30-Somethings?

We've heard from the young moms, any other "old" moms out there? :)  I'm in my early 30s and this is my first pregnancy. I put off kids for the usual reasons, working on my career, graduate school, traveling etc. I've been getting the "your eggs are getting old" speech from my mom for about a decade now.. It got a little tiring, especially when we were TTC!

There's a cute spoof clip called "32 and Pregnant", worth a look if you're bored. :)

Re: 30-Somethings?

  • I'm 32--I don't feel "old". Most people I know are having kids at this age, so I don't feel like I've put off having kids. Most of my close friends are all single, so I'm the one paving the way as far as they're concerned.

  • I'm 30 and husband is 33. My sister is 39 and having her first. My mom was 36 when she had me and both Gma's were in their 40's when they had their last kids. So yes you can wait, and it can all be just fine!
  • I'm AMA. My Mom has also been on my case for years to get pg DH and I stuck to our plan and are happy to be doing this now.

I'm very healthy and active for my age and I feel ready for this where I wasn't several years ago, so I don't really feel old. I might feel differently when I meet all the younger moms at school one day, though!

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • I'm 35 and DH is 34 and this is our 1st.  We kept putting it off for our jobs but finally decided to give it a shot and I'm actually surprised it happened so quickly since I had heard so many speeches on how my fertility is dropping, it'll be so hard, etc.

  • I'm 32, and I don't feel old exactly, but I do feel tired. I have three kids already, all in school (and I'm a student also) so by the end of the day... I feel a whole lot older than 32!

  • I'm 31 DH is 30, but I'll be 32 when the babies are born.  I would have loved to start earlier, but it just wasn't meant to be.  It took us 3 years to get to this point and I'm just so thankful to be here.  I'm really looking forward to being a parent.

  • I'm 31 and definitely don't feel like an "old" mom, but would have liked to have had a baby a year or two ago, but I got married a little later then I wanted and my husband wasn't ready quite as soon as me. Plus, I've been having fun while still newlyweds :) I do think it depends on where you are from. I could be wrong, but some areas get married and have kids much younger.
None the less, I am ready now and am finally having a baby! So exciting!

@JennyLynne I'm a little jealous, most of my friends started pretty young. DH is also a few years younger than me so I'm usually the oldest at get togethers. I definitely don't feel old though, sometimes I still can't believe I have a husband, a mortgage and a baby on the way!
  • I'm 33, Dh 30. I've a 10 yr old, so I've done the "pregnant and younger" thing. This will be my first with DH and we're thrilled! I've been so worried about the approaching "advanced maternal age" catching up with me.

  • 34 in 2 weeks! Some days I feel old and some not s much. My tired days could just be pregnancy fatigue though... Lol
  • I'm 33 and this will be our first. We've been married for two years. We honestly thought it would take us longer to get pregnant. We had only been trying for two months. We are very lucky.
  • I am 32 but started TTC 2 years ago.

  • I'm 31, might be 32 when the baby comes depending on if it's early or on time as my birthday is May 10th and I'm due the 19th. My DH is 30 and will be 31 when the baby comes. We've only been married a year and together for 3 so it just took me that long to find the right guy, and then we wanted a year of marriage before trying. My sister is 33 and still looking for the right guy so we're both "later" in life compared to the rest of our family that has all had their kids in their 20's. Everyone up here gets married and has kids right out of high school so we'll definitely be the older parents at school functions and everything.
  • 34 with my 1st !
  • I'm 38 and sometimes I feel like the oldest woman on these boards. I'll be 39 when I deliver. And my DH is 47, so we're definitely old parents. We met when I was 33, and got married at 35. We waited a little while because of financial reasons. This is also the second marriage for both of us (no kids for either).

  • I'll be 30 in a few months, so I'm letting myself into the club. FTM. The only remotely close friend with a kid had an "oops baby" senior year of college. Other than that, our friends are just now starting to get married. I'm glad we waited until now, because I did not want to do the kid thing while my husband was active duty Navy. But my mom began perimenopause in her late 30s, so I didn't want to wait too, too long to at least get one out of the gate.

  • I'm 32 and DH is 33. Since we live in Manhattan, I would definitely consider myself as one of the average to younger age moms. Most of our friends and coworkers are still single or just getting married now so I feel like we are a little bit ahead of the curve. But when I go back home to Chicago, yea definitely behind the ball! All my friends have already had their first kid by 30.

  • I'm 30 and will be 31 when this baby is born! I don't feel like I'll be an old mom. I would say only about 1/4 of my friends are married with kids now...some are still single.

  • DH and I are both 33 (will be 34). We got married at 26. We had DS at 29 (well technically I was 28 for another month). I finished Grad school at 12 weeks pregnant. We began actively trying last July. It only took us the first month with DS. It was lucky #13. I don't feel I am that old having a second. In the perfect world they would have been closer in age than a kindergartener and a newborn. DH and his brother are 8.5 years apart. His Mom also had #2 at 34. I was born when my Mom was 35 and Dad was 33. I am the result of the 2nd born after the first/second marriage split (on my Moms side).

  • I'm 30 and DH is 33 - I think we're at a pretty good age to start having kids. My mom was 31 when she had me (I'll be 31 when baby is due) and she is either the same age or younger than most of my parents' friends. Anyway as far as our friends they're all over the map - some have kids, some either newly married or engaged, and some are single. We have been married for almost 7 years, traveled quite a bit, got our house, and always had something fun planned to do - so glad we had that time to ourselves but we're totally ready now for our little one. :)

  • I'm 36. This is my third baby and will likely be our last! I have an almost 4 year old and an almost 7 year old. I remember my first and second pregnancies like they were yesterday and usually love being pregnant. There are days though...! Hah. I work full time and am a craft aholic in my spare time.
  • I'm 30 and DH is 37. This will be our first. I'm hoping for one more but we'll see how it goes. It took us a little over a year to conceive and DH is worried that he's getting too old to be a good dad. I'm not sure he's interested in trying for another after this. We'll see!

We are over the moon excited about this little baby :)
