  • The flame worthy part of my morning- I sent Ds to school with out breakfast today. I was running around like a mad woman trying to pack lunches, shower, and get my kids ready that I forgot to tell my ILs (who were bringing him to school) to make him breakfast. I feel like shit! But I realized my mistake at 1030 and they eat lunch at 11, so I didn't bother driving over to give him a banana or anything. Poor Ds

My FFFC: My kids look well groomed and put together majority of the time.

I look like shit at work most days. No make up. Hair not done. But hey, my kids look good.

This is me. Except DD1's hair has been a hot mess for the last month. She was badly in need of a touch-up (she gets Keratin straightening treatments) and I just didn't have the money. I was planning to suck it up and take her this weekend before school starts, but fortunately my parents offered to pay for it and my dad just took her to the salon this morning.

  • Since others are posting sex FFFC I'll join in. When I ovulate I have the drive of a teenage boy. I had two different sex sessions yesterday and today I'm back to shifting uncomfortably in my chair at work. In college this wasn't a problem with all the space between classes but this is difficult to manage with a FT job and a baby.

You CANNOT post any more pictures of hot guys today. At least not until 4 when its close to quitting time.

Would these symptoms be like this if there weren't cats in your house?  Like are there enough environmental factors involved that the presence of the cats is not really responsible for this?

    @nymama1

Also, even if you get rid of the cats their dander will be in your house for awhile.

    Would allergy shots help him?

That's hard. Rehoming tip (if it comes to it): winter is better. It's still kitten season now.

@hilarityensued I am not sure and that is what I struggle with.  I am waiting it out to see if his eczema gets better with the season change.  If it does then it is not only the cats and I can breath a huge sigh of relief and keep our family intact.  If it stays the same or gets worse through the fall and winter we will have to go back for more allergy testing and have some more discussions with the allergist.

We actually don't have a ton of fabric surfaces.  We don't let DS in our bed because the cats sleep there during the day.  We have zero carpeting in the house and couch covers and curtains that are easily washed.  We do this to try to keep dander to a minimum.  Allergy shots is one of the options to discuss with the allergist.  I don't think he likes to start them this young though.  I don't plan on even considering rehoming until we get more answers and have exhausted all other options but I hate the guilt I feel every day when I look at my son and see all the eczema.
  • I feel like an asshole today. Last night SO and I got into a discussion on why I am really miserable where we live. I started crying I was so upset and he got really upset that he never realized exactly why I hate this town so much. He said he felt like shit not understanding this before and feels he let me down. Dammit,I didn't want him to feel guilty,I just needed him to understand. He looked sad still this morning and I have been weepy all fucking morning. Bleh,I guess my confession is I feel like I handled it badly.

  • I want to rehome my animals.
We have four cats. I want to rehome 3 of them. They are all older. One of them isn't a people person and my daughter loves to terrorize him. (Terrorize=chasing him into the basement and shutting the door on him.) I think that cat would do better in a house with an old lady.

The other two are just annoying---really really annoying. Reese doesn't even't like them that much. As soon as she sits down to play they come over and lay on her toys. She gets so mad!

One of them she absolutely loves--and luckily this cat is loving the attention Reese gives her. Reese was trying to play catch with her this morning.

Reese is allergic to them too--but they are all old, overweight and I know realistically I wouldn't be able to find a home for them. Unfortunately when they were younger we ignored a lot of their "undesirable behaviors" and now we can't train them. So there they stay.

The truth is the truth and you can't sugar coat it or hide it because you want to protect someone else's feelings, especially in a marriage, and double especially when it concerns an issue like being completely miserable where you live.
I know. I have just been trying to find a way to be ok with it and I guess I held how I feel in too long and it just exploded. Which is on me.

  • I mean I don't know how hard the call is really.  He is allergic to cats and a freaking battery of medicine and treatments is only scratching the surface at what would be considered "controlling" it.  If getting rid of the cats would even give him a modicum of relief then I can't really understand why it's such a far off consideration.  Getting impetigo and having to take antibiotics multiple times in a short span would point directly to "this situation is not at all controlled".

I just don't get it at all.
The cats are part of our family too.  We have had them for 9 years.  Yes my son comes first, but the cats may not be the only problem it could be other environmental factors.  I honestly would feel awful if I gave our cats away and then the eczema continued despite getting rid of them.  I know that it would be difficult to find good homes for them and the thought of that makes me sick to my stomach.  For me it is not an easy decision.
  • @NYMama1

This is our situation too. Honestly I think if I could even get it down to 1 cat instead of 4 it will help her allergies. Her eczema has been fairly bad this summer too--but I think it is a big environmental part as well. I know for a fact chlorine aggravates it. And the grass. And trees.

I hate vacuuming the cat hair every day. Luckily our cats aren't allowed upstairs--so they don't get into our room or her room.

She does fairly well on zyrtec. We have an appointment in November--we see where she is with that. She would be devastated if Pumpkin left---as soon as we come home she finds pumpkin to tell her about her day. She was trying to play catch with her this morning. The others could go--and she would never notice. But finding 4 homes for a 11, 12, 13, and 15 year old cat--not the easiest thing.

WTF? Get gloves or something woman!

Gloves wont help you when you have an aversion.  Its not to touching its seeing, smelling, etc.

I can't even open the cabinet the bread is in without heaving and shaking and spending thirty minutes in the bathroom.

It's the biggest trigger I have right now. That and pasta, but mostly bread.

I had to go in that cabinet last week and honestly felt like I would pass out. HG sucks. I can't control it and wish I could.

    But feeding your kid
    though...

Promise he's not going hungry mbenny.

He's typically doing lots of fresh fruits and veggies for snack and he gets that whenever he wants. Lunch and dinner is often leftovers, or fresh when I can handle cooking.

    Breakfast is cereal, so easy.

But if I can't leave the bathroom to approach the food that's setting me off, how can I make it for him?

Oh, my bad @RondackHiker - I forgot you had the MS and stuff. I didn't even really notice the SN until you said you can't leave the bathroom.

    I am sorry.

It's okay! We're surviving. We'll make it. Luckily he doesn't ask for sandwiches very often. Stupid bread. DS isn't picky, thank god, so leftovers and lots of fresh fruits and veggies work well for him.

And luckily DH has enough time off to do the grocery shopping for me weekly. That place is deadly.

  • Exhausting all possibilities before rehoming the pets is the best decision for their family.  The pets are a part of their family.

I've been where NYMama is and the idea of getting rid of a long-standing member of your family can tear your heart out.  Trying to downplay that or make it simple (which is exactly what you're doing, hilarity) isn't cool.

We had a similar (non anaphylaxis) situation with MIL when DS1 was 2.5. She decided his allergies were because we weren't exposing him to them and gave him ice cream while DH and I were out of the room. He projectile vomited all over and we immediately left when FIL told us that she had given it to him. She has never and will never babysit our kids because DS1 and DS3 have various allergies and SNs and we can't trust her to care for them properly.
  • I get that my decision is a flameful one.  It would honestly be flameful to people either way.  Some would think I am heartless because I am considering getting rid of my cats others will think I am being an irresponsible parent by not getting rid of my cats right away while my son deals with repeated skin infections potentially caused by the cat allergy.  It is ok for people to have a stron reaction to that and I can see why people would.

Also, rehoming pets is only not cool when people go all "I have a baby now so the dog must leave". We had someone on my corgi board do that and I ripped them a new asshole.
