do you think boy or girl? And thoughts in general?
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
I really like Rory, both for a boy, and as a NN for Lorelei.

I think "boy," but only because the only Rory that I know is a man.

I think boy first and then Gilmore Girls second. I really like it for a boy. I often see people on here say it is hard or awkward to say but I don't get that.
ETA: never thought if it before... But do like it on a girl as a nn for Aurora. Love that!
My response to this really surprised me. I would have thought my first reaction would be "girl" because I was such a big fan of Gilmore Girls. Turns out Doctor Who has supplanted the Girls, because my first thought was "and Amy".
That said, I do have a family friend whose daughter is Aurora, nn Rory, and I think that's very cute. I'm not 100%, but I think a male Rory would have to have British/Irish roots.
Hmmm. I think boy too but like it as a nn for Lorelei. The guys I know spell it Ruairi. Too close with Rhys?

Seeing/Hearing it on a girl makes me cringe. To me, it is the equivalent to naming a girl Richard or Marcus or Abram. Yes, even as a nickname. Stupid Gilmore Girls.
I really don't assume either way, since I hear it more for girls (or as a NN for Lorelei and Aurora) but know it's traditionally male. I like this name in theory but find it hard to say.
Boy. All the ones I've known have been boys. I had a hard time getting into Gilmore Girls because it was so weird to me that there was a girl named Rory.
I went to school with a Rory (boy) in elementary school, and would never have thought about it as a name for a girl until Gilmore Girls. So I think it's really a unisex name...

Boy. I've only ever known boys with the name and I love it! I didn't watch Gilmore Girls ever, not my kind of tv, but them using it doesn't make it a girl's name to me. Tv loves to give girls boy name to be "cool" and I think it' stupid.
I think of my little curly, blue-eyed girl But I also have a friend who had a big chunky baby boy with red hair named Rory, so I think it could go either way. I think that on a girl it should be a nn, though.
What is your daughters full name?
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
even on GG it's a nn. I feel like when I picture it on a boy it's his real, full name. On a girl I picture it as a nn. I actually like Rory as a nn for Aurora better than for Lorelei
One of my dearest friends name is Rory and she is a girl. She is drop dead gorge and can TOTALLY carry the name. I know for a fact that she loves it cause she told me! I knew a boy in High school named Rory. I like it for both, but because one of my dearest is Rory *not a NN*, I love it on a girl!

The newest Rory I know of is a little girl; but, I wouldn't be suprised if I heard it on a boy either.
My other thought on this name? I like it a lot on paper, but I personally have a hard time saying it. The double "Rs" don't roll off my tongue easily, but maybe that's just me!

Me too. I feel like I'm doing a terrible Scooby Doo impression any time I say it out loud. Never sounds so bad in my head, and looks cute on paper. But IRL? Nope.
