Im 17weeks and 5 days pregnant and no kind of movement yet. Any one else?

ETA (from SgrRay929) Hi ladies! Hijacking this post from @mummy8 to make it sticky. If you're worried about not feeling your LO move, check out all of the great and reassuring responses below. This will be sticky for a while since everyone in Feb '14 is in different phases. I'm pretty sure you can make it un-sticky (for you) my clicking on the gear and dismissing the post.

Re: The Baby Movement (or Lack Thereof) Thread!

  • Ive just been so anxious to feel baby. That's all i can think about nowa days.
  • I'm a FTM, 19w3d & still nada. We had a gender reveal ultrasound and she didn't stop moving the entire time. Can't sit still just like her mama. ;)

Impatiently waiting for those first "flutters" yet not sure what to expect. Can someone please describe what I should be looking for?

Hey @SgrRay929, any chance we could get a sticky post about movement for the next few weeks? I'd be happy to write something.
I would appreciate this so I could go click on it every time I don't feel movement for a few days and start to question everything I know in this world to be true.
I feel you would do a great job writing something very simple, factual and reassuring. Vote!

  • I've had 2 sensations recently (like yesterday) and I think they might have been bean related activity.

Sensation 1 - was on my side and low. Felt like popcorn popping against a pillow, a muted tap, sort of like small bubbles bursting, but felt different than what I think a traditional gas bubble feels like.

Sensation 2 - is in the middle and low, and feeling it deep inside and mid-inside and it feels a bit like a gentle goldfish swimming or swishing or brushing up against my insides. Or like a dryer cycle on tumble, but so gentle and rolling and a feeling that goes in and out of my own awareness. Like it's there and then gone and then back and then gone.

  • I'm 20 weeks, 3 days and have felt nothing. It freaks me out sometimes but people keep telling me it takes time. Ugh.

It is normal to feel first movements any time between 16 and 25 weeks, FTMs typically feel it later than S+TMs. Also, baby's position, mother's physiology and placenta location will all factor into when you feel first movements.

Regarding what it feels like - to me, early movement feels like someone is poking or flicking me on the inside. And I only notice it late at night when I'm laying still in bed. Never during the day when I'm out/about. It's not until later that you should expect consist movement. At this point it's normal for days to go by between noticing anything and there's no cause for alarm.

  • I'm 20w5d FTM and still haven't felt anything either. I think I've felt that flutter feeling but not to sure yet. I'm sure we'll feel LO's soon!
  • 19 weeks and I haven't felt anything I've felt confident calling movement yet. I thought I felt a flicker last Sunday, but I half-think I imagined it, since I haven't noticed anything since. I second (third? fourth?) the motion for a "don't worry" sticky post we can all call on for reassurance in moments of doubt. :-)

See?! Maybe I didn't need a snickers that day! I understand being worried but come on! These are worse the the name ones! At least the name threads have a different name everytime.

OP I'm 21w, a STM and just feeling baby consistently.

  • Tomorrow ill be 20 weeks and nothing so far! I'm totally bummed! :(
  • I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and a STM, I should be feeling things sooner but I'm just now starting to feel some definite movement. Everytime we see him on the u/s he is facing my placenta and cuddled up to it, snuggling it like a pillow. That's why I don't feel his kicks. At least I know he is going to be a snuggle little baby.

  • 20 weeks and nothing! US tomorrow though so hopefully we'll see it's just the placenta absorbing all the kicks....fingers crossed
  • I just reached 19 on Monday and I'm somewhat sure I started feeling movement this weekend and even while I write this. It's like PP posted about it feeling like little pokes or popcorn gently popping one at a time.
  • Found out that the baby was doing the samba and being rather contrite about showing it's right foot for our ultrasound today. I can't feel much of anything because the placenta is anterior, but the kid is definitely moving all around. Even during the doppler for the heartrate, you could hear the 'whooosh' from all the movement. I will say that I now know why I'm using the bathroom so much, the baby is literally tap dancing on my bladder constantly.

  • 20 weeks 3 days and have been feeling sporadic "flutters" but nothing super distinguishable, usually in the am and a few hrs after lunch time. Never at night and nothing that screams kicks.
  • I didn't feel baby kick until 18 weeks. Now, approaching 20 weeks, baby hasn't stopped kicking. It's amazing and you will just Know when it happens. ;)
  • I was such a nervous nellie about not feeling my baby move! My friend swears over and over that she could feel kicks at 14 weeks, and here I was at 19 not feeling a damn thing but bloat. It scared the hell out of me! But then sure enough, the day before I hit 20 weeks, I was woken up at 5am by what felt like a hamster with boxing gloves in there. I just laid there frozen with astonishment for 20 minutes, enjoying every punch and boot!

Now I'm at 20 weeks and 5 days and have felt the little fella rolling around and dancing in the wee hours of the morning every day since. As the day goes on though, I always feel him less - I'm still dealing with a lot of bloat in the late afternoon and evening though, which hurts and it sucks, and I think that has something to do with it. Either that or he's just a morning person like his Momma!

My mom told me that she didn't feel a single twinge from my sister and I until closer to 24 weeks, and that every pregnancy and woman is so different, that we should all expect the unexpected! I've heard a lot of pregnancy books and resources criticized for freaking pregnant women out because they don't happen to fall into the extremely narrow range of 'normal' that they declare for this, that and the other thing. If only we could all take a deep breath and enjoy the ride more!
  • I can feel movement now and I think LO is a gymnast
  • I just hit 21 weeks and it has only been this week that I have really started noticing anything. To me it isn't so much flutters or gas bubbles, but almost feels like something rolling in my tummy.
  • I'm a STM-started feeling movements and kicks at 17w...I'm a skinny gal though so there's not much in the way of padding!
I didn't feel DS until week 23 or so.  I remember at the anatomy scan the tech kept asking me "didn't you feel that kick?" and I felt bad because I had not.

  • This is my 2nd so I knew what the flutters felt like, as opposed to just thinking my stomach was settling! I also felt baby kick way sooner this time around. First pregnancy, I had an anterior placenta so I didn't feel DD1 until 24 weeks. And then she NEVER.STOPPED. moving after that!

  • Had the most realistic pregnancy dream about this last night (probably because we were all talking about it on here). Woke up wondering if it as real but no such luck. :/ Really hope it happens soon because I'm starting to worry...

  • I'm a ftm and I felt my flutters at 13 weeks and now feel him roll and kick! DH can even feel it kick now and see it poke threw the skin and I'm only 19 weeks! Don't be discouraged though it depends on position of baby, uterus, placenta and your weight.
  • I felt flutters at about 16 weeks, than definite kicks about 1.5 weeks after that. My hubby has been able to feel her kick since about 19 weeks pretty consistently. I'm a FTM, but truly am finding every pregnancy is different as I have an anterior placenta and my OB seemed surprised I felt her so early. She seems to be extremely active ;)
  •  I just felt my first movement yesterday at 18w6d! It was amazing. I haven't felt anything today, though. I'm excited to be feeling regular movement.
