I know this is a late introduction but i just discovered The Bump and have spent the past week lurking around. Finally decided to step in and say hi, so HI! I am a 28 year old FTM, due on 7th Jan'14 from New Delhi, India and very excited to be here! My husband and I are both dentists running a private practice in Delhi.
I realise that the time difference between India and USA will make it difficult for me but I am going to try and participate as actively as I can. Although the healthcare systems of our countries are very different but pregnant women are the same everywhere! A couple of things that have made me jealous of you guys are 1) Your medical insurance - ours does not cover ANY expense during pregnancy. We pay for all our OB/GYN visits, ultrasounds, hospital stay, delivery etc.
2) If you wish to, you can find out the sex of your LO. Sex determination is ILLEGAL in India!
Looking forward to interacting with everyone here. So happy to be here :-)
P.S.- Please excuse my spelling/grammatical errors. I try hard but English is not my first language!

Region wise I am from North India- parents were born in Punjab and moved to Delhi. Religion wise you could say I am Hindu. Dont visit the temple or pray etc but we do celebrate our festivals and got married according to Hindu Sanatan Dharma..
Will be happy to answer any questions you have! And yes, Indian weddings are so much fun! We had a blast at ours. Three days of singing, dancing and partying!!

Thank you for the welcome! The book question is a tough one though.. A must read according to me is City of Djinns by William Dalrymple-simple language and captures the essence of India. Kim by Rudyard Kipling is a classic and a personal favorite. A Million Mutinies Now by V.S.Naipul is another great book but quite factual and can get boring!
Shantaram and Eat.Pray.Love are "popular" but i wouldnt recommend them if you really want to know and learn more about India.. Hope you enjoy these books.. Happy to help!
I remember going to Delhi to get my teeth cleaned as a child too. Moved back to the states where I am from in the 90's. I would so love to go back and being my husband and this LO. I can not get enough of the culture. My favorite part of India was Goa
Can't wait to get to know you better!
Woodstock wow! We have a branch of our dental clinic in Mussoorrie and treat Woodstock kids all the time. I have visited your school and it just blew my mind! I wish I could afford to send my kid there..
Goa is really the best. We try and go there every year! Next trip shall be with LO in tow hopefully
P.s.- That mehendi must have taken some patient sitting by you! My wedding mehendi took almost three hours to apply and I was soo impatient through it..
We are having a girl and my family back in India are so excited. They couldn't care less what's the gender and the word is spreading.
