  • My UO: I'm not really fond of "Girl's Nights"... I feel like I never have 100% fun because half of me is missing the whole time. I understand them in "theory" but why feel the need to go out carousing around with a group of girl's at night, why do you need this??? To "let off steam" or "do things you normally wouldn't do if your hubby wasn't around??"  I just think a shopping day and lunch will suffice...and if you wanna get crazy with your ladies.. ...Do it at home, with their spouse/SO, where you are safe, and I think it's a whole lot more fun.

edit: I feel if you feel the need to act a different way in front of your hubby, you have other problems.
If we have a "girls night," I act the same way as I would if my H were there, but most of the time our husbands don't want to talk about all the girly things we talk about and catch up on!
See I get that...Just around these parts (where I live)...it's just an excuse for everyone to go out and get sloppy drunk...and I do not like it.  I end up babysitting grown women (the one time I went out with a group about a year ago). I understand, dinner and a drink "girl's nights" with your 1 or 2 best friends.  But I'm talking about FULL ON big groups of girl's.  How do you even have conversation.

Edit: I act the same also...I'm just talking from what I've seen as what others consider "Girl's Nights"...
My friends and I have girls nights, but it's nothing like that.  We don't get drunk or act stupid or anything.  We just like time together, away from the spouses.  Not because we don't want to be with them... I love to be with my H.  It's just more of a bonding thing with my girlfriends. Mostly talking about things the guys wouldn't wanna sit around and talk about.  And they're my best friends, so we like to stay connected.  We usually do dinner and one drink, that's all :)

Its worse with birds because they get attached to their owners and qhen passed through owners they begin to get stressed and will pluck or become aggressive and bitey.
    I 10000% agree.
I agree with this as well. I love my pets and I'm terrified that my children will have animal allergies. I can't imagine living without a pet in the house.
    Agreed.
How about my BF just got rid of their two 5 month old kittens because she just didn't like them. They were the most laid back, nicest kittens ever. They didn't scratch and ruin things, or get into anything. Her children adore them, and her H did too. She called me last weekend to babysit her almost 4 year old daughter so that she could have some lady come pick them up and take them. Her excuse for dumping them off was that "I just don't like that you can only pet with them on their time, they're boring and not worth having around." I bit my tongue and didn't say anything because it would have been a huge argument.

Karma bit her in the ass fast though because the woman came an hour early to get the kittens before BF could drop her DD off at my house. DD confronted her mom saying "Why are you doing this to these perfect kitties?" So she had to tell her the truth instead of lying to her like she was going to do.  Her LO is the smartest, most funny little 4yo I've ever met. Totally my idol.
DH and I have two cats and two dogs. We have decided that we're not really cat people and will never get cats again. However, we love the two we have because they are part of our family and would never give them up. Also, I have never heard of kittens being described as boring. They are anything but.

My uncle got a beagle puppy a couple of years ago because he always had them growing up and he thought they were a great family dog. He ended up hating it because he didn't want to train it and he kept it locked in the basement. He would complain that if you gave it a little bit of attention it only wants more. They gave it up. Then a year later they got a tiny toy dog that they don't feel the need to train because it's so small. The whole thing disgusts me.

I try to ignore the random vague posts, but I have had friend check in at the ER with no update. Yes, the ER. Really? So I'm not suppose to wonder why you're there?
  • Ok, let me rephrase....Where I live, a "girl's night" is somewhat similar to a bachelorette party...(which is why I do not like "Girl's Nights" here) Now, I LOVE when my best friend and I have dinner, shop, talk...drink wine.. I just call it spending time with my friend... but I guess it is a Girl's Night.  So I guess it's not such an UO after all!
Yeah, we call that girls night 'round here. I wouldn't like it if it were like how you originally explained, either.

I find that far from being unpopular. I did have a co-worker who had to give up his cats because he had a son and his son had severe allergies. I took that cat in and love him to death. I also recently adopted a cat that was left behind by his family because he moved. It made me so angry that I just had to adopt him and he's wonderful. I guess im jaded since I work in the pet industry. I see way to many people bring in animals they no longer want because they got it for their child and the child isnt interested anymore. Theres someone who lives by me who gets cats as kittens and declaws them ect then when they are no longer cute they throw them out onto the street. It makes me so mad!

That was make me mad too! Growing up, I had a lot of neighbors that treated their pets like that. My Mom and I use to have at least 10-15 cats outside that we would feed every day. It was like a little cat haven. When we moved, we took them to no kill shelters.

This makes me so sad. Beagles ARE great family dogs, but they need tons of love and attention. They are pack animals, too, so if you don't have multiple Beagles, be prepared to have your Beagle make you park of his pack--i.e., he will want to be with his people all the time!

Oh believe me, I know. DH and I adopted a beagle and we believe collie mix. She very much has the beagle personality. She is a pain but we love her and love her devotion to the pack. Once we adopted her I understood his whole they only want more attention thing but we are slowly training her to be less needy. He just didn't want to take the time to train the dog because he only remembered beagles from being a kid and didn't realize how much work went into them. My whole family judged him.

I LOVE wine, but like @cramcakes said about beer, it is an acquired taste.  You've got to start out with the super fruity wines that taste like grape juice (moscato) and then work your way to other kinds from there!
True story: I also hate grape juice.
True story:  Me too.  I used to ask my mom to drink it for me when I was little and we had the Lord's Supper at church.  Do you know how weird it is to be 7 and have your mom tell you that you have to down the little shot of grape juice because it's symbolic of Christ's blood that He shed for you?

I started out with Moscato, then a Red Moscato which is sweet but not overly sweet. Now I'm into Pinots....mmm....wine. Drinking at work is okay right?

    Mine will be unpopular then.

I think that there are good reasons to rehome a pet and that many times it ends up in the best interests of the owners and the pets. Sometimes finding a place that accepts pets (especially if you have a larger dog) is damn near impossible without paying an ungodly amount, but most of the time it's not even an option. If we had to sell our house and rent, we would have to rehome our dog. No place here will rent to someone with a Rott.

Or would you prefer we live in a van down by the river?

Now I think there are special circumstances to rehoming a pet. Rehoming them because you really have no other options is one thing, but doing it because the animal is boring or needs attention? That's where I draw the line.
There are definitely special circumstances in regards to finding a new home for your pet. So my co-worker who had to find a new home for his cats is completely a valid reason. My issue is with people who rehome just because they don't want the pet anymore. In my case of adopting the cat who was left behind, the prior family didn't even take him to a shelter. They put him outside and a neighbor else brought him in.

Well this is a pretty crappy over generalization. Did it ever occur to you that sometimes there's just something in an animal's genetic makeup that causes aggressive behavior? We've had our yellow lab since she was 9 weeks old. We did not abuse or ignore her. We exposed her to our families and other people as much as we could and took good care of her. Around 8 or 9 months old she began exhibiting aggressive behavior. We tried everything. Took her to a trainer, had a different trainer who specializes in behavior problems come to our house and worked with her hard core. Nothing really helped. She's almost 4 years old now and can't be around anyone that she hasn't known since she was very young, or else she will go berserk. She's never bitten anyone, but I honestly don't think that's out of the realm of possibility. We can't even have people over at our house unless we close her into our guest room, or take her to my IL's. We can't go away on vacation unless my IL's will be home to watch her, because kenneling her is out of the question. We do love her, but she's a royal pain sometimes and I would be very hesitant to get a dog again.

  • @IronEgg I love leggings! If I'm comfortable, I don't care what other people think!

@DarcyHermione I totally agree. I think DH would too! We're always like "oh let's just get up a little early tomorrow instead" and the alarm will go off in the morning and we both look at each other and roll back over.

My UO - I'm not a big fan of the show Friends.

I think shorts should be longer than your vagina.
    K thanks bye.
Whatever happened to the finger-tip length rule?? I remember not being able to leave the house if my shorts were higher than my fingertips!

  • I am not sure if it is my city or everywhere but there is a fast food employee strike happening today. They are striking to make more money, in some cases as much as $15 an hour. IMO I think this is ridiculous. Yes, I agree work and getting paid $7 an hour is difficult to live on, however, if you want a better paying job you have to work for it to earn it. If they raise that wage how will you justify a person just out of college in an entry level job of a company making $15???

Along those lines my OU:   I think everyone should match their couches to their pets.  Black couches, black pets.  Light couches mean light colored pets.  No house should have light and dark colored pets at once.
What if all your pets aren't the same color? Why should my pet dictate my furniture color?
That's why you plan ahead and only get pets/furniture that fit your dark or light scheme. This way the pet hair doesn't show up as much.  If you have a black and white dog you can't wear white pants or black pants without hair everywhere.

    Lint roller??

We had a red leather couch (I hated it, but it was hand-me-down furniture) with a blk/wht/brown dog, a grey cat & a blk/wht/brown cat. When that couch died, we bought a grey one, but that had nothing to do with the pets. They usually sit on a blanket on there anyway. I vacuum the hair off the couch once a week, it's really nbd.

Ha, I have my master's and I wish I was making $15/hour. What entry level job is paying $15 for a bachelors and where can I sign up?

ETA: Just did the math...$15/hour isn't that high for an entry level. I'm just grossly underpaid.

I don't get the Starbucks obsession. Overpriced coffee yayyyyyyyy!!!!!
    Plus it tastes gross.
I'm obsessed with their Green tea latte

I've not tried it, maybe I would have better luck with the products that aren't coffee based. I just don't like their coffee- it often tastes burnt and too strong, or something.

Everyone keeps saying what a flop Applause is but I want you all to think about which song will be less annoying in three months. Especially when the Olympics start and Roar is ear-fucking you every 15 minutes.

I'm confused. You think Applause is less awesome than Roar? Or did you mean it Applause > Roar?
