16 weeks pregnant - bathing suit

Maybe people who have been there, done that can help me.  DH and I are going on a trip with his work to St. Thomas in December and I'm going to be 16 weeks by then.  I have a one piece bathing suit that I use to swim laps in (would this still fit by then?)   Trying to decide if I need to order an actual maternity swimsuit or not.

Thanks!

  • If this is your 1st, it may very well still fit!

  • With my first I never wore a maternity bathing suit. I wore a bikini and let my belly hang out. I was due the end on sept so I was big!
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I think a non maternity tank would fit but I would worry a one peice would ride up in the croch if your belly has expanded at all. By 16 weeks even in my first pregnancy I had a belly. It was visible but not huge.
  • I still wore my regular clothes at 16 weeks. Everyone is different though. I agree a tankini might be easier to pull off than a one piece, just in case. Have fun! St Thomas is fun. If you get a chance, head over to St John. One of my favorite places I've ever been.

We are definitely going to St. John as we have a mandatory dinner there one night.  Is it a place we should try to spend the entire day?  Is there any must-do things we need to see while we are there?

  • I bought a maternity tankini, but think I was still wearing a regular one at 16 weeks with my first. Second time around I was wearing it much earlier.
  • I wouldn't have been able to. Even though my belly didn't look big at that point, I absolutely couldn't wear non-maternity shirts because they would ride up to my belly button:)

  • You should still be able to fit although you may have a little more of a pooch than you're used to. Stretchy things last a lot longer in pregnancy than say, blue jeans for example.

  • St John is a small island. There's one bus that goes from the port to the top. Hitch hiking is even considered safe there (well, it was in 2004 when I was there). You could spend just a day there I suppose, but I spent 6 weeks there and it wasn't enough! Check out Drunk Bay and Lamesur bay. So gorgeous.
