1. As of now (reserving the right to change my mind) I think the weekly check in thread is dumb. Who's reading everyone else's updates? Not me.
2. Pumpkin flavor is out of control this year. I enjoy a pumpkin spice latte as much as the next white girl in yoga pants, but m&ms? Yogurt? Gross. I even saw limited edition baby food the other day!

I read them all (and posted my own). I think it's interesting.
I'm annoyed with people saying they are bored. How do you not have nothing to do? Even as a FTM I was busy doing so much. Anxious for LO to arrive, absolutely, but bored, absolutely not.
And a random one for today. I don't like the movie Avatar. I don't get the hype over it.

Same. I liked it and I normally ignore check-ins.
Yeah... I read through them all, too.
I enjoyed it too, but I only like reading updates from the ladies I recognize. If I have to look up your post count (which I HATE that it's not right under your avitar anymore) then I don't care.
It doesn't bother me in the least if new people join the board now. I'm predicting a lot of members will fall off after their LOs arrive and if someone wants to come now and actively participate I have no beef with that at all. Even if their intro posts are ridiculous.
My UO this week is directed at one or two people on my Facebook because it's the same thing every flipping day.
I do not give a flying can of fucks about your depression because you are clearly far more interested in posting memes telling people they need to "understand" -- never mind many of your friends have been there before -- than in actually going to get HELP.
You have health insurance. You have time. You wouldn't sit around wailing about people "understanding" if you had cancer, so why is this any different? Go get help.
My UO is not from me, but someone I met last night while I was out to eat....THEY DIDN'T TIP!!!! Their reasoning was that they should have a better job and if they didnt like making less than min. wage and they should quit...WTF!? I am so sorry, but this just pissed me off. EVERYTHING pisses me off at this point in the pregnancy
I realize that a lot of these responses are to random newbs asking questions about contractions, but I don't undertstand the canned response of "call your doc" for those who are 37 wks+. If you're safely in the zone to deliver, past when medical professionals would attempt to stop labor, and you don't have a condition that needs to be closely monitored throughout labor, there's no reason to call your doctor because you think you're having a few contractions. Your doc won't even know for certain unless you're hooked up to a monitor and even if you are contracting it could start and stop many times before you actually go into full labor and have a baby. My canned response is "wait it out" because if the contractions go away you're clearly not in labor.
I had been thinking this as well. At my last appointment I asked the question of when should I not worry if I think I'm in labor and he said we'd really be splitting hairs at this point. I'm 35 weeks 2 days. Obviously, I want her to stay in as long as possible, but he wasn't overly concerned.

I'm with you. I've been having off and on contractions the last week and they aren't that painful and they stop after a few hours so I know I'm not in labor.
Can I add that if you do something more strenuous or had a long day of working that it will most likely make you contract this late in pregnancy, but wait it out because they usually go away after some water and propping your feet up for a few hours.

I think there should be more well-paying jobs available for people who want to be hermits. I've decided I like internet people better than real people and would rather work where I don't actually have to see real people. Unfortunetly, not really an option in healthcare...

Wow, that's actually shocking to me!!! Wtf?!?
Seriously, I think my jaw hit the floor. I was a waitress all through high school and college and I never once didn't get a tip. Even if it was just a dollar, that was still a tip. Maybe that was all they could afford? and I was totally fine with that, but I can't believe that there are people out there that think waiters and waitresses don't deserve the same amount of pay as someone who works at McDonalds. Here in Illinois you only get paid $4.50/hour and a lot of the girls work 2 jobs and have kids at home. I wish people were more considerate.
I think flaming people for just now introducing is a waste of time and I half think all the flaming that has been going on is because the board has slowed down and we need to create some drama to pass the day along.

The M&M's are actually really good:) They have just a touch of spice and are not in your face pumpkin:)

I agree that people should tip - the problem I have is that society seems to think tipping should be based on some percentage of the amount I spend. I totally disagree with this and don't tip that way. I feel that tipping should be based on your effort/attitude/attentiveness. I'm not a jerk about it, I understand when there is a full restaurant and not nearly enough staff and don't penalize the waiter/waitress. But if I have to ask for more drink when I've seen you standing around chatting with other staff - I'm sorry but you don't deserve a tip. I've been known not to tip if the service sucks.

I'm sorry, but I have NEVER not left a tip. Years of waitressing and bartending most of the time causes me to way over tip. If I have a problem with the service, then I speak to the manager. People don't waitress for the "fun" of it, it is their livelihood. It is their way of paying their bills. In Kansas, waitresses make about $2.15/hour, so they depend on tips to live.

Maybe this would be my unpopular opinion but I base a tip solely on the level of service I received. I would never allow a poor food experience to impact my server's tip BUT how they handled the issue could. I'd also tip 30% if they were awesome. I feel like, if you know you're working for tips you should make sure that you're courteous and attentive. I will not tip and ask to speak to the manager if I'm treated poorly. If tips were obligatory they'd be included in the bill. I work hard for my money and don't want to give it away for a less than pleasant experience.

I waitressed for almost 10 years while I worked my way through college - I know that tips are a big part of the livelihood. Talking to the manager almost never accomplishes the goal - to improve service. When I said the service sucks - I mean really sucks - hours of waiting, no attention at all. I am usually over generous with my tipping as long as I feel the waiter/waitress deserves it.

I think speaking to the manager turns it into a learning experience. It may not improve YOUR immediate experience, but it may make the waitress better overall so that others do not experience the same bad service. Not tipping is such an "insult" that it is more likely to cause a 'well fuck you too' reaction that actually teach someone a "lesson."

I have never not tipped either. I HATE going out with people who I know don't tip well. It almost gives me anxiety

My FIL is the biggest ass to waitresses and I get so much anxiety before we go out to eat with the ILs. We live a in a smaller town and I actually predetermine where we can go so I know I won't run into anyone I know. I am a barista so obviously I work for tips and it horrifies me how he treats them and then barely tips. I apologize profusely and go over the top to show them my appreciation. It is so embarrassing.

I think speaking to the manager when the problem is actually the waitresses fault is fine, and that the problem is actually something that could be fixed. If you (the customer) are rude to the waitress, expect them to only pay attention to you and are obnoxious in the restaurant, don't expect the waitress to be all happy about serving you. Being in the restaurant as a guest does not make you entitled to anything. The waitress/guest relationship goes both ways and all should be respectful. They are your waitress, not your bitch. If there is a problem with the food, it is not the waitresses fault. Be polite to them and ask for the problem to be fixed instead of yelling at the waitress for something that they had no control over. This was my biggest pet peeve when I was a waitress.
@Cfox815 I totally agree. The tips should always be based on the total price of the ticket. I don't think that people realize how much a waitress would make if they didn't get tips. The % should be the base amount of the tip. If the waitress did a good job then I would tip more than the 15%, but never less than that.

My dad used to be a horrible tipper as well until ALL of his daughters at some point waitressed. I used to check his credit card slips and if he didn't tip enough I would put some more cash down. Then I would give him crap about it. He has gotten much much better over the years.

My SIL is the same way.. I hate going out to eat with her because I feel bad for the waiter/waitress.
I always tip, but the amount depends on the level of service. I worked as a waitress/bartender throughout college so I realize that people live off them, but I also got sick of the handful of girls I worked with who always bitched about how little they were tipped (and by comparison how much I was tipped). These were the same girls whose customers had to ask for a refill 3 times, who would hang out in the back flirting with the cooks, and generally not giving a shit and giving really bad service. Whenever they would bitch about it I would point out that I generally try to be on top of my shit when I'm working and would point out things like when I got their customers refills because they were too busy dicking around in the back.
I tip well for average service, and very, very well (usually including a note along the lines of "Great Service!" etc. because I know my manager read our receipts) for great service. But I don't think twice about tipping 10-15% if the server sucks--- and by sucks I mean really sucks-- I let a lot slide.
I think I may have said this before, I don't remember... I hate chevron pattern. I don't think its cute and I hate that its become a fad and I can't find anything cute that doesn't have chevron on it.

..... Except when you tip, you're not just tipping your server, you're tipping your food runner, your bartender, your busboy and possibly the host/hostess and the captain.
So you're screwing a lot of people out of money they depend on.
More so, the server pays taxes on their sales. So they are paying taxes on money they never made.
Again, you are punishing people because you don't like the tipping system, which is fine, if you decide to never go out to eat again.
My motto: Don't f*ck with people who handle your food...
I'll admit there was one time I didn't tip. But the girl was AWFUL!!! We sat for 30 minutes before she even came over (it was busy so I was still good at this point), then we ordered two waters and said we were ready to order, but she refused to take our food order because she had left her pad in back. She came back 20 minutes later with our waters and finally took our order, during that time, I saw her standing against the back wall doing nothing. It then took us another 45 minutes to get our food during which her butt was pretty much attached to the back wall and our food was COLD! I mentioned the cold factor and her response was to shove her boobs in DH's face and ask how his was. I shot him the death eye and he agreed with me. Her response was to just walk away. Didn't see her again until she brought the bill, which she just dropped off without stopping. We paid and I called the manager the next day, but no tip for her!

I refuse to go out to eat with people that behave this way. Once I see that behavior demonstrated you will never catch me at a restaurant with them ever again.
I want to enjoy my dining experience and not feel like I'm on pins and needles the whole time just waiting for some form of jackassery.
Ditto what CFox said about tipping - if you stiff your server you are actually costing them money because they are going to be taxed on the tips that are assumed you made on the sales from that table. No matter how bad the service is, I don't think my watier/waitress should have to pay for the privilege of me having sat in their station. If it's that awful, speak to the manager.
I hate when people on FB post pics of just themselves every other day. How vain can you possibly be! Also, I hate it when you go out to lunch or dinner with someone ad they say to split the check when you have had the cheapest thing on the menu and water. Meanwhile they order the most expensive thing, an appetizer, and two or more glasses of wine! I'm not cheap, but come on, really!!!?!

People like this make me furious!!!! I served and bartended all through college! I probably would have flipped out on them!

I always tip at just about 20% no matter what. This is exactly why I do, I can't imagine having to live off tips. (I've had my fair share of a few crappy jobs but have never worked food service.)

eh, why not - this looks fun.
This is not always true. At least at the restaurant I waited at, we gave the chefs $.25 for every ticket we opened (or every person or something), and the busboys/hostesses got like 1% of our total sales, plus X amount if people ordered drinks went to the bartender, so they all got paid whether I got a tip or not.
I have not tipped before. I absolutely think the amount of tip depends on the service. I generally tip 20-25%. I will not fault the waiter/waitress because the food was overcooked, or the kitchen gave them the wrong side, or something else out of their control. I will fault the waiter/waitress for crappy service. One time I remember not tipping (possibly only time I've not tipped - but this was recent, so I remember it!), the waiter seemed to write off our table, so he didn't get a tip. We got sat, then they brought us water, then we sat there for 30 min. He finally came and took our order (after visiting tables that were sat after us). The food took another 30-ish min to come out (tables who were sat after us in his section had been fed and got their bills, paid and left before we got our food), and when the food did come, it was cold and looked like it had been sitting waiting to be taken out for a LONG time. After we got our food, the waiter never came back to our table. He literally filled water glasses of the tables next to us, walked past our table without even looking at us, then filled water glasses on the table on the other side of us. We even had to call another waiter over to bring us our check, because our waiter refused to acknowledge our table. So yeah, he didn't deserve a tip, IMO (unpopular or not!).
My UO, I secretly judge people who are vegitarians. I don't mean to but meat is so good.
::snip::
On the flip side, I'm a vegetarian who totally secretly judges meat-eaters. My (probably very) UO: eating dead animal flesh is gross, a waste of resources, and unhealthy. Pigs are smarter than most dogs, and I would never consider eating my dog, so how can I justify killing and eating something capable of even more thought and emotion than my pup? ::putting on flame-resistant suit for this one!::
ETA: I don't mean to say there is a never a situation where eating meat makes sense -- I recognize everyone's situation is different.

You have health insurance. You have time. You wouldn't sit around wailing about people "understanding" if you had cancer, so why is this any different? Go get help.
And that makes me a cold bitch, indeed.
Can I add that if you do something more strenuous or had a long day of working that it will most likely make you contract this late in pregnancy, but wait it out because they usually go away after some water and propping your feet up for a few hours.
My Blog: Whispers from a Working Mom
Maybe this would be my unpopular opinion but I base a tip solely on the level of service I received. I would never allow a poor food experience to impact my server's tip BUT how they handled the issue could. I'd also tip 30% if they were awesome. I feel like, if you know you're working for tips you should make sure that you're courteous and attentive. I will not tip and ask to speak to the manager if I'm treated poorly. If tips were obligatory they'd be included in the bill. I work hard for my money and don't want to give it away for a less than pleasant experience.

I have never not tipped either.
I HATE going out with people who I know don't tip well. It almost gives me anxiety
---------------------
My FIL is the biggest ass to waitresses and I get so much anxiety before we go out to eat with the ILs. We live a in a smaller town and I actually predetermine where we can go so I know I won't run into anyone I know. I am a barista so obviously I work for tips and it horrifies me how he treats them and then barely tips. I apologize profusely and go over the top to show them my appreciation. It is so embarrassing.

My UO, I secretly judge people who are vegitarians. I don't mean to but meat is so good.
Also if it's meat you've hunted, raised or bought thats was all natural, hormone/antibiotic free and rasied humainly then who not eat it?
It's full of protien and iron!
Bacon bacon bacon!
::putting on flame-resistant suit for this one!::
ETA: I don't mean to say there is a never a situation where eating meat makes sense -- I recognize everyone's situation is different.
