I agree. Also with 'there', 'their' and 'they're'.
@ozzyinbelgium, Those are bad too, of course. But in my experience, those ones don't get used as much as "your" -- that's why I think that one is the worst. I just think of all of the times I see "your welcome" and I cringe.

When someone type's out "your welcome" to me, I want to respond with "YOU'RE wrong for saying YOUR welcome, but I appreciate YOUR sentiment"
@juliasmama2010, not gonna lie.... I actually have responded with "my welcome...mat?"

My UO is that I think going to the hairdresser (for anything other than colour) is overrated.
Paying $40-$60 for a cut and to style my hair is ridiculous. I can do a better job at home for free.

You may be able to do a better job at home, but I sure can't.  I love my hairdresser, but my cuts are only $41 including tip and I only go once, sometimes twice, a year.

  • Ok I know this will be a very UO because of the way pets are treated like children these days... But I cannot stand it when dogs are allowed up on furniture - couches are bad enough but the idea of a dog in bed is just so wrong to me. And no, I don't currently have a dog, but we always had at least 2 at all times growing up, and they were definitely not allowed up on the furniture. They actually weren't even allowed in rooms that were carpeted. And to make my UO even worse, I don't hold the same opinion about cats.
Whatever you do, DO NOT come to my house!!!  85 lb black lab and 100+ lb great dane on every piece of furniture in the house, including the bed.  And I'm the exact opposite of you.  When I see a cat on the table/counter in a kitchen, I want to leave.  There is NO WAY to prevent cat hair from getting in your food when they're up there and it makes me sick!

  • I hate when people allow their cats to run loose outside.  My neighbour has cats that come and defecate in our garden and kill birds and mice.  There is no reason a cat should be outdoors.  I have a cat and he stays inside... like a good cat should.

  • @sugarland726- I totally agree about ToTing for kids under 1- I honestly will extend that to "can't walk on their own yet"....My DD is just 1 this month, none of my friends with kids are local, and I would feel incredibly dumb pushing her around in a stroller asking for candy. I was discussing this with DH last night because I feel bad not dressing her up or anything, but if anything I'd be buying a costume to go show her off at grandma's house..lol...and the costume I like is so cute too (but way too expensive for just taking her to Grandma's). DH and I said we'll probably take her next year when she might understand a little and baby sister might wind up being the stroller baby next year, but I don't think it's as bad when going with an older sibling.

Also- I love how you explained the kids watching TV thing. Honestly I never thought I'd let DD watch as much TV as she probably does but a lot of times it's just background noise- I don't like a quiet house. And this pregnancy exhaustion is killing me! As she gets bigger and there are more activities I can do to keep her busy away from the TV- it will definitely be more limited...but I'm not judging anyone about their LO's TV time.

    @lolinshag
I love this. My mom HATES chickens/roosters in the kitchen. I collect vintage teacups and I have one with a rooster on it (THE ONLY ROOSTER ITEM EXCEPT SIRACHA IN MY KITCHEN) and my mom won't even use it when we have tea! Why, you ask? Because HER MIL offered to pay to decorate her kitchen when my parents got married...and wanted rooster EVERYTHING. My mom politely declined but has had a rooster-kitchen hatred ever since.

Our indoor cat, Marley, got out this past weekend and hasn't come home. He's been an indoor cat for 3 years and we've searched the neighborhood but haven't seen him. Not everyone lets their cats run wild. Some of them are well loved that somehow get out and don't come home.

  • I have a lame food UO. I really, really, really, REALLY like candy corn. Except for MH I seem to be the only person I know who does. Jelly Belly makes a "gourmet" candy corn (is that an oxy moron?) and I could eat it by the pound.

I'm also really glad this thread taught me what the term, "wanker" meant. Holy crap!

As an after thought I thought about younger siblings. Of course they can go with the older siblings, but I do think asking for candy for the baby still gets a side eye in that situation.

Mickey has taught DD a lot. And on some mornings, allowed one of us to fall back asleep on the couch when she thought 5am was a perfectly appropriate time to start the day. FYI, DD, you were wrong.

Haha, then don't come to my house ;) It was mostly by accident that we started having a rooster theme, but all we have is a rug, curtains, and 1 plaster rooster.

Oh, yes, very unpopular. Our cats are outdoors in order to kill mice. I'd much rather the cats do that OUTSIDE than INSIDE, and I don't have to put traps or poison where the kids are. On the other hand, I live in the country, and it's part of country living.

ETA: I don't agree with letting your indoor cat outside. If it's an indoor cat, keep it indoors.

  • @sugarland726- Yeah I agree about side eyeing collecting candy for the 2nd baby, I think it would be more of a participation activity! But I also don't see me actually giving much candy to my 2 year old either...I've let her have tastes of things but don't really love giving her too much candy.

and Mickey Mouse clubhouse is a favorite in our house- Minnie's Wizard of Dizz and the Clubhouse Road Rally specials are sometimes what allow me to shower without waking up ridiculously early.

Yep, dogs and cats all over the furniture here. I do not allow the cats on anything else (shelves, china cabinet, table, counter) except one shelf by a window that is "the cat shelf" so they can watch the birds.
It probably makes a difference if you're use to outside dogs. Growing up on a mountain side farm, we had outside dogs and they can get pretty dirty, I wouldn't let dogs like that inside anything but a mud room. having inside dogs now, though, is completely different. They get regular baths/grooming and flea treatments, and even regular teeth-brushing. I actually can't stand even inside dogs that do not have their grooming kept up (why did you get a dog with long hair if you weren't going to brush/cut it?)

I forgot what my actual UO was this week.

Have you seen the new Super Hero one? With Megamort? DD calls him the "Bad Bad Mickey." She was totally engrossed the first time she saw it.

I think we still have candy leftover from last year's Halloween, which was the first one we let her ToT, when she was a little over 2 years old. She loves the idea of candy, but she doesn't actually like eating it.

  • My unpopular opinion, that's probably not unpopular, is that I hate how the bump now logs you out every time you close out the browser.  At least for me it does and it is very annoying to me because I always forget and then try to respond and get "you don't have permission to do this" because I'm not signed in.

@Deblondie1 - I hope he comes home soon!!! That's my fear for my two cats. One time the kids left the screen door open but luckily i found the cats in the middle of my lawn in a frozen state of shock. I think after being inside cats for 10 years they were overwhelmed by the concept of being outdoors. Anyway, hope your boy finds his way home soon.

Oh @Deblondie1 I know this and this is a completely separate issue. The cat I am complaining about I know who's cat it is and i know it has a home to go into at night... there are lots of people who think that cats should roam free during the day though and then they come back in the evening. I hope you find your kitty soon.

I meant that even if you're wearing one to avoid underwear lines, it'd be better to just not wear anything, since I've seen more thongs riding above pant lines than regular underwear. Not classy. Under a dress makes a bit more sense but still confuses me, because there are way better options - i.e. seamless, full-coverage undies or not wearing anything. I guess it's more because they just seem trashy or unnecessary to me. And hella uncomfortable.
I wish I could wear seamless underwear under things like yoga pants or sundresses - I have a lot of junk in the trunk and this would not work for me! I think it's better not to have panty lines and I get pretty bad ones wearing anything but a thong in yoga pants.

Also - it really surprises me how so many of you ladies don't know the definition of wanker! You've never heard the term wanking off or wanking it? I guess us Canadians are exposed to a lot more British TV or something, this is surprising to me lol!

My Comment (I'm expecting the quote tree not to work): How about that? I learned something new. I think it more has to do with context and who's saying it. Usually, it's following some other major grammatical or sentence structural error that already has me peeved. Lol

Table & countertops are out for any animal, except fish.  Our dog has managed to get onto the table to snatch leftovers before we have cleaned up supper and I have thoroughly washed the table with a LOT of soap and water immediately after that.  Pets & tables/counters do not mix.

And let me just say I get that people are on a budget and I totally respect that. But don't come to me complaining when the places around your price point are a 3 star in Cuba or Puerto Plata. You're not going to get a 5 star + with butler service and a view overlooking the ocean. You're not going to go to Bora Bora for that price, and it's definitely not going to happen on long weekends/public holidays, Christmas, or March Break. If you want something nice, it's going to come with a nice price tag!!!!

Motto: You get what you pay for!!

I work in retail right now and I completely agree with this one!! It drives me insane. People always think that they are "super speshul" and need some type of deal or discount. You get what you pay for. If you want high quality stuff, you are going to have to pay higher prices. Sure, you might be able to score a good price once in a while if you wait for sales and nobody wants to pay more than they have to, but if you really want that item, you will have to pay what it costs. Also, I don't make up the pricing!

I do notice when someone writes "colour, honour, favourite, flavour etc." It's like I instantly know that they're not from the US. Now that I've typed those words out, they're coming up as misspelled, does it to that to the ladies who are spelling these words this way??

I commented on a post last week about my nursery and wondered how many americans would read it and assume I spelled colour incorrectly.   Just a passing thought.

@AMK1981 I got called out the other day for using "learnt." Nope not wrong we spell it the same way as the people who invented the language ;). I think people realize colour and honour are OK in other countries. I think there are other ones people may not know about though, like how words that end with "ize" in US sometimes end with "ise" elsewhere, or words that end with "er" often end with "re" like centre. I guess Americans would have no reason to know that certain words are spelt differently, but I won't change my spelling because it's also correct (and autocorrect corrects away from American spellings anyway).

@cpm1223 no the spellcheck doesn't catch those words for me. Sometimes if you are on a computer set to American English it does and it's annoying.
