It gives me the creeps when someone refers to an inanimate object as "sexy." Yesterday on TV a chef kept referring to the food he was making as "sexy." The Taleggio cheese mixture with truffles was "sexy", the way he swirled the filling on the ravioli base was "sexy." Throughout the whole segment I just kept picturing him humping his plate of ravioli.
I lurk parenting and can't for the life of me see how Benedict Cumberbatch is considered sexy. I just can't. I try to see it, I do.
He reminds me of a kid with aspies I used to babysit. Maybe if I watched Sherlock I'd understand...
I have been MIA this week and I love that my first post back has to be this!! I totally agree. I think his face is weirdly pinchy looking. He is a great actor. But the sexy thing...I like ravioli more.
I had to google him because I live under a rock. I'm torn. He's kind of funny looking but he's a brit so maybe he's sexy ugly? I think that's my verdict.
I lurk parenting too and I don't find anyone attractive that they do. I like a lot of those ladies but I feel like I live in a different universe. I'm probably just old.
I haven't been on in forever but I'm home with a sick babe today -- my UO is that I'm tired of one of my FB friends constantly complaining about how tired she is and how rough she has it being a mom. I just don't think FB is the place for those things, especially because it makes her H feel like crap.

I lurk parenting too. I find the obsession with One Direction a tad creepy. Maybe it is because I am old and to me they are boys not men. aren't all but one of them 19?. (I know there are younger women on here and if your in your early-mid 20's then its not really creepy) For me though being 31 they are little boys not sexy men. My niece who is 13 is in love with them so it just seems odd to me when I hear grown women fawning all over them.
Look, he's not sexy in thr traditional sense, it's true. But when you watch Sherlock, it's like a gateway drug. You'll fall in love with certain facial expressions and the little tilts in his voice depending on who he's talking to. Then his voice itself will slowly seep into your soul and envelop you in its velvety richness. You'll listen to him speak and find Sherlock's intelligence intriguing...then later you realize that it's not just Benny reciting lines; he really is that intelligent in real life. There's a moment in season 2 where Sherlock shows his humanity. It's beautiful and heartbreaking and all the written lines in the world cannot do what Benny does in thatmoment. It's so subtle but so amazing. And the spiral begins.
Also, 1D love isn't creepy. Zayn, Niall, and Liam are 20. Harry is 19. Louis is 21. And I fail to see the creepiness. Women in their 30s can fawn over men in their 40s and 50s, but God forbid the men be younger!
We're going on almost a year of this on TB. Can we put it to rest now, please?

I'm old too. For me they are sexy but more in a cute way. If that makes sense? I don't think its creepy just fun and games. For @thepretzelchick
@baker_bride I hate talking in the phone, too. I usually don't answer, and then text the person. I know a lot of people are anti-text, but I'll text all damn day long before I call someone. I have 700minutes a month, and probably don't even use 100.
My UO is that I do not enjoy listening to Adele. Her voice is great, but her songs make me want to plug my ears for some reason. I thumbs down all of them on Pandora.
@thepretzelchick I wasn't trying to be mean and I honestly didn't know this has been debated for the past year. I was simply stating my UO.
Personally for myself I view them as boys not men so its creepy to me. I also don't see the appeal in men that could be my father. But to each their own. I also think there is a HUGE difference in liking their music and thinking they are attractive young men and talking about how you want to bone them on a daily basis. But that is just me.
I haven't seen that level of fawning on this board so it was definitely not meant to offend anyone here.
I'm not a fan of the new trend of driving to a neighborhood (not your own) to get better candy at Halloween. I understand going to your IL's or going to a friend's place to hang as a group. However, the driving in a car to multiple places with the goal of getting the best/most candy seems wrong to me. It has been happening a lot in my town. It was even worse last year with Hurricane Sandy last year, and trick or treating being postponed to November.
I love wearing hoodies. But I think its super suspicious when someone wears the hood up. I always think suspicious not "to keep warm". Dh loves to wear them. It irks me.

I had no idea this was a new thing. In my city everyone would drive their kids to our neighborhood to get candy because it was a one outlet neighborhood that was safer and happened to be the wealthier areas. I guess I just grew up thinking this was the norm.
Yeah, I'm glad to live in an older, smaller neighborhood now. My last two subdivisions were the wealthiest in town, so everyone would drive around it to get more and better candy. I worked every Halloween and even at 9 or 10pm I'd have to dodge little kids walking or cars stalling in the middle of the road. It was ridiculous.

It wasn't like this before in my town. Trick or treating used to be fun. Now, it seems to be dying. I have noticed a lot less of the neighborhood kids, and a lot more vans just doing drop offs/pick ups on our street (with out of state plates). It has turned a lot of people off on my street. It's a shame.

I don't have a problem with people driving their kids to more family-friendly or safer neighborhoods to trick or treat. My mom used to do that with us.
It is sad when the objective is to go as fast as you can to get as much as you can, but that seems to be how our society works in general. Most people are willing participants, so it's not surprising that kids would emulate the behavior.
I don't mind the driving to other neighborhoods thing. Some kids live in neighborhoods where it is simply not safe to go door-to-door. I'm not talking about overprotective, paranoid-for-no-reason parents - I'm talking about legit BAD neighborhoods.
Other places make trick-or-treating challenging, too - I'm thinking of very rural neighborhoods, where kids would have to walk a long way between neighbors.
When I lived in Celebration (the Disney town) we had kids from all over Orlando, Kissimmee, and St. Cloud come. We knew to expect it and were prepared! Orlando has some unsafe neighborhoods and St. Cloud has very rural areas - it just made sense to come to what was basically a large subdivision.
However, if it's people who live in a perfectly fine neighborhood just being greedy or lazy or weirdly paranoid, then there's an issue. Going trick-or-treating on your block is a great way to meet and get to know your neighbors. We don't live in the world's best neighborhood, but we know our neighbors and will for sure be bringing Charlotte around on Halloween! (Yes, we will also drive to my parents house for a visit and possibly hit up some of their neighbors, with whom we are friends, for candy.)
My uo: I think the spending and waste that goes into many Halloween costumes is ridiculous, especially if it's going to be a one time wear type of thing. I was reading an article yesterday about the Halloween costume industry for pets alone being $330 million.

I agree... anything over $50 for a kid costume is a ridiculous. Unless it's for a contest or an adult costume party. Let's not get started on pets...crazy.
My UO - I hate when you're at the store and there's a long line at the register. A new register opens up and the clerk yells over - "I"ll take the next person in line" and everyone towards the back starts racing over.... What part of "next person in line" didn't you understand?? Rude. Call me snooty - but I side eye and have known to neck roll.

I agree that safety is not an issue when driving to a better neighborhood. The latter part of greed seems to be the majority now.
A few towns around us (including ours) now have "set" trick or treating times. I think ours is something like 4-8pm? Some towns end their trick or treating earlier. I mean, no one enforces it,but I have noticed that my town pretty much complies, and most houses are dark at 8.
I can't speak for dc but Chicago has hot spot pockets where there's a lot going on and deserts where people aren't even home. So you basically have to go elsewhere if you want to trick or treat.
Going along with PP about waiting in line at the store; I HATE when people get huffy about waiting in line because someone is having issues at the register. It makes waiting even worse when people sigh every two seconds and look around hoping people notice that they are upset. Get over it.

Who hates on Halloween costumes for babies?? Little kids all dressed up are so adorable! No, it's not practical. It's FUN!
What is not adorable or fun are the working conditions of the human beings who make many of the costumes. I definitely prefer homemade, or second hand, and with pieces that can be worn over and over again.
@Melmarie26 I'm not a country fan but I LOVE Patsy Cline! I designed the costumes for "Always...Patsy Cline" a few summers ago and I fell in love with her music. What a voice!
I wish more people would learn to sew. I agree to make costumes for people and then it gets out of hand. It's my fault but jeez, I'm sick if sewing!

Oh muh gah! I'm glad I'm not the only one on that page. Once a cash register was being dumb and not working so I held up the line (not really me... but you know I was at the check out). This ugly fat dude starts huffing and puffing and said something under his breath...like, "blah, blah... broad". I looked right over and said, "Dude, have some patience!" I was super annoyed, bc he was directing it at me, like it was my fault. Asshat!

I agree. I think the problem is that people are too "go go go!" and can't accept when they are held up in the least bit. If I can be patient then so can anyone else.
I love having public confrontations with people. If you're fucking up, I'm gonna call you on it, and IDGAF who's watching.
Aholes on my street LOVE to park on the sidewalk. I fully tap on their window and and tell them that THAT (pointing to the street) is for their damn car, and THIS (the sidewalk) is for my baby and I. I also tell people to CTFD when they're getting all huffy in a line up. I even yelled at a friggin idiot with a baby on a bike sans helmet. Like WTF is wrong with people?
I'm so sick of the self-centred behaviour I see every day. Some people absolutely HAVE to be told, and I'm happy to be the one to do it. I know it's rude, but I look at it as a public service. If more people did it, people might become warier of behaving like idiots.
My H is totally embarrassed by me, and he's always like "A, please don't..." but he knows it's no use. I have a calling.
Get out of my head! This is further proof that I actually belong in Toronto.
