Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Name popularity...

Did you chose a popular name for your baby? (Regardless of the reason you chose it) Is it one of the top 10-20 names on the SS Index site?

Re: Name popularity...

  • nope... DH named DD after our favorite constellation.

  • no way - "trendy" names were NMS

  • we chose Connor which is trendy-ish but not on the top 10 list...
Little Dude - Connor Michael 6/8/09
Angel Face - Mya Brynn 12/9/11

  • Benjamin is top 25, but not top 10.

  • We know a lot of Zacharys but no babys named Zachary. On different lists his name is way higher, but on that list he's 47.

  • DD's name is 56 for 2008.

  • Nope!

  • Sure isn't. We were going to name him Elijah, but it was number 15 in Canada, so we picked Moses instead. It's number 495 :)

  • Nope, #551 in 2008. DD#1 has never been in the top 1000.
  • #7 here woot! I couldn't care less about the popularity of the name. I fell in love with the name Sophia after I met this beautiful little girl that was just the sweetest thing ever. I told myself that if I ever had a girl, I would name her Sophia and I did. What's popular and what isn't has no bearing on my decisions which is why you'll often find me in clogs lmao
  • No way!! I've only known one other Shaelagh in my whole life!!
  • Nope..we actually liked Jacob a lot until we realized it was #1.  (we still like it, but didn't want a baby with that common of a name)  We also like Alexander, which is on the top 10 list!

  • No but their names have been getting more popular.

I wanted Lucia for DD but DH vetoed it.  Gianna was my second choice.  I still love it, though.

  • Ryan...it's number 18 for 2008.  As popular as it is, it's not as popular as a lot of names I hear around here like Aiden.
  • Maxwell was named for my Grandpa, whose name was John, but four others already have that name. Maxwell's Silver Hammer was my grandpa's favorite Beatles song, and I am in love with the Beatles, so it worked out perfectly.

Max has been a pretty popular name with celebs, but I didn't choose it for that reason.

  • We didn't want a super trendy name, so we're happy DS's name sits at 143 for 2008

  • nope. Adelyn was #588 in 2008. More popular than I thought actually.
  • Yup - #1 and #2...Jacob Michael
  • Nope...she's not even in the top 1000 (for the past 9 years!). Like mother, like daughter! :)
  • Yep. Number 8. Abigail we just thought it was beautiful.
  • Nope.  Although for one DS Luke is semi-popular...we didnt know that when we picked it.
  • No, it was 829 last year.  It was important to use to have a name with history, traditional spelling that wasn't popular.  Matilda definitely fit the bill.  Anyone would know how to spell it and pronounce it.
  • DD is Natalie, and the year she was born ('07), her name was #17.

DS is Lukas, and in '08 his name was #245.  I've seen it in the top ten on another baby name site, though.

And, we decided on their names because they were names we liked.  Popularity isn't important, but neither is being really different.

  • Logan is number 19. ?I didn't realize it was that popular of a name until after he was born. ?Oh well. ?We probably still would have chosen it because we like the name and we had a hard time with boys names because our last name is so long we wanted a short first name.

  • I think Lily is on the top 20, but her name is Liliana and NM is Lily Big Smile
  • Ethan is up there which had nothing to do with why we chose it.  It must be making a comeback because neither I nor DH knew any "Ethans" growing up.

  • It's not on that list, but I've seen a lot of lists where Noah is included (as high as #4).  We chose it because it was DH's grandfather's Hebrew name and he passed away a little over a year ago...I'm a little disappointed that it's so popular.
  • DS's name is in the top 10. DD # 1, when she was born, wasn't even in the top 100. Still isn't. DD # 2 isn't in top 100. I really wanted less common names for my kids. That's what I get for letting DH name his son. Stick out tongue
  • Nope. #762. Campbell is my grandmother's maiden name.
  • Nope. Julia is actually #40 for 2008. That kinda surprises me, wouldn't have thought it would be that high. Doesn't really matter to me either way though.

  • Brooks isn't on any lists that I have seen.  While I LOVE some of the popular names, popularity was a deterrent for us (it helped us narrow to say, nope- too popular)
    EDD with #4  01-20-14
    Proud mama to a boys-  6/17/09 - a girl 2/23/11- and a boy 8/20/12

  • Both of our girls have popular first and middle names and it was on purpose because of research we have seen about choosing names.

DD#1 - Kaitlyn is now 53 but was 33 in the year she was born. Middle name Abigail was 18 in the year she was born and 8 now.

DD#2 0 Addison was 12 and Marie while not very high for a first name is one of the most popular middle names.

  • Dh picked Kellan out of a book - he loved the meaning - little companion.  It was 882 in 2007  We are not popular name kinda people, although I really do like Graeson, Nolan, and Caden.

  • Harper isn't in the top 10 or 20, but I was reading an article recently (Parents magazine, I think?) where they asked Laura Wattenberg (the author of the "Baby Names Wizard" book & blog) what she thought the top 10 boys & girls names would be in 2019 and she had Harper in the top ten per her prediction. So it could potentially be popular several years from now.

It has been jumping up the top 1000 the past few years (went from 400 and something in 2007 to 200 and something last year).

  • no!  We did pick a popular boy name and gave it to our daughter!!  Her name is Evan Laila!!

  • i did not. ivy has been in the 300s and 400s for the last ten years.

  • My 3 month old foster daughters name is Ava. Number 5 last year but have rarely heard it. If we are lucky enough to be her forever family I my change it to Caroline which I have always loved.
  • Lol this thread was from 4 years ago
