This is most likely just pure anxiety

I visited a public restroom at the local mall the other day. I never sit on the toilets, and I try to make certain that my clothes don't touch the edge of the bowl either. This particular disgusting bowl had what appeared to be a dried streak of menstruation blood down the front to the side. I tried to be careful and not let my clothes or skin touch it, but I have anxiety issues on the best days so its been bothering me. I did look at the line of dried blood and didn't see that any was pulled away.

It took a while to get home, but when I did, I washed the area with a lot of alcohol and I didn't see any blood on my clothes. I did take the precaution of using the sanitation features on my washer and dryer. So I am not worried about the clothing. My skin back there has appeared to be unbroken as well.
Are there any health professionals around to reassure my worried brain about the likelihood of having become infected with anything. I realize this is fairly irrational, but that is generally what anxiety is.

Re: This is most likely just pure anxiety

  • I'm not a health professional, but if you're skin wasn't broken and didn't come into contact with the dried blood, you're fine.  If you're that anxious, perhaps a call to your doctor?  I know my OB/Midwife specifically asks about anxiety during the first appointment, as it can get worse during pregnancy and they want to make sure that women get any help that they need before it becomes an issue.  It sounds like maybe you need someone to talk to about this.

  • I understand what it's like to have anxiety. And you definitely do. There's pretty much zero risk from what you've described. You're fine.

  • Thank you ladies. I called my insurances nurses line. Remarkably helpful thing to provide. I forgot about it until a few minutes ago. The lady I spoke with was very kind and understanding. She also told me that I had good reason to be concerned, but from what I told her, there should be no risk. She told me to report it to my Doctor because I am pregnant.
