I am clueless and have a registry question

We are getting ready to start our registry. I want to start the registry after we find out the sex on November 18th. We walked around Babie-R-Us last night to get ideas and when we got to the high chair section I was unsure. Should we put a high chair on our registry? Do most people do that? I know that is something that is not used the first few months of a babies life so I don't want to be greedy if that is something that people usually buy themselves later on. Man, it is times like this that I feel really naive. I haven't been to a baby shower since I was a kid.

I put it on. My grandmother wound up getting it for me. Even if nobody gets it, you'll be able to use the completion discount for it.

We are just putting everything on it so, like she said, we can use the discount from the registry. Plus, it'll help you keep track of what you still need.

This is exactly what i was going to say! At least go start it so you get that money back! You can always add/change when baby isactually here. Just put a few things on it for now!

Anything that you can use in the first year can go on your registry! What I love about my highchair is you can actually take it off stand and sit on the floor or attach it to a chair which is really convenient for traveling!

It's not greedy to register for things! You can even put things for you on there like nursing tops and bras if youre going to nurse!

You don't have to wait till you know to start it! You can just put a couple things on there and add more after you know! That way you can get their good deal!!

You can also make it private if you want until you know!

One tip I have is don't overwhelm yourself by registering for too many clothes. People like to buy what they want as far as clothes go plus it's hard to know exactly what size is your baby will be in (DS could wear newborn for a week. He was in 6 mo clothes by 3-4 mo. and at 11 mo he could wear 18-24 mo clothes! He isn't fat he's just a big boy

his height and weight are 95%... But some babies are tiny

Thanks everyone. I don't know what I would do without you all. I didn't know that most people consider registries for things through the first year. I told you I am clueless! LOL.

Also, anyone know how I make my Babies-R-us registry private for the time being?

I know with target you can do it online so I assume babies R us is the same! You can always ask the person when you create the registry!

And don't let their list stress you out! Remember they're trying to get you to buy stuff so start with the smallest number on their list of things that you "need" or just throw the list away and walk up and down each aisle

It's nice to have things to try because after your baby is born you will get to know him or her and what they like and what they don't like !! sometimes you just have to trial and error and try different things and it won't take you long to figure out the things that you love and the things that you don't

Example, some babies don't take a pacifier. Mine did and I'm so glad people bought me like five different kinds because that helped me figure out which one DS love the most! (Dr browns) but for bottles I loved the drop in kind! ( he nursed but I also ended up supplementing a little bit)

I put the high chair on there. My family wanted to take care of the more expensive items. Thank The Lord!

Also I put a training potty on there too, which I also recieved. For me, I just wanted to make sure there were things in every price range. Nothing worse than getting invited to your 4th cousins baby shower, and seeing nothing but $50+ on the registry.

For my first, I put everything I could possibly think of on there, including a potty chair - which I got! I don't think there are any rules of what you can and can't put on there. But I do agree with myschlove people will buy the clothes that they like so concentrate more on the things you need and have a variety of prices.

With our first I put everything on it, except clothes. I used it as a checklist for myself. And most places give a certain percent off of items on your registry after a certain date.

I don't think you can set BRU registries to private but if anyone figures it out let me know. I'm just not going to tell anyone about it. I just figure if someone is checking every store to see if I have a registry this early on before a shower is even planned then they really want to buy me a gift and they can go for it.

I put everything in the registry that might be needed. People will purchase what they want off of it. I found having everything in one place was also nice because I can then check off what I still need after the shower.

Even though you are waiting to add to the registry until you know the sex I would start it (even just sign up) before November 15th if you live in the states because of the promotion they have going on.

I am new to this also, but I would definitely add the high chair. Think that's fairly common.
