Another confession: I've been bored lately. My house is clean, the fall TV lineup is disappointing, none of my knitting projects are interesting and between being pitch dark by 6pm and freezing cold out I have no interest in leaving my house. So - I've been considering firing up World of Warcraft. I know it's a bad idea because that game is like crack and I'll end up delivering this baby in the car and/or neglecting it once she's here to finish just one... more.. quest. I suspect this weekend I'll give in.

I reactivated my account but I only get a couple hours to play after DD goes to bed and I'm usually too tired to get in to much Plus my guild is now full of people I don't know and even though I'm a founding member, I'm old and irrelevant now. #WoWProblems
I friggin HATE when people ride their bikes in the street when there is a sidewalk. Yes, I know it's the law that you should be in the street, but get out of the street....
It's okay. Everyone legally riding their bike in the street thinks you're an asshole too.
They can think what they want about me, I could give a rat's ass. They are the douche bags that ride IN THE MIDDLE of the street the MAJORITY of the time. I don't care if they are being healthy, I'd gladly watch them topple into a ditch on the side of the road and laugh all the way home.
@linzerd OMG I can't believe you said that. OMG....I just can't. Never in a million years would I ever imagine someone on this board wishing this on me or my husband or my friends. How can you wish this on anyone? How??? My friend WAS that guy in a ditch recently. Left there by the car that hit him. Got a concussion. You would laugh at that? I would love to see you tell that to his wife and three young children. He followed the law to the letter and you would LAUGH ALL THE WAY HOME at him getting hit by a car? Where the FUCK is your humanity?
Just so you know, it is perfectly legal to take the whole road as we are considered a vehicle just like you. In fact, it has been proven SAFER to take the whole road as cars are then more cautious than if you try to hug the shoulder, since then cars tend to skim you and not want to give room.
Exactly. In my extended circle I can list 4 people who were killed after being skimmed by a car and one who was left with traumatic brain injury. I know of one girl who is racing Florida tomorrow in her husband's place because he was killed last year while training right before the race.
For fuck's sake. I was NOT serious about HITTING SOMEONE. It was a joke. And when I said seeing someone topple into a ditch, I was NOT referring to them being HIT by a car and then toppling. "I'd gladly watch them topple into a ditch on the side of the road" I'd just like to ask where I said IN THAT sentence I'd like to HIT them, watch them topple and laugh. Just falling that's all. I also never said I'd hit someone on a bike and leave them there, that's absurd and you all need to settle the fuck down. You can all get your panties out of a bunch now.
You are just obviously too witty for me. Such humor! I'm sure all of your friends find you amazingly hilarious.
Unfortunately the rest of us just think you are a dumbass and incredibly stupid, since you aren't even understanding what's written above. You referenced riding in the middle. We were explaining why that is safer than riding on the side. But hey, you get on with your joke-filled masshole bad self.
And since you've obviously never been on a bike, falling causes injury. You know, because your body collides with the ground. But, again, I just don't get the hilarity in wishing traumatic injury on someone or their family member, so obviously I'm the one failing here.
Whatever, say what you want, I'm not going to waste my time defending myself to a bunch of internet strangers, nor do I care what you think of me. Carry on...
Ok, I scrolled past this whole page...waaaaay to many quotes. BUT I find it interesting that the cyclist/sidewalk post sparked more debate then circumcision or spanking. :-/

Another example: The whole "you should just be grateful for having a baby" mentality when someone just tries to talk about one of a million passing feelings they maybe having about their baby or pregnancy that may not be "normal". In general, I agree. My goal in life is to take nothing personally and to remember that what people say is a reflection of THEM, not of me. I don't always succeed (and in fact was very personally hurt by the cyclist comments today).
HOWEVER, when someone says something ignorant, thoughtless, heartless, or dangerous about a group I identify with, I do sometimes feel the need to speak up. I think it matters that we stand up for what is right and call out ignorance, especially when it masks a lack of human kindness for another group of people as "humor".

You know, it's funny. I actually told my normal board how I got into a tiff on here, because it's so out of character for me. I never get involved with fights. I've been around these boards for a long time, and it's very rare something will feel personal to me. I think it's because of the extreme fear I constantly feel about this topic. My cycling is limited because I get so scared. Like your H, Jessher, mine goes for long rides pretty frequently. I am not a worrier by nature, but I am constantly scared he is going to be found dead on the side of the road. I 100% trust him and know he is being as safe as possible - it's the drivers and their complete lack of compassion that terrifies me.

Jessher said it well but I'd like to add something. Today, it is not reasonable to expect that just because you are on the other side of the internet, that people won't find what you say personally offensive or upsetting. It's no different than a stranger, or in this case someone you chat with on a fairly regular basis but don't know well, shouting something you find offensive directly to your face. The medium does not make it ok.
I am a cyclist and I still get Po'd when I have to drive past them. If you are on the road you are required to follow the same rules as cars, which is something many people on bikes don't feel the need to do, thus adding to the aggravation factor. Ie, 'missing traffic' by riding down the center line, going obscenely slow in the middle of the lane, not signaling properly and/or not stopping at signs. So I would certainly never want to hurt anyone, and given that I ride I wouldn't want anyone hurting me either but I definitely understand the irritation. Cyclists should make every effort to travel with traffic, which means keeping up with cars that are going the speed limit. If the limit is 35, and you are riding at 10mph, you are putting yourself and others in danger. I'd expect people to be pissed at me if that were the case.
Also FFFC, I don't even know half of the PP's that commented on this but common sense told me they weren't actually serious about hoping people get hurt. Not sure why anyone ever feels the need to get so up in arms about a comment like that which was clearly worded in a way to make a point, not meant to be taken literally.

I am the same way. I never get involved in internet debates. I feel embarrassed about getting wrapped up in an internet argument today. But it hits so close to home. I know people are jerks and don't like cyclists. It's just rare that you get to hear someone say exactly what they think because they don't realize they are speaking about/against you. And it makes me sad to think that there are many people out there that can't see the husband and father out on that bike right now and only see an inconvenience and someone to yell at.
Mom to 5 wonderful kids: 18ds, 15ds, 13ds, 11dd and baby boy! Why get old when you can get pregnant?
In my city cycling is illegal on the sidewalks. We also have a HUGE cycling community so it's normal to have cyclist in line with traffic.
I have no problems with cyclists behaving like cars in residential streets, it does annoy me when they ride in between the traffic and the curb to pass people (especially at four way stops when there is a line). That is SO dangerous and I worry about their safety when they do that.

No No I don't mean there aren't things that are offensive, insensitive or whatnot. Hell what would be the point if we all agreed. I mean you (not you but in general) think its literally about you and come out guns blazing and ready to pounce. I dunno I think there's a difference.
Wow, just logged on and the cyclist debacle is crazy!
My mom is a triathlete and has gone over her handle bars after a car caused her to swerve, so I definitely see how people were offended. I have to say that for me, I get nervous when passing cyclists, so I understand the angst, but that just got taken to a whole other level.
MY FFFC: My much younger SIL is having a 16th b-day party at my ILs Saturday night and MH and I are going just to keep an eye on everyone but not seem like "old people". I really am considering using my pregnancy as an excuse not to go. I am just exhausted and the party will go until 1 am. But my exhaustion is my own fault since I went to the Fins game last night and stayed until we won in OT!

@Dotgirl2 - I can't believe you've been hit by bikes TWICE. Total sucky - and I'd tell them to get off the sidewalk too lol "Why are you on the sidewalk when there's an entire street to ride in?"
Yeah, twice. Once when I was five years old, living in Boston (must be all those Masshole cyclists...Sorry, couldn't resist ). I was fairly injured in that one given I was so small.
And once down here in DC a few years ago. The cyclist was riding on a crowded sidewalk and had trouble avoiding me because of all the people.
When I interviewed for my last job, my future boss told me that the position was open because the girl who used to work there had been killed by a cyclist. She was jogging on the sidewalk and had earphones in and couldn't hear him if he was telling her to move. Sidewalks and cyclists don't mix well.

I'm just going to second this motion, and agree with everything @Mcsweets just said here. My first language is sarcasm and I can come off as a bit harsh at times. But you cannot hear sarcasm through the internet. And none of you really know my true personality. I do not wish any true ill will on anyone riding a bike or anyone on the board, however I will still get damn annoyed when people are in the middle of the road. Nothing's stopping that from happening.

I think in bigger cities it's different, TONS of people walking everywhere.... especially downtown areas. Our city is just now starting to get lofts and things where people live downtown - we're a little behind

On the topic of cyclists.....I believe there should be a mandatory bike lane on every road. It is extremely dangerous for both cyclists and cars to have to share the same lanes. It's inconvenient to cars, but the most important thing to remember is the safety factor. I do not believe that the cyclists should use the sidewalk, but there should be something done/changed about how the laws are currently stated.
And this is more of an UO, but honestly, mopeds should be illegal. I have more problems with them than bicycles.
In my city (a very small one with tons of tourists so lots of walkers) we have a big problems with people on bikes. The roads are very very narrow and mostly one way and the college students ride all over the roads without following any rules. It's obnoxious and the cops actively ticket. Super dangerous to everyone involved. I get disliking rude bike riders who don't follow the law.
I couldn't be married to a guy that sits around and plays video/computer games. Such a turn off. I don't see the appeal to any of it. Now I know some people won't agree...hence the FFFC.

Ha! I tell my husband all the time I'm grateful he doesn't like video games or golf. I would hate to have to pretend to be interested in his pastimes. Yet the poor active guy is married to a girl who likes to spend waaay too much time on internet forums. He doesn't get it.
I stayed up until 1am last night reading The Exorcist and then was SO FREAKED OUT that I decided my cats playing in the next room were actually a demon come to possess me. I was curled in a quivering ball in the bed. Almost tried to wake up my husband to reassure me but then common sense got the better of me and I fell asleep.
I am a WUSS! I know! You can tease me now, but tease me gently. ;-)
the search function sucks so I don't know if same person does this but, whatever!
1. I think maternity photos are cheesy.
2. By 6:15am I had already eaten 3 pieces of candy.
3. I was eating gummy bears yesterday and DS saw, I didn't want to share so I told him they were my medicine...and he believed it! FWIW even though he is 3 we just don't have candy round the house so he really doesn't recognize a lot of it (except skittles and M&Ms).
@YankeePeach08 - I LOVE maternity pictures!!! I'm a huge picture person - I love wedding pictures too. Even looking at ones of people I don't know lol *creeper alert*

I agree, but take it a flaming step forward. I could not be married to a guy who wasn't a "guy's guy". I love that my man can fix stuff, get greasy working on his own car, labors for a living (carpenter) and overall is very "manly". Now he can also clean up well, but it is rare and makes it even nicer when he does. Never ask him to shave though.
Don't get me wrong those office/executive types have their moments, but if you have to hire a handy man for everything that would drive me nuts.
My BF LOVES the metro type, so when we were in college together it always worked out well because our tastes are so opposite.

I don't mind the occasional video game (we have a PS3 with a few fun games we play together), but I couldn't be with someone who spent the majority of their free time playing video games.
But, I also couldn't be with those "manly men" that are obsessed with cars or motorcycles and fixing stuff. That doesn't excite me at all.
My DH is handy around the house and can fix almost anything, but likes the occasional video game. He's a little bit of everything and I wouldn't have it any other way

Bike lanes are not practical in some places. Such as places who get a lot of snow. City is then forced to plow and salt/sand the lanes. Because it is then part of the road, and then the city gets the added expense which in turns raises taxes. Then you get some idiot who rides their bike in the dead of winter loses control and sues the city for not maintaining the bike lines properly. Lots to take into account for wanting bike lanes, I do love the idea though.

I think I've admitted this on here before, but I slept with the lights on for a month after I watched The Ring. No flames here.
Re: video games and manly men. My H plays xbox occasionally, but its not a daily thing so I don't mind. I consider it his hobby, like reading is for me. I *do* wish he was a little more handy though. He can do small things like change the oil, and he loves doing yardwork and spends all day butchering things so I can't complain too much. I'm jealous of you ladies that never have to call handymen though.

Then only downside is that it only gets done when MH is good and ready for it to get done. Trade-offs.
In my city we have loads of bike lanes so a lot of these problems are minimized (IMO). I do have two sharing the road complaints:
1) Most of the time drivers who are passing cyclists are doing it illegally (a cyclist has the whole lane, if you can't legally pass a car there, you can't legally pass a bike there) *and* they're doing it to speed (most of the streets here are 30 mph with cars going much faster than that way too often.
2) WAY too many cyclists ignore traffic laws and it is NOT helping their cause. If you're a vehicle, then you're a vehicle - even at a red light, even when you want to create your own turn lane, even when you want to pass in a no passing area.
I thought this was flame free Friday? I have to jump in here too.
If there is a bike lane, use it. I have seen lots of bicyclists also break traffic laws and almost hit some because of their actions. Thank goodness I'm have defensive driving skills. To me, if your city doesn't have a bike lane, you are riding at your own risk. I do my best when I encounter bicyclists, but not everyone is as considerate and I would find it very stupid and ignorant if anyone believed that.
I met my husband playing video games. We still play side by side. As for handy mans my ex was one, never got anything done without making him do it. I hate waiting for men to get off their ass to do something. Now I just do it myself.
I couldn't be married to a guy that sits around and plays video/computer games. Such a turn off. I don't see the appeal to any of it. Now I know some people won't agree...hence the FFFC.
Go ahead, flame me >:/
That's my husbands only hobby. I like it because then I can do my own thing. I love tha H is not clingy. And he's very easy to shop for.
I think this is a FFFC: When shopping / researching baby stuff, I want to buy the most expensive one. I like status symbols. I know they shouldn't mean anything, but growing up with so little, I have that "new money" tendency towards labels
Also another one, but this may be an UO: I think Tom's shoes are ugly. Of course they do support a great cause, but I don't think I would never wear them.
March Siggy Challenge .. What I miss the most during pregnancy
My FFFC - my little sister asked if she, her boyfriend, and 2 children could stay in our hotel room with me and my husband on Thanksgiving night (we'll be visiting family). I said "yes" because I can't say "no" when I know she can't afford a room of her own. Well today it was implied that she might ask to stay with us until Sunday. Rather than have to tell her "no" I called my dad to deal with it. Now he is offering to pay for her hotel for the weekend. Yea for not having to be the meanie!!!

I haven't washed my hair since..... Monday? Tuesday? You can't even tell... I used some dry shampoo but I feel like a hobo. Whatever I'm tired and don't want to wait for my cold hair to dry. And I hate hair dryers.
FI and I just celebrated our 7th anniversary yesterday. He has no idea why I haven't wanted to have sex or be close to him for a week and a half now, even last night. I've had a short temper and have just been all around (according to him) frumpy and distant. I told him I'm just not feeling well or that he makes me too hot to be near. Truth is, I was snooping through his phone and found some very upsetting things. We're staying at a friend's house at the moment while some work is being done on our house. I'm trying really hard to stay calm and rationale until we can discuss these in the privacy of our own home. I honestly think this may be the end for us.

I only wash mine a couple of times a week, otherwise (no matter how much the shampoo claims to be "moisturizing") it dries out like straw and I get horrible dandruff.

Re: **FFFC**
Whatever, say what you want, I'm not going to waste my time defending myself to a bunch of internet strangers, nor do I care what you think of me. Carry on...
That in mind, it irritates me when someone takes what a stranger on the internet says as personal. They don't know you and I doubt the random comment was intended specifically for YOU. Another example: The whole "you should just be grateful for having a baby" mentality when someone just tries to talk about one of a million passing feelings they maybe having about their baby or pregnancy that may not be "normal". Maybe that's a UO...
For the record: Neither I, nor @linzerd (speaking for you) don't want any of you bicyclists to be hurt on your bike. Or anyone for that matter. This doesn't mean it's not annoying to have you going super slow on the road in front of me - and that opinion probably wont change.
@Dotgirl2 - I can't believe you've been hit by bikes TWICE. Total sucky - and I'd tell them to get off the sidewalk too lol "Why are you on the sidewalk when there's an entire street to ride in?"

When I interviewed for my last job, my future boss told me that the position was open because the girl who used to work there had been killed by a cyclist. She was jogging on the sidewalk and had earphones in and couldn't hear him if he was telling her to move. Sidewalks and cyclists don't mix well.
I think in bigger cities it's different, TONS of people walking everywhere.... especially downtown areas. Our city is just now starting to get lofts and things where people live downtown - we're a little behind

Don't get me wrong those office/executive types have their moments, but if you have to hire a handy man for everything that would drive me nuts.
My BF LOVES the metro type, so when we were in college together it always worked out well because our tastes are so opposite.
Give me a dirty grungy man any day of the week.
