Re: The Baby Movement (or Lack Thereof) Thread!

  • Well that was a crap nights sleep - LO was so active it kept waking me up by kicking and flipping and who knows what!

Normally it's most active just after I've eaten, drunk anything....like it gets a little energy boost :) Last night, while great to feel it be so active, would've been nice to actually get some sleep! Between wriggly LO, an attention seeking cat and the other half who'd been out drinking, I'm exhausted!!!!

  • Anyone else getting a little freaked out by how variable the movement is? I've had a couple very quiet days, and it always makes me nervous, even though I know it's totally normal! I had a totally irrational pregnant meltdown earlier because baby has been pretty quiet today. I went and laid on the couch and did a kick count and yeah... It was totally fine. I think she just already likes giving me a hard time! Ive gotta figure out how to get this anxiety under control!

  • @suzyqq02 yes! I'm right there with you...I've been anxious and had a breakdown thinking something is wrong. LO has been really quiet yesterday and today. She's still moving but not as active as other days.
  • Ladies - it's LO's weekend too remember, they're having a relax just like we are :)
  • At about 24 weeks I had the same thing. At my 20 week appt my baby was breech and myself and husband could feel her often and intense. I think she must have turned now and has more space so I feel subtle movements now more frequently than big strong ones.

  • Just got back from the midwife appointment - they were feeling bump and checking baby's positioning, LO objected to being woken up and booted the midwife several times :)
  • I felt slight movement around 17 weeks , nothing major .. I am now 26 weeks and feel constant movement but some times I know he is going to flip in a postition that I cannot feel one reason is that I am over weight so dont worry to much once you hit 28 weeks you should feel movement everyday

  • This little boy is practicing his punting againt my ribs!!!

  • I was at 16-17 weeks when I started noticing some movement. It was little flutters, at first. Now, at 26 weeks, when I feel my son, his kicks are much more powerful and can certainly be felt by me and other loved ones in the family. Sometimes, I've looked down at my tummy and could actually see the movement as it happened.

I wonder if he'll be a Kung Fu master when he's born? Who knows about babys? :)
  • I started feeling movement at 15 weeks. The placenta is posterior and she is pushed right up against my belly so I feel a lot. My husband has been able to feel her move since about 20 weeks. The other day we just laid in bed watching my stomach move. I like to set things on my stomach and wait for her to knock it off. The last couple days she's been quieter. But it happens. At this stage she's supposed to be sleeping 80% of the time. So I try not to worry. I play her some music or drink some orange juice if I need to feel her move.
  • Anyone else's LO do a happy dance when they go pee? I swear if I want to feel my little girl kick all I have to do is go to the bathroom.

Maybe she's happy my bladder is taking up less room.
  • Me too - though I also get the grumpy baby dance on the expanding bladder if I don't get up and go as quick as LO wants :)
  • OMG I am 26 weeks and the movement is insane!

26 weeks this week and freaked out by how irregular the movements are....Some days she is super active and others I don't feel her and it freaks me out. I know it can be normal especially if you have an anterior placenta like I do...but it's crazy how it scares me! Do you have any tips to getting yours to move? When I was drinking hot tea last week it would make her move like crazy and now not so much this week
  • LO is usually super active and super predictable. Unfortunately, I have barely felt him today and I am starting to get worried. I just had a can of soda like an hour ago + food and I haven't moved from the couch either. Usually he's be jumping around but I'm not feeling anything.

How long is too long before I get concerned enough to call the OB? I'm thinking that if I don't feel him by morning that I'll call first thing. I know that movement varies, but he has been so regular I'm just really worried.

I'm mobile so sorry if it's in your ticker but how far along are you? My OB said I should be getting daily movement @ 28weeks. Even if it's just a little bit. Try some OJ. I know soda doesn't do it for my little one but very cold water or OJ gets baby jumping. As always if it bothers you, you can always call the dr. That's why they are there! Good luck! My fingers are crossed little one starts groovin for you!
29 as of yesterday. He started getting really active about 2 weeks ago. Thankfully last night he did finally move around some and this morning he was bouncy as all get out. I just worry so much sometimes :/

  • I don't know but I'm freaked out my baby isn't moving at all today ..., I'm going to try laying on my left side I pray that you get some movement
  • Anyone getting kicked in the ribs yet? I have been in pain in my ribs and back I think it's where she is. Or could this be BH?

I felt my baby girl had established a good pattern of going crazy, esp kicks to my right side, every morning and then a few times throughout the rest of day. Then I had a few quiet days where I was feeling movement but not a lot of kicking. I assumed she'd just changed position and was maybe kicking towards my back. I mentioned it when I was at the dr last week so he did a u/s and the tech said everything looked fine. However, this is still how she's been -- a fair amount of movement, but no kicking. The dr said to call if anything "doesn't seem right," but because it's been a week of this, maybe this is just her new normal?  I am still a bit worried, but I assume because things were fine during the u/s that I shouldn't worry??  That's hard to do!

    FYI, I'm 27 weeks.

  • Sakura0019: Thanks!  This does make me feel a bit better. It seems the only time she really kicks now is if I'm squishing her. This morning I must have squished my belly too much while sleeping because she gave me on hell of a kick. But other than that, just alien movements these days!

  • I am feeling the same. The spinning and moving it makes me feel like I'm on a boat

  • I remember at month 4 or so I could feel flutters and it was so exciting, not that it's not fascinating now but foot jabs (feet in which seem inherited by me, long and skinny) in the ribs and stomach period get a lil uncomfortable from time to time. Hubby likes to push and feel her kick back but it's a lil tough on me from time to time...
  • We have a ninja octopus....I poke the bump every now and again and get instantaneous kicking, punching and headbutting in response :)
  • I accidentally posted this separately instead of on this baby movement thread. Whoops! Anyway, I just hit 29 weeks on Thursday. I've noticed that I am feeling my LO much lower than I was before. Lots of movement right above my pubic bone. Could this be because she has turned head down? Just curious if anyone is experiencing the same thing. FTM here! Also, as others have said, I am feeling more pushing than kicking recently.
  • jrosa1- I started feeling movement much lower last week, and for me it was because baby flipped to breech. I think he's back to head down now, because I'm getting kicked in the ribs again.

  • How can you tell if the baby is breech? Is that something to be concerned about this early?
  • I had volunteered as a practice patient for the health science college near me so the ultrasound students could practice OB ultrasounds.  My appointment happened to be the day after I noticed the change in movement. My baby had been head down the week before according to my doctor. Most doctors aren't worried about baby being breech until 36 weeks or so. No need to worry yet. :)

  • Can I just say that I'm finally (FINALLY!) feeling more regular movement.  Now dude just needs to work on his growing.
This made me smile. Sooo happy for you!! Sending growing vibes to your little guy!

  • I found out that my baby was breach at my last ultrasound during week 26.They told me not to work, he has plenty of time to turn around. Now at week 29 I think he is still breach. I feel his kicks towards my pelvis. My prayer is that he turns by at least week 36. If he doesn't then I guess I'll plan for a C-section.
  • @Nene49 For what it's worth, I had a u/s at 28 weeks and they said the baby was breach. Then, like 15 seconds later I felt movement and the tech was like, 'oh, now she's head down.' I think she was transverse by the end -- she just kept moving around!  At least in my case, they said she still has plenty of room and time to move, so I wouldn't worry for a while!

  • Random question- my OB said I should report to him if I feel decreased movement. I know I should have asked him this and I will in my next appointment but until then wanted to know- what would you ladies consider decreased movement? Is it like 1 kick instead if 5 in one hour? How do you decide if the baby just lazy vs. serious decrease in movement?

I feel the baby regularly but at times he's very quiet and I'll feel one kick barely in an hour or many hours. And that may happen one day but then
next morning he is all bouncy again so I have not been very worried. But now that I'm 33 weeks I just want to keep a closer watch on his movement but am very confused when it is a concern vs not. The general instructions from my OB are call if you feel no movement in 6 hours. So if I feel just one kick in that 6 hour is that not decreased movement?

Just looking for some general advise based on what your OB has asked you to do.
  • Thank you. I think I feel movement pretty regularly now but will certainly call if I have any doubt whatsoever. What confused me is that my OB's instructions were a little vague. He just said call if you feel no movement in 6 hours and keep an eye if I felt decrease in movement.
  • So question for you all. Baby hasn't always been easy to feel. Now at 33 weeks, I feel her, but I feel like her kicks were a lot stronger before. Now I know I feel her roll, and thump, but only a strong kick here and there. Has anyone else had this? My placenta is front lying so my OB told me before once a day is fine, but the other day when I called she said I should feel more. I am...but not strong ones. Ugh. :(
  • I'm 32 weeks & I have the same thing going on its so Irritating sometimes I just want her to kick momie so I know everything is okay counting doesn't even help ... Then by night time shes up moving.
  • Same here but when I went into my doctor she said that my baby was very active with a strong heart beat I just couldn't feel her.
