  •  I don't get celebrating Halloween and dressing up in costumes.  For that reason my kids will not be in costumes on Halloween.

  • On that note, I remembered mine!

I am all for dressing your kids in cute clothes but I don't get dressing infants and toddlers in what I would call "overly trendy" outfits. I've seen a lot of it on Pinterest. There will be like 2 or 3 year old girl in skinny jeans that are tucked into slouchy boots and an oversized sweater and a big knit scarf.

They look like little tiny celebrities in a tabloid. Just add gigantic sunglasses, a purse and a Starbucks and you're set.

Is it cute? Yes. Can I see dressing them that way for a special occasion/photo? Yeah probably. In everyday life? Nope, I don't get it.
  • @smg2302 I'm right there with you on the baby weight. I just don't care at the moment. That changes about once a week but oh well :)

  • Well I guess my UO is I totally love babies dressed in grown up clothing. My LO wears adult clothes when she goes out of the house, jeans sweaters even dresses with tights..not scarves that's just stupid and dangerous. At home when she's rolling around and squawking like a parrot then she's wearing a onesie or a sleeper.

  • I get annoyed with all the theories out there... Don't hold your child or they will be spoiled, Hold your child or they will never have healthy relationships with others, Sleep train or they will never sleep EVER.... I know that I'm saying the extreme but really, since the beginning of time people have had children. Now, I am eternally grateful for the times we live in, having access to the medical advances we do that allow us to live longer healthier lives... but there are a LOT of issues in our society (I'll preface this is a US rant only).

Children today are more spoiled and self-entitled than EVER. This isn't because being held = spoiled. In my opinion, it's because the "family unit" in the US is almost non-existent. People hear that DH and I eat dinner together every night and are shocked. We plan on having family dinner time every night with LO.... and NO TV during dinner. We want to talk, to have conversations with our son and to  be involved. Children nowadays have no fear because they rarely face reprucussions for their actions. 5 year olds have cell phones. They spend hours on the computer or in front of the television.

I don't sleep train my child and I won't. Not judging those who do, but for me, it just isn't right. My son often falls asleep while nursing. He also wakes up when I put him in his crib, and falls back asleep. At night, he will go back to sleep on his own... (or most nights) - but he is right next to my bed in case he doesn't. He doesn't manipulate me to be held... He's 4 months old. He doesn't know what that is. What he knows is that he's scared/wet/tired etc and mama or daddy can comfort him. We support his learning and development, but by doing it with him - not leaving him to do it himself.

No real point to this - Sometimes I just feel a little out of place because I don't read these theories. Couldn't tell you what baby led weaning was until it was brought up on the board. Don't know what the Ferber method is or Sleep Training officially. I'm just raising my son. I'm intelligent and doing a good job (I think). For every "theory" out there, another refutes it. I just think that it's good to be educated, but at the end of the day, people just need to be parents... it's been done for years without the internet.

    I whole heartedly agree.

  • I think every baby outfit looks better with shoes.
  • @laxminavkar and of course she looks super cute! I guess I'm just lazy, my outfits aren't even that coordinated.
  • I agree with all of these today! Including not celebrating Halloween and being annoyed with all the theories out there about parenting.

My UO is that I think if we had another depression like the Great Depression 90% of Americans would die simply because we are too dependent on stores for food and clothes.
Btw, I am part of the 90 because I have no clue how to sew and I can't keep a plant alive to save my life!

My DH says the same thing. He is convinced that our economy is going to completely tank and that we'll have to do everything for ourselves. He's a little cray.

I told him if the shit hits the fan then I will plant a garden and learn to sew until then, nope.

This is me! I can't sew (that's what my mom is for) and plants - Not at all! It's funny because last night DH found on ancestry.com that most of his side were farmers until a couple of generations ago and we were laughing about how we can't even keep a plant alive.

I do have an UO but I need it to also be flame free. Sigh here goes.

Maybe it's because I was born too late and only say him in his crazy period, but I don't really like Michael Jackson. There are a few songs I like but there are some I absolutely hate. I dread this time of year for the playing of Thriller on repeat....the song's lyrics don't make any sense! What is he even singing about ?!? Zombie love?!? An awesome undead dance party?!?

Lol, there's a children's department store called Cookies in NY. Idk if they're national though. I got them in every color, they were only four bucks.

Guess who's flying to NYC for a shopping trip then

Flame away but I really don't understand home births. They seem like a selfish way to put the lives of you and your baby at risk. ... You can still have a midwife/doula/med free birth in a hospital so why not?

I agree. I also had an uneventful pregnancy with a pretty intense birth.

And the people who argue that home births have been done for centuries? Look at the mortality rates.

Plus hospitals and birthing centers are designed to be hosed down after all the gross parts. My house is not.

Baby girl born 5/20/13. Figuring it out as we go. :)

I think it's nasty to give a baby a pacifier back after it fell on the floor. Even nastier, the 'mom wash' of sticking it in mom's mouth first.

If someone isn't willing to get down on their hands and knees and lick the floor, then they better not tell me I don't need to wash the pacifier.

  • I think mine is very unpopular based on what I've seen when the talk off solids is brought up but here goes... I have no intention of making my own baby food.
You stole mine! I really don't think I plan to either! it's such a short time that they are on purees, it seems like a lot of effort for a little bit of time! Like so many other things...maybe if I stayed at home....

I think debating politics is all but pointless. Neither side is going to convert the other and VERY often it just turns nasty. I don't get why people bother.

My great grandfather debated politics with his father via hand written letters. We still have some of them. It's amazing to read these well thought out arguments, and the respectful responses. We've lost so much of that in US politics and social media.
Unfortunately, IMO "well thought out arguments" have gone the way of hand written letters. It's a shame.

Of course there are some who can respectfully discuss the topic, but it's the exception rather than the rule to find one.
