Trying to Get Pregnant

NTTGP: This board has changed me! What has it taught you?

So today I was speaking with someone at work today who told me that he and his wife are going through IVF. I was able to ask him somewhat relevant questions "What cycle are you on?" (3), "Frozen donor eggs or fresh?" (fresh) etc.

The real kicker though, was when he was talking about the transfer...

"So in a few days we'll have the transfer and then..." and he paused. A pained look crossed his face... he couldn't even say the words.
I just whispered "The two week wait..." The look he gave me was so mixed, but there was a relief there that I knew the term, that I'd heard of that terrible fortnight of waiting.
Before this site I'd never heard of it before. Before knowing and caring for you ladies I wouldn't have been able to engage in that conversation and provide him some modicum or fraction of understanding. People don't know about this stuff, and I can't imagine how lonely it must be. You are all great. And even though I won't start my own TTC journey for several months, you've all taught me so much that the whole way I approach conception has changed.

TL/DR: This site has taught me a lot. What has it taught you?

Re: NTTGP: This board has changed me! What has it taught you?

  • Taught me how to tell if I'm ovulating.
    Fucking bump!!!!

  • In my 18 long months I have learned quite a bit.

    The good: My body.

The bad: I can't count how many dear friends and passers by have experienced miscarriage. I had no idea it was so for lack of a better term "common".

The ugly: IF, no one ever thinks it will be them. But it can be anyone.

  • To temp. I can't believe I didn't do it before.

  • I learned that pregnancy isn't something that just happens like *poof* to everyone, but rather that pregnancy is a constant effort and even battle.
  • The best advice I got (besides that I should temp to determine ovulation) was if you are pregnant enough to have symptoms, you are far enough along to turn a test. It changed the way I look at the dreaded 2ww -- ps that description @wolfox was poetically haunting -- and made me stop being such an idiot about every twinge and ache.
  • It has taught me about the importance of BBT charting (along with OPKs), especially with irregular cycles like mine.  It also has taught me that many other women in the world are experiencing tough times and are longing for their BFPs and that getting pregnant doesn't always happen as easily as it seems it should.

I enjoy all the ladies on this board.  I enjoy the honesty, even if it hurts to hear at the time.  It keeps us all in check.

Oooh, yes.  This for me too!  It is something that is often just skipped past but it is important to remember when TTC because it's easy to pick up on everything little thing your body does.  The best way to get to know your body is probably by TTC...

  • I just effin love this board. If it hadn't been for this board for me over the past year I don't know where I would even be. This board helped me unravel my pelvic pain mystery since it started after starting TTC. GM told me where to find the Pelvic Pain Society. So there's that. Not to mention all the things everyone else has mentioned. I puffy heart you guys so bad.

  • I learned tons! from how exactly my body works, to how BSC it can drive you during the tww. That I am not alone, in any/every aspect of ttgp, someone else has been there. And lastly, you ladies are amazing, very supportive, and have great sense of humor and sarcasm that just tickles me from the insides!

P.s. I love bewbies too, and I'm not ashamed of admitting it anymore!!

  • This may be kind of controversial, but what I've learned here has made me a little bit angry.

I think about how powerful it can be to know what's going on in your body - when you ovulate, how your hormones are working, why you have different CM at different times, etc, why your desire can fluctuate throughout your cycle - and it makes me angry that women aren't taught this sort of thing as a default. I think it's really empowering to know what's going on in your own body and it makes me sad and mad that this knowledge is not more widespread. That the female body has to remain a mystery to so many women (and men), like it's something we should be ashamed of, and not know too much about. That's frustrating.

Anyway. Obviously everyone here is great also, puffy hearts, etc etc.

  • I've only been on here for a short time (this is my first cycle on here) but I have already learned so much.  My Dr. had told me to start using OPKs around CD 10 and when we get a positive sign to go at it.  After being on here, I have learned there is so much more I can do to take charge of learning my own body and fertility signs.  I am now temping and charting my CM (I had no idea what it was 2 weeks ago).
I have also learned that it doesn't come easily for everyone.  DH and I have been w/o BC for about 11 months now, we were covering up off and on in there for different reasons.  I was getting worried b/c I thought since we hadn't had a pregnancy possibility until last month there had to be something wrong with me.  (In that time I have had several family members and friends get pregnant who weren't even trying to.)  Just through lurking through the threads on here, you ladies have taught me that what my DH and I are going through is completely NORMAL and to CTFD about it and that it will happen when it happens.
I <3 this room so much and I am so glad I found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have learned that not every internet site is the same. For a long time I followed a certain site that was all raging babydust and pushing rainbows out each others asses. First impressions I liked it. After being on this board(and others on thebump) I find myself only checking the other to track some pals I had made. Now looking through other sites I find myself shaking my head at certain posts and can't help but want to reach through the screen of my phone and smack the "am I ktfu?!" posters lol. I have learned so much from you ladies. Learned about temping, checking cm/cp, realizing I am not the only person in the world who craves some kind of control over situations and am not as weird as I once thought for not being able to just "oops" get pregnant.
