Do you talk to baby?

I rarely, if ever, speak directly to this child. I think a lot of things for her and tell her things in my head, but not out loud - it just feels weird to me.

How about you? Do you talk, play music or anything else fir this baby? How do you interact

Re: Do you talk to baby?

  • DH and I both talk to her lol
  • Loading the player...
  • Hubby and I read to him at least eveyother night :)
  • I can't say that I do, it feels odd to me. I do "think" things that I am telling him a lot but haven't talked to him aloud. Like @MarBee1214 said, DH and I talk alot about the baby and in reference to him and I figure he probably can't distinguish between us talking to someone else or directly to him anyways.

  • Occasionally I'll talk to the baby, not conversations though, just a comment here and there. DH puts his head on my belly every night when I go to bed and talks to LO and says goodnight. He likes to feel/hear baby move and hopefully baby will recognize his voice when s/he arrives :)

  • I talk a lot due to my job and with DH, so I am guessing she hears enough of me!

  • I definitely do, and I sing too. But I'm a little strange. I talk and sing to my dog too lol

  • I don't really talk to directly to the baby either, I figure he/she will get used to our voices from hearing us talk to each other. I tend to just sing a lot (like when I'm in the shower or doing housework) so it's kind of like I'm singing to the baby haha.

  • We don't really talk to the baby but we chat enough between us so same-same. He/she is hearing our voices which is "apparently" the main thing. DH has spoken to the bump a few times but for the most part we're just the same. Quite often I'll make stuff up like "honey, the baby doesn't like that song" or "baby's hungry and really wants Mexican tonight". He clearly knows its all me but it makes him laugh and brings Lo into it a bit more.
  • I sing but I don't talk (yet).

My husband and I read, sing, and talk to the baby at night time. If you ever find me alone I might be talking to the baby.
  • I rub and pat my belly and chat to her when she's thumping and bumping.

  • I feel like a total goober talking to my belly.  My hubby and I talk amongst ourselves about him all the time, so I feel like he's hearing mine and his voice plenty.  Even my daughter will come around and rub my belly and say hi to her baking brother.

  • I also rub my belly when she's kicking around and talk to her a little bit. She naturally gets read to every night since DS and I spend 15-20 minutes a night reading, but I don't deliberately read to just her.

  • I have purchased baby books and when I'm having ones of those reflective kind of days I will read the book out loud to the baby (and yes, I feel really weird doing it but I figure since I have the time I might as well try to bond with the baby).

But talking to the baby still feels foreign to me. I will only do it if I am home alone (so DH doesn't think I have totally gone off the deep end), and when baby is kicking and I just kind of narrate like so, 'hey babes, daddy will be home soon. we are making spaghetti for dinner" etc.

my friend's daughter has a baby girl with such a calm temperament and she credits talking to the baby while in utero for the reason why her baby behaves the way she does.
meh, not sure if I 100% to agree...

  • It feels weird to me so its a lot of telepathic talking lol. Thinking things and just saying the baby gas mibd reading powers so he knows what I'm staying lol
  • I spent about 5 hours in the car by myself yesterday and definitely found myself talking to the baby! A lot of times it starts as, "Whoops, sorry about that traffic-related F-bomb, little guy!"

  • Nope, not really. DH has read a few books to my bump but mostly we just figure talking to each other and to DS will make LO aware of what are voices sound like.

  • I'll talk to her whenever she starts having a dance party :). And DS loves to come over and pat me, say 'baby sister' and give her kisses. Melts my heart :D

  • I rub my belly constantly and will say little things, like "Oh, good morning baby!" when he was kicking me after I woke up.

Same! Some random stranger asked if I listen to music on my walk home for the baby or something weird... And I say I'm in constant chatter and commotion all day so I think babe enjoys the serenity of a quiet walk home as much as me... Pretty sure this kid already knows mommy talks too much.

  • Guess I never thought about it. But yeah usually I say "Whoa good one!" referring to a great kick. But other than that no really.

Like the others I do talk to the baby in my head.

  • I talk to him, but I usually keep it short lol. It's hard since he can't talk back or anything yet. I do sing to him in the car while driving, and hubby talks to him every now and then. We just want him to know our voices-- which he will whether we talk directly to him or not. But it's fun either way :)

  • I talk to her when I feel her moving around. My boyfriend likes to talk and sing to my bump.

  • I am used to talk to my belly since I got pregnant.
Since we found out it is a girl, every morning when she moves I tell her "good morning daughter" (but I do it in Portuguese "Bom dia filha!"), during the day if I eat something that she starts jumping around I ask her "did you like it? Yeah I know! I did too!" (also all in Portuguese)... when I am in her room I tell her what I am doing, that her room is getting super cute, that she has a lot of cute clothes,... I talk to her a lot!
She jumps when DH talk's to her =)

I guess she is tired of my voice (I am a phone operator, I talk all day long!)... so when he talks, it is his voice she responds... I love it! It is cute!

  • I definitely talk to this baby. My boys now tell the baby good night :D It is so cute, they put their faces right up to my belly and talk loud (not quite yelling).

I talk to the baby in the car (hour drive to and from work every day) and at night, but not during work or in front of people other than family. This LO has found a position that must be comfortable, but is bad for me, so I will bounce my belly and tell the baby to move. I also sing to the baby.

When I was further along with my others, I would definitely poke them awake, bounce my belly, basically tease the baby. DH would join in on the fun, and say "Just you wait! This is to prep you for your older brothers!"
