Snark is easy to misinterpret too. I got called out for being snarky in a reply the other day when I was not in any way being snarky.
And the mod doesn't have to answer every thread. If they're annoyed by repeats, they can ignore them. That's what I tend to do, especially when I'm not in a great mood, lol.

i would even take it a step further and say a mod really SHOULDN'T be commenting all over most threads... the point is for a mod to swoop in when actually necessary (again - terms of service violations.... not squashing the meanieheads or breaking up a fight) via the batcall of the abuse or spam flags. those buttons should be seen as "hey mod, come in here! someone's not playing by the rules!" and nothing else. not "hey mod, someone's being rude" or "hey mod, i don't like what is being said". terms of service violations only.
someone said in the thread i posted a few weeks ago about electing a mod that the individual(s) chosen should be in that perfect intersection of readily available, but not necessarily very enmeshed in the board. i thought that was very wise. we need someone(s) who has a finger on the pulse of the board without being involved in every little thing for better or for worse. i think there's definitely some merit to the mod having a bit of stoic separation from the dirty daily grind.
Do we feel like we have a solid list of nominations, or do we want to keep this thread going for another day or two before having an official poll?
Should we have those nominated officially accept their nomination as well so we know they'd actually like to take the position? It would be a shame to go through and vote to have someone turn it down.
Another quick question - when doing a "poll" on here, are you able to vote more than once? Or will we just take the top two?

thank you! to be clear, though, i am not interested in the job. i'll bust out the pompoms for whoever is elected, but the bump-elect will definitely not be me
Thank you for the nominations ladies but I'm going to pull myself out of this one. I think I'm too far engulfed in the "plastics" (who are we?!?! I really want to know <-- see this is why) to be effective. I think along with having someone who typically stays somewhat neutral that we have someone who wants to do it. I don't feel like it's going to be an exciting job (especially with this board!) and if someone wants it I think we should vote on them >-

Absolutely agreed. Of course that's not to say that the ladies nominated or chosen couldn't post right? Because I think a lot of them are known and appreciated for their frequent posts and I would hate for them to pull back because they are in a mod role.
And I second most of those nominees. Are we getting a poll set up to do the actual voting?
I think they can and should post as often as they want. Becoming a mod doesn't require you to turn into a dirty lurker
They should keep doing as they were before.

i say we keep this post open (and all do our part to bump it up throughout the day if it gets lost in the shuffle) so others can see it and add their comments over the next 1-2 days. but hey, that's just me
someone on page 2 asked about whether or not the polls could accommodate a multiple selection option (i.e. you could vote for 3 of the 7 nominees) and i don't think that's possible. the problem is... i don't think i'd want to just narrow down my vote to a single person. i feel confident a LOT of women who have been spoken of in this thread could do a great job. i have a feeling we'd get a more accurate headcount if we could find a way to vote for as many people as we wanted.
to keep it within the bump (rather that creating some third party polling device) we might need to just create a separate voting thread and page one of the mods from a different board to make it sticky (and maybe lock all new comments??) for a few days. we could list each nominee in a new response by herself, and votes could be tallied by the number of love its for that single person's name.
i'm just thinking out loud. it's far from a perfect solution, but it's the best i can come up with as a starting point.
I would love for @spasticfantastic to be a mod. I would also like to nominate @CalinAZ. And lastly, is anyone else sad that SeattleMomma is no longer around? I think she would've made a great mod! And I'm not saying that is the only reason that I'm sad she's not around, not even close. But she really would have done a great job I think.

I could make a google form that would let you pick as many people as you wanted. Y'all would have to trust me to be official vote counter, though.
This definitely needs to stay open for at least a couple of days. Not everyone is on all the time.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
@spasticfantastic this may be what you're talking about but if we had a specific thread for voting and it was sticky then whoever creates it can post 5-10 (however many mod nominations there are) new threads, each one containing one name and then we could use the "love it" button instead of a poll? But then it wouldn't be anonymous. Or could we just make 2 or 3 separate polls? Can you add more than one CP to a thread? Ahh too many questions. Could we just create 2-3 different threads, sticky them all and then label them "Vote 1" "Vote 2" and "Vote 3" and encourage people to vote for someone different in all 3?

@jap618, your first few sentences are describing what i was trying to describe too. but the anonymity factor goes out the window, you're right...
if we wanted to keep it truly anonymous, the only way to do that via the bump would be to make a new clicky poll post PER person... so if we had 8 nominees, that would get reeeealllyy overwhelming but if we could make it sticky for a few obnoxious days, that might be a better option. i'm interested to see how others feel. i'd be fine either way!
ETA: if we really wanted to get all highschoolerish about it, we could even make the clicky polls have a "vote of no confidence" option so we could discern if anyone had a contingent of people who would be truly unhappy with that particular mod choice. if we go based on number of fans alone, it might not reveal if someone has made some enemies (poor choice of word) along the way.
While it gives me an interesting read during my nursing sessions, I feel bad that April 2014 has to put up with the biggest psychopath I have ever seen on the bump.
Ok so as for my nomination, thanks guys btw let me chew on it for a bit ok? I have been on the bump for a long while but I need to make sure I have the time to dedicate. I'm going to go chat up one of the mods I "know." Cheers
