First time mothers don't usually feel the baby move until 18-20 weeks. I started feeling movements early (around 16 weeks) but this is my third pregnancy.
Is it normal for a typically active baby to move barely at all for about a day so far? I'm a FTM and 22 weeks along. Sorry if someone has mentioned this earlier, I haven't had time to read any and on my way to work, just was hoping for a little piece of mind. I can usually feel LO move when I wake up, have breakfast, when I get home from work and sit on the couch, and when in laying in bed to go to sleep. I know that their patterns of movement change but I still can't help but worry..
DS is now 20wks along and definently going strong. DH says he watches my chest rise at night while i sleep than when i breath out he can see my stomach bounce... ha ha
I am SO grateful to this post!! I'm 20 weeks today and while I've had lots of internal feelings I honestly couldn't tell you if one or the other is the baby. People keep asking me if I've felt movement which makes me feel almost pressured to have felt it by now...people have even said "Really?! You should definitely have felt it by now!" This makes me feel like A. a loser because I haven't lived up to an apparent expectation and B. worried that something is wrong. I'm a first timer, can't people have some freaking compassion!?
Anyway -- THANKS A MILLION for everyone's comments here! So helpful! I do not feel alone, or weird, or like a loser! LOL
I just got kicked!!!! For the first time!!! I'm so excited!! I've felt a little movement here and there but this was a kick! Ill be 22 weeks tomorrow, I feel like this has taken forever!
I'm at 21 weeks and very faint movement for me as well. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude about it but I can't deny I'm left concerned a lot of the time. Hang in there! Is this your first baby too?
Last night my husband and I were up late watching Walking Dead and we felt little bubbly pings and pangs lol! Im not sure how to describe it but we both felt something other than indigestion hahaaa
20w6d and just felt my first "kick"! I found out last week I have an anterior placenta. Like others have said, I've felt some flutters/rumblings, but nothing I could confidently say is/was movement. This week those feelings got more intense. Laying in bed now, they got pretty strong, so in placed my hand on my belly and felt a definite, "strong" kick! Yay! DH tried to feel, but no luck, and things quieted down. I'm sure he'll feel in the next week or so.
First "official" movement: Friday Oct. 11th at 21w5d! HALLELUJAH!!! It's about damn time!
Felt a few "jabs" and then lots of fluttering since. Such an amazing experience & can't wait to share it with DH!
Anyone know when "outsiders" can typically feel it? <--Note: anterior placenta so haven't had the typical experience with movement thus far but just curious when this has happened for others.
I've been feeling LO for a few weeks now, some days more than others. I can even see it, which is really strange. Last night as I was laying in bed, my stomach did the wave. It kind of creeped me out.
I probably was able to first feel flutters of our LO around 20 weeks or so. You know, when you think you feel it, but you're not quite sure? Now we're at 23 weeks and a few days and not only can I feel him all the time, but we can see him! He likes to get really active in the evening, after 8pm or so... crazy!!
I felt my first DD move around 20 weeks for sure first time around, I think I had been feeling things move for a long time but wasn't confident enough. I am 21 weeks and felt baby move around 16 weeks this time, I think I was way more in tune this time - there was about a week I didn't feel anything which sucked but now I feel something every day. I wish I trusted my instincts more with my first baby as I didn't let myself believe baby was actually moving as it is all too surreal.
Second time around - I am enjoying the little wiggles now and am confident that's what they are but not looking forward the more violent movements, my friend called her little one 'Baby Kickpuncher' for the last 2 months. My DD had hiccups in my belly quite a bit, at first they were cute, then they hurt my ribs.
I'm 21 weeks and I have been feeling baby move for about 3.5 weeks now. This is my 2nd He's pretty strong and consistent now but won't budge when my hubby lays his hands on my belly lol
This is my first, and I started feeling him/her at about 17, almost 18 weeks (I'm 21 now). Now this little wiggle butt will not stop moving! Daddy can feel him/her and we can both see the movements in my abdomen too! I'm also very tiny, which probably helped with early detection (only 108 lbs right now, I've gained 11 since conception).
I am 21 weeks and I think I am finally starting to feel my LO move around. It's hard to describe it because it doesn't feel like fluttering but more like bumping around inside my tummy. All I know is that it is a feeling I have not had before.
She's moving around all over the place. So much so that it sometimes makes me feel like I'm nauseous. Like when you're stomach is upset and won't stop turning. But I'm not complaining. Happy to be feeling her!
This little guy is soooo much more active than my last two! I will get a kick to the stomach and then a punch to the cervix - he is everywhere!!! I love it!
Expecting Baby Boy Ciardi 2.1.14
Proud big sister Caroline (10) & big brother Jack (8) anxiously awaiting his arrival!!
I missed out on the flutters stage mostly. At 21 weeks now little boy is kicking up a storm though they still are pretty light and I really have to be still to feel them. Yesterday however he kicked so hard it made me jump a bit while sitting in church!
I am 21 weeks and 6 days, and I haven't really felt what I would say is movement, I have felt flutters and bubbles (the only way to describe it)! I can't wait to say, that was definitely the baby.
I FINALLY felt LO last night - for real, no doubt, inside and out 23 weeks today. I too have an anterior placenta, but am slender so I was hoping and waiting (and worried to some extent in the 4 weeks between doc visits). I have my apptmnt on Friday, but feel better now.
It's been a week or so since I have felt my baby move. I just wanted to ask you guys, is the movement constant or a few times a day. I usually feel my baby in the morning and at night. Twice a day? Probably? Is that ok? Normal?
I'm 22 weeks and apparently baby likes the sun as started moving (and kicking) on day 2 of our holiday in Cuba.....have noticed that I feel a lot more if I need a wee as baby objects to less space! I've experimented with earthquake simulation of the bump.....not recommended as baby gets the right hump and deliberately dances on my bladder as pay back lol
I am having an extraordinary amount of back pain tonight and am thinking it is kicking. Maybe I am getting my kicks to the back? Maybe that is why I only feel baby around twice per day and they are so faint? What do you guys think?

I've been feeling baby move for quite awhile now probably since 16-17 weeks but I'm now starting to notice that every day right about 650am she wakes up and does her workout. She kicks like crazy for about 15-20 minutes and its hard enough to wake me up. She must take after DH because I am NOT a morning person.
I had to share a story about baby moving last night! So, I've been feeling her move for a few weeks now, but everytime H puts his hand on my belly, she stops, or he can't feel it because of AP. Last night, I was on my side, and he had his whole arm around my belly. I was just about asleep and she decided she wanted to flip or something. It was enough movement to startle me awake, and H was like 'OMG, I felt THAT!' Apparently he felt it more in his forearm than anything, which he said felt weird. I was like... Yeah, so now you know why I sometimes jump for no reason... Super happy he got to feel huge movement, since he'll be gone the next 3 weeks!

My DH bent down to quickly kiss me and my belly good bye this morning. I told him quickly "oh she's right there!" and Bam! She kicked him in the mouth! It startled him and it was hilarious. This was only the second time he's felt her so far. Funny way to start the day!
Does anyone still not feel anything? This sounds silly but every time I think I do (I have an anterior placenta so that's part of the not feeling anything), I have gas like a minute later. Could it still be the baby and he's somehow making me extra gassy? Or am I strictly just feeling gas?
@djtippietoes the first movements felt like gas to me. i really remember texting hashtagrainbow about how i thought i was feeling baby move or possibly the mac and cheese i ate is digesting. turns out it was baby. try drinking some gatorade or juice- if you feel "gas" pretty soon after, that's probably baby!
a close friend of mine had her baby 11 weeks ago, and she had anterior placenta too. she didn't feel like she was feeling real movements until 28-30 weeks. as much as it sucks to hear it, hang in there!
