@henderson1026 That's true, but I think going out for sushi is still pretty popular due to the novelty of the event more than the flavor of the food, for certain individuals. Its like Hooters. Some people really go there for the food, more go for the overall experience.
Pho is the new sushi anyway. At least pho is delicious. ;-)

Parents that have backed over their own children are suing the government to put into effect a postponed regulation that all new vehicles come with back-up cameras. I think this is just a crutch for laziness and inattentiveness. One of the parents suing, backed over and killed his 2 year old son. Why was a 2 year old in the driveway? Where was the other caretaker of this child? And why didn't dad look around? I'm fine with an object alarm but a backup camera I am not.
Maybe more OCD than UO but I cannot leave my car if the windshield wipers are in any sort of upright position. I have to turn the car back on and run them until they are down before I can leave and go on with my life.

I do step into Hooters just for their wings, shrimp and of course cold beer.
I enjoy their wings too. :-) I edited original post because it was too blanket statementy. A valid criticism from Sol, I always go too generalized on UOs. I know a lot of others who enjoy hooters wings. Just trying to make an analogy.

If I knew you IRL I would pull your wiper blades up on your parked car every chance I had (and would never tell you it was me)

I like to believe I go to Hooters for their wings and beers, not to see the girls in little outfits with their tits hanging out. Thanks though!

alright, but I'm gonna be nit-picky and change the word "novelty" to ambiance - I think you would get your point across better with that edit.

In my area we actually had a police report where someone had gone through an entire parking lot and put all the windshield wipers in the upright/maintenance(?) position. It was...odd.

I think that lawsuit is ridiculous, but what do you have against back-up cameras? I have one and I lurrve it!

Um, people can sue the government for the effects of their own incompetence? It may be safe to have cameras or object detectors, but knowing where small children are is probably safer.
That said, accidents can happen and it would be great if all cars had those cameras. I just don't see the justification of a lawsuit.

@JenGivens I am the same way. It drives me crazy to see other peoples cars with the wipers up too.

Works for me. I have poor diction before breakfast.
I hate sushi. I have tried it. It's disgusting. I think a lot of people pretend to like it because it's trendy.
This is where the Midwesterner in me comes out, I am definitely a meat and potatoes kind of girl.
Honest question,do you think before you type? This is the second stupid blanket statement you have made in this thread. You have tried "it"? You realize there are dozens of different rolls right? And they all taste different, and have different ingredients?
And to add to that, you think an entire country eats it because its trendy. SMH
I said "a lot of people" not "all people". And sushi isn't trendy in Japan, it is probably their version of meat and potatoes (fish and rice). It is however, trendy in the US.
I know several people that enjoy going out for sushi just because of the atmosphere in the restaurants and the social scene.
I have tried a variety of rolls--baked, raw, sashimi, fried, etc. Nothing works for me.
I enjoy some sushi but not all - it is definitely not for everyone. But trendy? c'mon. If this was 1983, you could call it trendy, but sushi has been very popular in the US for at least 30 years now, therefore it is no longer a trend, but a classic. It has withstood the test of time and I would even venture to say become an important part of American food culture. Trendy it is not.
I normally cannot think of an unpopular opinion even though I know I hate a lot. I now have one.
I hate when people call things trendy. I must only eat sushi because it is trendy. "Cupcakes are so trendy." "Salted caramel is so trendy I am over it". Food cannot be trendy people, just delicious.
My UO is that I don't think they should give kids trophies just for participation. And I don't like the phrase "everyone is a winner."
Do your sentiments apply to all end-of-season momentos or just the things with golden people on top? What about discrete medals or plaques?
Mainly the ones with golden people on top. I know that end of season trophies are pretty automatic but I kind of wish they would make them specific to something great the child did during the season.. So like in baseball.. Most home runs, best field play, most improved, best teamwork... Then the child can associate specific performance to the trophy. But if the child is participating in a tournament of sorts with a clearly defined winner and loser, I do not believe every participant needs a trophy. Award top 3 if there are enough participants. In events like this I think each participant should receive a t-shirt or some sort of goodie at the beginning as a momento for participating in the event. That way everyone does go home with something. Wondering if that makes sense.
I love the smell of puppy breath. Let me clarify not dog breath. Puppy. My husband makes fun of me for it lol
**Guess this could have gone in TMI but oh well.
We always thought it smelled like hot dogs. Puppy breath=hot dog breath. Don't think I can say I love the smell though.
I wonder about the effectiveness of a backup camera versus an alarm. The camera is a passive system that requires people to actually look at it. When one is focusing on that screen how much awareness of the environment outside of the camera view is there? Look away from the screen for a few seconds to check side-view mirrors and something can run behind the vehicle. Another screen in the already tech-loaded new vehicles is another internal distraction when the focus should be outside the vehicle.
An alarm dings when something comes within usually 4 feet. I feel it forces the driver to check physically, and be responsible for their own vehicle. There is no screen to become overly reliant on.
However, technology can always fail. A quick walk-around and environment check is always a good thing. My neighbors have a 2 year old and no containment fence. They do have a 5 ft privacy fence right next to where I park. I always check to make sure the little girl hasn't crawled under my car, and reverse slowly, watching the fence side to make sure she doesn't escape her parents and run behind my car.

Eww so here's my UO I hate hooters wings!! They are not good and I have never gotten good service and that is disappointing.
@JenGivens I can't leave the wipers like that either. I also can't stand when they are going 110mph and its barely raining and all you can hear is squeeeaaakkk.. as they scrape across the windshield.

I agree but starting at a certain age. My son plays in a hockey league that gives everyone a trophy and/or medal at the end of the year tourney. He was 5. At that point everyone is SO happy to get that trophy. I think it encourages them and gives them a positive memory to associate with the experience. He was so proud of himself for getting a trophy. He believes he got it for being a good hockey player. Thats ok with me. I think when the sport becomes more serious and the kids develop a better understanding of winning, losing, etc. Then yeah, start being selective with the awards.
Pho is a traditional Vietnamese soup ( well known hangover cure) it is a clear broth, noodles and herbs, you can get it with or without various types of meat in it. I used to work with a lady chef who was Vietnamese she used to make it at work a lot...
@slusk13 pho is Vietnamese noodle soup. It can include steak, chicken or seafood, but the broth is the main star. I believe it's made from bone marrow. It is awesome on a cold day.
I love sushi! (and not just because it's "trendy")
My UO: If it is the day of the date on the milk I won't use it. I won't even smell it just in case it is sour because that smell makes me sick. Flame me if you want for wasting milk that may still be good, but I just can't bring myself to smell it or test it due to having to drink/eat cereal with sour milk when I was a kid.
If DH is home and he smells/tastes it and says it is okay I will still use it, but if I'm home alone it is getting tossed.
I think there are too many female teachers. I think the education system would benefit from more male teachers, especially in earlier grades. (This UO is specific to my location and experience, obviously-not sure if the imbalance is common).
To be clear, there's nothing wrong with female teachers. I love my son's teachers and many of my good friends are amazing teachers. I just feel that a better balance between men and women would benefit some children.

Same here! Even the day before is a little chancy.

@CourtJack, how do you feel about female teachers in the sciences and mathematics fields at a secondary level? Some people think there need to be more of those.

I totally agree. My last car had sensors which I appreciated, my new car has a back up camera and I hate it! I just don't trust it, it always seems like I'm way closer than what's on the screen. I don't even use it.

I agree with this. I'm a counselor in an elementary school and females far out number males, especially in the primary grades (K-3). Sadly, there just aren't as large a quantity of men certified to teach elementary children as there are women. I wish there were, I have worked with so many students who would benefit from having a male teacher for a variety of reasons.

In 2010 there were 10,228 people killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes 211 of which were children. The same year 66 children were killed in backover accidents (77 in frontover). If we're going to require backup cameras why not require ignition interlock breathalyzers as well?
