Semen Analysis - timing

edited October 2013 in Trying to Get Pregnant
We have been TTC since August last year. Got BFP late Jan but had a MC 10 days later. We've been TTC since April - so 7 months.

TTC for DS - though we were labeled "unexplained infertility", DH SA was borderline (it took 2 years & 2 IUIs to get pregnant). I'm wondering if he should get a SA done now so we know if there are any issues... or am I being impatient?

Thoughts?

If you've been trying for over a year, then I see nothing wrong with going to a specialist now. We started trying at the end of November of last year and I m/c'd in April. We started trying again in July. My family doctor said I could wait until next April to see a specialist but she'd suggest not waiting that long. She said to go in January if it I'm not pregnant by then, simply because that can help us see if there are any issues that could be resolved sooner rather than later.

With that said, I just got on thyroid imbalance medication (newly diagnosed) and I might wait a few cycles after getting that under control before seeing someone else.

I would probably get the SA done just for peace of mind. My husband had a poor SA right before we conceived my son naturally after a  little over a year of trying. We just had a repeat SA, because we have been trying for a year for #2. The SA was much much worse 3 1/2 years later.
I would think since you did conceive in January that sperm wouldn't be a major factor, but you never know. My Dr actually recommended the repeat SA to us after 6 months of trying for #2 since we had already had one poor one.

Since you were diagnosed with IF and it took medical assistance to conceive your first, I think you can head back to doctor whenever you feel ready.  Your RE should want to repeat tests since it's been awhile.
