I'm actually thinking about bringing up names with H again tonight. We're mostly at a stand off because I'm stuck on what I really want and he objects to.
The most condensed story is this - my given middle name is Emerson (maternal great grandmother's maiden name). When I married I moved my original last name to the middle name position and took his last name as my own (which is traditionally done by my family). Knowing that I wouldn't have it as a name any more by the point I had a kid - I have always wanted to use Emerson as my daughter's name. MH hates it. The only real reason he has for this is because we didn't choose it together. I can't counter that argument - yes, it would be ideal to choose a name together. But - he has no strong feelings about any names, he's just picking at random from baby name lists. To me, that's not how you name a kid - to me, you choose from your family tree. So, I'm stuck and I can't get unstuck on what I really truly in my heart want.
*sigh* I guess that wasn't very condensed was it.
Anyone have advice on how to get unstuck?
No help but you win...beautiful family name passed down through generations that you gave up for HIS name vs. random name from a book?!?!?!?!
maybe you get to choose a new middle name for him and he gets to name baby out of a book???
My husband and I both love the name, it's my grandfather's name, it's his first great-grandchild, we told him we were having a boy and naming him Arthur, it was a Lifetime moment.
Middle name . . . ? undecided. Vincent, Harlan, and Charles, all family names, are front-runners. But maybe we'll go for something else entirely. We think we're going to wait until we meet him. :-)
more unsolicited advice: Arthur harlan is almost a tongue twister to me (maybe it is just me though)...it may be hard to get out fast if you need to yell at him.
My other problem is, combined with any mn, it sounds like she's royalty.
Quinn Anne, Quinn Elizabeth.
God bless the Quinn!
and we all know the fourth child would never be queen
(I think it would be cute!)
I have about 100 girl names i like and no boy names really. And I need to stop reading these posts because I keep adding more girl names to the list (Emerson and Quinn are now on there).
Dean Christopher, decided at DS1's birth! We knew if we had another boy, we would use our second love boy name. Oh I fought so hard for Dean, and we ALMOST used it as DS1 middle name but we saved it just in case!

What are your thoughts on Lovett for a girl? It was my husband's grandma's middle name. Would have used Phebe (her first name), but SIL who is due in January already snatched it up

Don't love Lovett.

I love Graham. I'm still trying to get DH on board. He likes Charles.
If it's a girl, we're screwed. It took us forever to agree on Maeve. I don't think we can do another round of girl names. We find out next Wednesday.
Team green twins so: Audrey Anne Bridget (Mae?) Elliott Werner Oliver (William?) Anne and Werner are family names on my side. DS is Declan Alexander and his mn is a family name on DH's side. Would love some other mn suggestions.
Cashton because my husband wanted Cash and I just needed somethig a little more haha. Craig is for my dad since my brother won't have any kids with his wife to carry on the family name.
If he were to have been a girl, it'd be Annalynn Rose Gibson
Ann is my moms middle name. Lynn is my husbands moms middle name. And Rose is my middle name.
amymheidecker my DD is Mia Rowan, rough translation is "my little red one" as we thought she'd be a red head. I like your middle names because it would be like "my hope" "my faith" etc. Not sure if that's what you were going for but I love it.
Actually yes! That is what we are going for! The name mia also means the "wished for child" and after all our losses-the name couldnt fit her more!
We had such a hard time naming our son and now, go figure, we are having another boy! DH and I are both former teachers and every name that one of us likes, the other can't stand because it brings up memories of a former "not-so-great" student. We both like Ben but DH wants a formal name and I don't really like Benjamin. I thought about Bennett and calling him Ben but he vetoed it, just like all the names I like. I also like Cooper. I don't like super popular names (even if I like them I wouldn't use them). Girl names are SO much easier for us!
We are both hoping for a girl, so DH and I have very different views on names. He refuses to think about them until he finds out whether it's a boy or a girl (in which case thinking of a name would be absolutely necessary) and I think that we should have names ready for either case. That being said, we are having more trouble agreeing on names we both like than picking out boy names at all. The only things that are set are middle names. Girl = Anne (family name for at least five generations on my side). Boy = Dean (family name for two generations on his side).
The top contenders for a girl are:
Melody Anne
I really like this one, but I originally wanted Charlotte, because I adore the nickname Charlie. Turns out his most beloved dog's name was Charlie.
Lily Anne
This is DH's pick, but I'm not too crazy about it.
For boys, I really like:
Michael
James (my father and brother are both named this)
Adrian
Cameron
Last name starts with a B, so its a little difficult to find something that really flows well. If it's a girl, there's no guarantee that her future name will flow as well as her maiden name does/will, but if it's a boy, well, he's pretty well stuck with it for life, I imagine. ;P
Our child is never going to have a name!!! We can't agree on anything
If I had my way, we'd have Lydia Noelle, or possibly Cora or Violet (with Noelle as the middle name). DD likes Lillana and MH is all on board with that :P but I don't like it and I don't want our 5 year old naming our baby. Plus we call DD Ellie as well as Ellinor and I think Ellie and Lily are too cutsey together.
For a boy we like Ian and Grayson - but aren't totally in love with either. I wish Grayson wasn't so trendy right now because I've liked it for a long time. ::sigh::
Our top contenders are Quinn, Carys, and Beatrice.
DH is staunchly in the Beatrice camp. It means, "she who brings happiness", which makes me all teary. It's absolutely fitting.
I love Carys, but I'm worried I would constantly be correcting spelling/pronunciation.
Quinn is awesome, but I hate cursive Qs. I would be damning her to a life of signing everything with that awful cursive letter.
Most schools aren't teaching cursive anymore so she could go with a printed Q!
Our little girl is going to be Penelope (Penny) Kate. I feel like it took forever to find a middle name that began with a consonant and was short!
ETA: To add my name pick because my pregnant brain can only process one thing at a time!
We like Nora for a girl. Middle name being Ann, Florence, or Gail.
For a boy, his middle name will be David. First name will be either Samuel (Sam) or Henry. I really like Sam and sometimes I love Henry and other times I hate it. DH likes Henry more than Sam.
Jonathan Robert is our pick, we will be calling him Jack (or JJ, because that's how I've started referring to him in my head). Robert is H's name and FIL's middle name.
Although every once in a while I feel like I'm getting cold feet about it. FIL isn't helping. He keeps referring to him as Jackbob (said as if it's all one word), which sounds unbelievably stupid. I know he's just doing it to annoy me, but I'm at my freaking wits end with it and want to change it just to spite him, which wouldn't work anyway.
/vent
Jonathan Robert is beautiful.
My grandpa has a similar style (stupid) nn for me, which is part of my first and middle names smushed into a word. And I LOVE it. Apparently it drove my mom nuts at first, but now its a special thing between us. He is the only one who calls me that and he only uses it in moments of endearment. When I walk in his front door he always smiles big and says " there's my _____." sorta like "Jackbob." I realize this story has nothing to do with what you name your son... I guess I'm just feeling sentimental and sappy tonight.
We're having a girl.. And although my dh is not totally excited.. At least I have a few months to work on him.. We have only discussed a little bit but we've talked about: Lucy Jane Lily Jane Nora Jane
My dh also likes Amelia, but I'm not sold.. Lucy is my first choice..
We are not set on anything yet. I don't want to use a name that is popular and it's hard to find one that I like, as being a teacher makes some names carry more meaning than others. We are big Saints fans and my H really likes Drew Brees. He likes that he is a great team player and respect him as a quarterback. So the only opinion on names that he has given so far is to ask that we incorporate Brees in. I'm fine with that as a middle name and want to honor his actually having an opinion. I suggested Ryland because of our Irish roots and strong Irish last name.
Ryland Brees Corkern
Still not sure yet, but warming up to it. Thoughts and opinions are welcome

I like it but I also like Emmett Lee...
Thoughts?
Cashton Craig Gibson

Me: 28 DH: 27
(Not official with the family or anyone "until we meet her" so we will continue to say multiple names to people. )
We find out next week so far we can not agree on a boys name.
Graham (my pick)
Boone (DS pick)
Barrett (DH pick)
And Edward for the middle name
And for a girl we agree on
Delaney or Laney Ann although our DS prefers Evie
We agree and are set on
Camryn Chatham
( Chatham is where we got married... It's pronounced chatum).
Nn: Cami or maybe even CC
For a boy: Rylin, Sylas or Silas, Grayson, or Liam. Middle name will be Steven.
For a boy, his middle name will be David. First name will be either Samuel (Sam) or Henry. I really like Sam and sometimes I love Henry and other times I hate it. DH likes Henry more than Sam.
Any input?
