

This is our exact life. Every 2 hours almost on the dot all night. It's awful. He will scream and scream and scream bloody murder and not let up until I nurse him. We haven't had one SSTN ever. ever! 9 months next week and I can count the times I've slept longer than a 3 hour chunk on one hand. We did modified CIO a few months ago so he is able to put himself to sleep at naps and bedtime. Idk what is with the never ending night awakenings. I'm as clueless as you!

  • Ha! I have another one!

In keeping with the somewhat theme of Christmas and Holidays, I am already tuned in to the all Christmas song radio! Woohoo! I love Christmas music!

Oooh and even though I am somewhat of  PC-bleeding-heart-liberal, I play Christmas songs in my public school classroom! Not like "Away in a Manger" but come on, who doesn't love "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas"?

  • One thing my pediatrician said that I also keep in mind is that toddler diets should be measured by the week, not the day. So if all they want for a few days is bananas, don't worry about it as long as they compensate for it with protein another day. Use what they've eaten over the week, not the day, to determine if they're getting a balanced diet. When I look at how my girls eat based on that they're very healthy eaters even if some days they only want bread or only want yogurt or whatever.
    This!!!

Something that was also eye-opening for me was when I went to a pediatric nutritionist with DS1 as a toddler to deal with his food allergies.  She told me to aim for five good days each week.  When she showed me the amount of food the average toddler should have in one day I was floored.  The amount of protein from meat that they need in a day is like the equivalent of one chicken nugget or something like that (it's been a while, I can't remember exactly).  It's no wonder we have problems getting our kids to eat sometimes, because we're seriously overfeeding them.  Perhaps the two bites of the meat that they take is really enough to fill them up.

  • This one may ruffle some feathers...

My husband is a staunch Atheist. I am a recovering, life-long raised Catholic. I have horrid memories of my weepy, 8 year old self sitting in front of a 60 year old priest telling him all the ways I had let God down. We have no intention of raising our son under any religion. I'm happy to inform him of what's out there, and let him choose a path that feels right. Buuuuut, we still do all the Christian holidays full tilt. To me, there is a socio-cultural piece to them that, like it or not, has little to do with religion.

    Edited for typos.

My husband and I are both agnostic and I flippin' love Christmas. If people would behave like it's Christmas all year long (charity, caring for others) I think the world would be a better place. My best friend is Jewish and she calls herself a cultural Jew (doesn't really believe everything but loves the traditions and culture.) I kind of consider myself a cultural Christian.

That and a lot of people who are not Christian celebrate Christmas. The above best friend also celebrates Christmas.

I'm one of those people who doesn't take medicine or give any to LO. I'm never painful or miserable enough to take it myself, and honestly I really can't tell if E is hurting, so I'd rather not give her anything.
Well, last night she was a little more whiney and she had only napped 30 minutes the entire day so I gave her some ibuprofen. She went to bed at 7 and is still sleeping (it's 7 now) with only one wake up during the night too eat. Now I'm feeling super guilty because if it was the ibuprofen that helped, she's been needing it for the last two months and I didn't realize it :( she must have been feeling miserable and I had no idea.

I'm the same way when it comes to meds for DS. His natural demeanor is pretty whiny/clingy so its hard for me to tell when/if he is actually hurting

  • @knickerbockers it's just honey and water! (About 3/4 to 1/2 quart of honey to a gallon if water depending on how robust you like your mead) it takes a while but you put it in a container with a rubber stopper and an airlock:

    image

And let it ferment until the bubbles stop forming. Then bottle it. The longer the mead stays in the bottle, the better it is.

We found the recipe by googling how to do it. This is one of the resources we used:

    https://www.stormthecastle.com/mead/make-mead-1-brewing-the-must.htm

We've never made it before but so far so good as you can see from the photo!

@Drea926 -yeah, unfortunately I'm 26 and still in the arbor mist phase. I wish I liked wine more, but anything stronger than something like shutter homes blush gives me instant heartburn!!!!! It's one of the very few things that will (give me heartburn). Don't know how to get past it. What would you, or any of you other wine-os suggest for me that won't give me heartburn???? Help.

Heartburn is actually a histamine response.  I wonder if you are allergic to grapes or to sulfites.

I don't think I'm allergic to grapes, I eat them ALL. THE. TIME. ....LOVE THEM. lol. It's like my 2nd favorite fruit. All my life. Sulfites? Don't even know what it is or what contains this. I'm not aware of any food allergies actually. Not allergic to anything at all. The only weird thing (allergy/ histamine related) that I've ever experienced was when I had a mc (1st pregnancy) - before I knew that I had mc'd, I was breaking out with these huge welts on random spots on my body, itchy as hell, a couple times a week. Then even after my D&C I was still getting the welts. I finally attributed them to my body's rejection of the baby and the hormones. It lasted for about 3-4 months. Never happened again.

Wow things are starting to make sense over here! I randomly get the worst heartburn...i guess maybe its not so random. Im going to have watch the wine connection. But right now i have hives, like everyday crazy hives. It sounds like this is maybe what you had as well during your loss. Apparently postpartum hives is common but there didn't seem to be any answers. Some people say it may be linked to breastfeeding others say the fathers dna from the placenta. But its been 5 months of this and I'm pretty sick of it. Did you ever get any answers?

@mishka29 No, I never got any answer from anyone! It's frustrating. I know. I stopped getting the hives around end of Jan-beginning of Feb last year (2012). But looking back on everything, my gut tells me that it was definitely from the mc/hormones. One night I would get a welt on half of my bottom lip, the next night I would get a welt on the top of my one foot, a week later I'd get a patch of welts on the back of my knee. It was so random and so unpredictable. And so itchy!!!! Except when my lips would swell up they weren't ever itchy. The welts would vary in size from pea size up to golf ball sized ones. Crazy. I hope you have better luck finding answers. Sorry I'm not much help.
