Re: UO

  • @ihearttab i don't hate cats. We had a ton of cats growing up, and i used to love them. I still like *some* cats but they have to be super laid back and friendly. As you know i was bit, badly, and i think that caused my fear of cats (but i was never scared of my own cats, just strays- unless my cat got "crazy eyes"... then, i was scared)... I worked in 2 animal hospitals totaling almost 7 yrs, and whenever i had to pick up a cat (not often because i didn't work directly with the patients most days), i would have anxiety. I had to get other people to pick up the cats unless they were rolling around purring and head butting me. And even then i was nervous because cats are just so unpredictable... But kittens, i love, and will pick up and smoosh and cuddle all day. Until my allergies kick in.

  • @micabush I laughed out loud at that one
  • I'm sort of jealous of all the teething babies. Hear me out on this one. Neither of my girls got their first tooth until they were 14 months. And, they both had a mouthful by 18 months. First off, that was awful. Plus, it was super not fun having them be a year old and still having to gum the crap out of whatever food they had. I just have a feeling Max will be the same way, and I'm due for 4 months of teething toddlerhood again. Boo.
  • @ameh13 I can't believe someone would say someone doesn't deserve a handicap spot and to their face. That is really rude.

A HS teacher of mine said he did this. In response, the lady took off her prosthetic leg and waved it at him. That shut him up! And served as a lesson for all us kids, I wouldn't dare say something!

I'm not jealous of the teething. DS cut his first tooth at 18 months, and he still only has 10 of his teeth. He cut his last first-year molar on his second birthday. Meal times are still somewhat obnoxious because he still can't eat a lot of stuff, but I didn't mind the late teething so much.

DD kind of acts like she might be teething (she chews on stuff more than DS ever did), and I'm just hoping to avoid teething and BFing at the same time.

  • @rissnruss I PPH YOU BUSH!

    SURPRISE! BFP: 12/2014 - EDD: 8/13/15

We made plans and God laughed

    DS: BFP: 9/30/12 - EDD: 6/9/13

Radley Quinn was fashionably late via induction on 6/17/13

  • I hate cats, but mainly because I'm allergic.  They make my life miserable if I'm around them.

    I love coffee.

I moderately dislike red velvet cake.

    I greatly dislike Miley Cyrus

Breastfeeding is a HUGE topic that I don't feel like touching right now.  Maybe later.  But I gave my first bottle of formula last night because of the hell I've been through with plugged ducts, but I just can't do it and am planning to go back to EBF today.  My emotions are all kinds of out of whack right now on that subject.

Is this a joke? Tell me this is a joke.

Cats are cool. Coffee is everything. Baby jeans are cute. Red velvet is meh.

My UO: Although I never say no to a food, I'm not a huge fan of turkey, cranberry sauce, and sweet potatoes, thus I never look forward to thanksgiving dinner. Except for the togetherness.

  • @RissNRuss - Thanks!  Me too.  We'll see.  Practicality and reality seem to fly out of the window when emotions are involved.  And there are so many emotions around breastfeeding/formula feeding!

I also hate cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes. I like turkey though. My problem is Easter. I hate ham. I usually fill up on cheesy potatoes and macaroni salad.

I loved my catheter...not having to get up to pee? YES PLEASE
I am terrified of catheters. They are the number one reason I ended up not getting an epidural, because they said I had to have one if I did.

What's scary about it? (honestly asking, I had two cs's so it wasn't even a thought)

    Edit: wrong to/too/two

  • I hate celery with a fiery passion. I don't like it with peanut butter, cream cheese, hummus or whatever. It's never ever good in/on/with anything. The sight and sound of it make me nauseous.

    But coffee? Mmm.

  • @lavonnallama I had mine with an epi for all of 5 minutes. She inserted in, emptied me out, took it out, I pushed out A, all done. A lot less hubaloo than I expected.

  • I can see why it could be called "overrated."  When it works, it's described as "beautiful! spiritual! bonding!" which is TRUE.  When it doesn't work, it sucks.  I don't think the BENEFITS are overrated...but the experience can be for some.

You have a way with words. This nails it. To me anyway.

The straight cath is great!  I had it during labor (no epi) and when on hospital bedrest.  It was so bizarre and yet wonderful at the same time.  The other cath that stays in?  Not so pleasant.

  • Ok, fine, I'll go there.  I think the benefits of breastfeeding are overstated.  Not saying that they aren't there, but that it is impossible to accurately measure and the studies they have done that show benefits can't actually prove causation, only correlation, and there are a LOT of other factors that are in play there.  It's impossible to say that all of the positive side effects that are attributed to breastfeeding should be completely attributed to breastfeeding.  However, I believe it is natural and is perfect nutrition for your baby.  And not saying it ISN'T many of the great things people say it is - it just can't be proven as strongly as people want it to be.  Please feel free to educate me if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't say it's overrated though.  I think the experience is a very personal one and while it can be the most wonderful experience and bonding time for some, it can be miserable for others.  If things go well then I don't think it's overrated at all - it's wonderful.  But it's really hard for some people who have had great breastfeeding experiences to put themselves in the shoes of those who went through hell with it.

And with all that said, as I mentioned above, I have clearly been struggling with my own personal decisions around breastfeeding.  So take what I say with a grain of salt - I'm an emotional, hormonal woman and I think I'm ovulating now for the first time.  Booooooo.

@numbersgirl08 I responded to tiffletons saying that I probably could have chosen different words.  For me, it was also hard and I felt extremely judged by a close friend for choosing to only pump. And I agree  with you that it is hard for someone who had great experiences to put themselves in my shoes.  I don't think anything could have prepared me for the emtional rollercoaster about breastfeeding.  I'm still going through issues with trying to wean from pumping.  I guess I would say for me personally, it's overrated.  But I guess not for others.

Does no one else read what I wrote afterwards?? I felt that I explained myself and mentioned that I could have worded my original post differently.  :(  I feel judged for even having an UO

I think it's good that you clarified.  However, you can't get upset because certain people responded to your original statement before they had a chance to read your follow-up explanation.  Whether you BF or not, most mothers feel strongly about it, so I'm willing to bet you knew what you were getting yourself into, and the responses you might get. That being said, I understand your point and genuinely feel for you and the struggles you went through.  The experience definitely is over-rated for some.

I knew it would be a hot topic when I said it and I totally understand the way people responded.  However, I thought my explanation would have been read.  I'm not upset, I kinda just wish I could take it back.
