No heartbeat at 7 weeks

I went for an ultrasound today and saw my little bean...the dr could not find the heartbeat. He told me not to lose hope and sent me for some blood work and another ultrasound in the radiology department. I'm not bleeding or cramping, I have off and on symptoms of extreme fatigue, sore breasts, and I am super fussy! I am trying very hard to stay positive and hope for the best...but I can't gel but feel a little heartbroken! Shouldn't a heartbeat be seen at 7 weeks?!?!??? I have a history of miscarriage and this is the furthest the little one and I have made it...I'm so unsure and confused! I want to stay optimistic bc of all the happy endings you read/hear about, that all hope was thought to be lost but then two days later a heartbeat shows up...but I also don't want to set myself up for further heartache!! So, this may be my early goodbye!

Hey hun. This is a horrible thing to be going through so i'm sending massive hugs your way. Like someone else said, is there any chance you're not as far on as you think? Did the sonographer take measurements, because if you're measuring small you may be a week or so behind. I saw a hb at 7wks 2d but i was also bang on with my dates with measurements. They didn't change my EDD. I have all my extremities crossed for you. Let us know how it goes.

My lmp was August 2...conceived sometime the week of the 11th...not sure if even ovulating late would make much of a difference. He did tell me to not lose hope, but I also saw the color in his face drain when he couldn't see the hb! He expected to see it at 7 weeks and so did i! Another us on Thursday... So now I wait in limbo!

I'm not ready to say goodbye to this little one yet!

I know it sounds like i'm just clutching at straws here, but remember sperm can live in the body for up to 5 days. It's perfectly feasible that you ovulated late. Just stay positive.

I agree with awc1986. Being off by even a few days can make a difference. If you are at the beginning of 6 weeks instead of 7 weeks then it would be completely possible to not see a heartbeat and have everything be okay.

My LMP was aug 1, only a day off from yours, and when I went to my first appt they dated me a week earlier then I thought I was. He said I must have ovulated late. I am only 6w5d today, instead of the 7w5d I thought I was! Fingers crossed that your date is a little off and you see a heartbeat soon!

@amandalynn1243 - thank you! That gives me a tiny bit of hope! Last time I miscarried, I had no doubt...the moment it began to happen (bleeding) I knew in my gut that it was over. I am having a harder time believing that it is over this time around...maybe I am in denial...maybe I am clinging to any kind of hope...but part of me says no way is this over, and the other part of me says to accept it as a loss bc it will prob turn out that way anyway and to begin processing now and not get my hopes up. It is such an emotionally toying time! :-/

I would give it time and always get a second opinion before making any decisions! I had a doctor tell me I had an abnormal pregnancy ... Two days later I got a second opinion and it turns out the other doctor had me dated farther along than I actually was... And they saw a itty bitty fetal pole with a strong heartbeat. I know not everyone gets the "happily ever after" but don't lose hope just yet and please get a second opinion!!

Don't lose hope yet! I was a few days off too (didn't see the heartbeat the first time- actually we didn't see ANYTHING but the sac) and sure enough, at the follow-up 5 days later, we saw the little peanut and heard the heartbeat! Don't lose faith yet!

Don't lose hope! I tracked my lmp and I know exactly when I ovulated. However, when I went in for my first US, I thought I was 6 weeks and would be able to see a heartbeat. Come to find out I was only 5 weeks. My doctor explained that it can take up to 6 days for the egg to actually be fertilized! I went back a week later and we saw the heartbeat.

With DD, my doctor had trouble finding the heartbeat after 9 weeks. It was there, but he had to get someone else to come and help to locate it.

A friend of mine is 13 weeks and she just told me a similar story that had happened to her today.

My dr told me this time not to bother coming back until I was 10 weeks because it is so hard to find a heartbeat before then.

My last period was on the 5 and I thought J Ovulated on the 21st. But my numbers don't seem to be there. Its possible your wrong unless your extremely good at charting and who knows, right? I would wait it out. Don't lose hope yet! GL and sending so many T and P's to you.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!! Got my hormone levels back from today and they came it at around 37000...granted, Thursdays levels will tell the tale! The more time that goes by the more I feel like my little bean is in there thriving, just maybe a little slower than expected. I have found a lot of encouragement through all of your stories and kind words!! Praying for all of you for healthy pregnancies! So weird how much comfort one can find from a group of strangers! Thank you all so much! Hopefully I can stick around for a while!

Like others have said, maybe you weren't as far along as you thought. With my first, I thought I was 8 1/2 weeks along based on my LMP and I measured 2 weeks behind! Hoping for better news on your next ultrasound.

I just had mine at 6w5d, and the u/s tech said (before she was able to find our hb) that sometimes it's too early to pick it up. It took her a minute to zoom in on it, and it wasn't super loud, but she did find it.

When is your follow-up us? Is going to another doctor in a week or two an option if your f/u isn't soon?

Also the ultrasound they have in the ob office are not great! I had one that they couldn't even tell for sure where my ute way! It could be poor equipment, radiology has the fancy ones! T&p for a hb!

@jered&gena - my dr said that his equipment is ancient! For my first ultrasound, he said "hurry up and look at your baby before my machine shuts off". It is pretty rickety! Hoping for a clearer picture (one way or another) on Thursday! How on earth am I going to make it until then?!?

I woke up today feeling horrible. I've never felt such emotional pain. I feel empty and sad and I can't go more than two minutes without breaking down and crying, I'm pretty sure I woke up crying. I haven't had a lot of symptoms, but today I just don't feel pregnant. I feel like all hope is lost and I don't even know for sure yet. But I feel like my body knows and is telling my heart to begin the grieving process. Pregnancy hormones suck!! Either way...I just want to know so that I can move on! I've never felt this crazy before!

I had an ultrasound just under 2 weeks ago, thinking I was 7 weeks, and she said that she couldn't rule out pregnancy under 5 weeks, at that point I thought it was over, thought my bean had stopped growing, had my follow up yesterday, and the sac had grown 5 mm, and there was a baby inside! And a heartbeat which she couldn't find doing the u/s on my belly. There is hope! I felt like that waitin for my next one, thinking it would be bad news, had a m/c a few months ago, she dated me yesterday as 5 weeks 4 days which is alot earlier than we expected,

Had my ultrasound today. I am measuring 6w5d instead of 7w6d, so about a week behind. Saw my little bean again, and everything looked great, just no heartbeat yet!! The tech said not to worry bc it is still so tiny and that just bc it hasn't been detected doesn't mean that anything is wrong, and that maybe the position is causing it to not be visible. I was also informed that i have a introverted uterus, which I've never been told before. She was lovely and kind and compassionate and encouraging. She confirmed that all looked well, cervix is closed, yolk sac, fetal pole and amniotic something were all looking good. So hopefully my little bean just needs some time to grow. Dr appt tomorrow morning. Not out just yet!!
