How long do you plan to work before EDD?

I know this is so far off and probably not even a thought for some people yet, but how long do you plan to (or will you have to) work before your EDD?

I am a teacher and last time summer break started when I was 32 weeks so I didn't have to deal with the discomfort at the end at work.  I had awful carpal tunnel and zero feeling in my hands, if that happens again, I don't know how well I will be able to work.at the end.  My doc is pretty awesome and I think if I got too uncomfortable would write me off before my EDD if I needed it.

Re: How long do you plan to work before EDD?

  • As long as possible.  I might cut back my hours a bit, really my doctor and I already spoke about this...I'm gonna do whatever he says to keep these babies in for the long haul.

  • I'm fortunate that I have tons of flexibility to work from home (I work in IT) so I will likely just start working from home full time once I hit 37 weeks.  That's what I did last time and I worked until the day I went into labor.

  • I had pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH) last go round, so I was on bed-rest for about a week and a half before my scheduled induction. This time I'd really like to skip all of the PIH crap and work until I can't anymore. I lost about 35 lbs before getting pregnant this time so I'm hoping that will help me avoid PIH.

As long as possible. Last time I worked up until Friday and gave birth on Sunday. And this time I'm only working part time, so I'm hoping to make it that far again.

  • We'll see what happens, but I'd like to work until about a week before my EDD. I'd use that last week or two to finish getting everything ready for the baby.

  • My water might break at work. I changed jobs in June so unfortunately that limits the amount of time I can take off with the baby. I want every second possible with my baby!

  • I nanny a few days a week from my house. I told my families I would be available until the 1st of may. I'm due the 15 and DS came a week early so I'm hoping I'm giving my parents adequate time to find another sitter until August when I'll pick back up again.
  • I was going to work up until delivery but with me not going back to this job, I think I will have to have some kind of cut off date.  I want to work as long as possible though because I don't want to be sitting around and just waiting!

  • I will have to work as long as possible.  I am hoping my boss will let me work from home some.  I just can't afford to take time off before the baby is born.

  • I'm going to work as long as I can. I found out that I will be delivering at the hospital across the street from my office, so I guess it can't hurt to stay as long as possible. I don't have paid maternity leave, so I want as much time off with the baby that I can get.

  • I think I'm going to quit in Feb/March. We are planning on moving to a new place around that time, so it'll give me some time to unpack and get the place ready for the baby. I wanted to work through April or as far as I possibly could, but DH thought it would be nice if I could have some time to myself before the baby comes. I actually think I might become more of a nervous wreck when I have nothing to do all day.

  • With my first, I worked from home starting in week 38, because I HATED driving. I was induced at 41 weeks. I worked until 1:00 on a Wednesday and checked into the hospital to begin my induction at 10:00 that night.I probably would have worked even longer that day, but my boss told me to go. Since I didn't feel anything, but huge, I didn't feel like I had a good reason not to work.

  • I was actually just thinking about this - I 'm glad somebody posed the question! Seems to be normal for people to work right up until the baby is born... permitting it's medically ok. I've been having a little bit of anxiety about when/where/how I'll go into labor... I mean, it's so far away but it's where my mind is going for some reason. I did think about what if my water breaks at work, how uncomfortable!!
  • Just depends on how my SPD is doing. I only work 4 days/month but it's retail so I'm on my feet walking for 9 hours. I plan on working until I go into labor if all is well.

  • I can take 20 (work) days before. If i took them all, I'd be out 4/24.
Realistically, I'll probably work until somewhere around May 1st. I've been saving my sick days for 6 years, so I'm taking what I can get! Afterward I'll use the 20 I can use post-baby, and it will take me right up to summer break :)
    BabyFruit Ticker

  • I will clarify by saying that I can use 20 days before and 20 after- I can't use more after by taking less before (does that make sense?) So there is no point in me working closer to my due date if I have the time to take.
    BabyFruit Ticker

  • I'm a teacher and we aren't allowed to use days before we actually have the baby. It kind of sucks since I have been saving up days but am due 6 days before school gets out.

I don't know how I will work 10 hour days on my feet with a giant basketball but we'll see!

This is me too! Luckily, my business is largely seasonal, so there won't be too much to do in May and June....I'll be working up until my due date though!

  • I work with level 1 special ed children which means children who are very violent. Due to this I am going on maternity leave in 3 weeks! Luckily my husband makes enough money that we don't NEED my income. Plus I am hoping to get a full time teaching position next fall so maybe I won't even be going back to my previous job.
  • Up until I deliver. Want to maximize my time off with the baby. Last time baby came 2 days before my due date (and thankfully my water didn't break at work like 2 other girls I knew!). #:-S
  • as long as i can reach the keyboard on my desk. i drive to and from work and sit at a desk all day, so i'm not strenuous at all. i'm a retail buyer so i might have to decline going on some of the buys at around april because i usually have to get the train into central london, then the tube, which i doubt will be as straight forward as usual when i'm getting towards full term.

In all likelihood I'll see clients up and until a month before EDD and then 2 weeks of paperwork and then be off for 2 weeks prior to EDD.
